In all fairness, it was not "in the middle of the street." We all walk in that space when walking to get into our parked cars. Look at the bad driver, driving over the line and probably even nicked the parked car. I see this sometimes in Mexico. People sometimes walking in the street as if they aren't even aware that cars use them. Also, sometimes when I see people crossing a semi busy street they seem to walk nonchalantly without looking at oncoming traffic.
