7 years... you must be pretty good. I'm sorry I can't help... I learned the piece by working out the bass notes and trial and error. (And I don't have it 100% anyway). It's simpler than it sounds though, you should have a go.
Ahh this is awesome! I was trying to find a video of someone covering 'bye' and yours is the only one i could find... beautiful/eerie song... love it!
Yes, I worked out bass notes for the left hand first, as the left hand is really just a leading note and then a chord. Then got what seemed to be the right hand (it's not 100% corrct) by playing snippets of the tune over and over.
I love that you described this is being played an a crap instrument, by an incompetent person, and even threw in the "YouTube covers are stupid" sign, yet this is completely amazing. I want to figure out how to play it, did you just learn it by ear? I haven't had time to yet. Love the song so much though, you play it perfectly! Although as previously noted, a bit fast. :) Lovely!!!
Thanks for saying this, it was really nice of you. For the record, I think you're twice the pianist I am, and I really enjoyed your tune "Crossing". You have a great voice too.
It's a good thought, I can't criticise it since it's really rather obvious and I had the same one myself.
So, let's start with the obvious answer... attention seeking. Also experimentation, but mainly the attention seeking. It's a minor ego boost having people compliment you.
And - unless there's no version available by the original artist, or unless you're doing something radically different with the song (which I'm, not) I still reckon youtube covers are stupid. I might be wrong though.

if youtube covers are stupid then why did you take the time to
a.) do the cover
and
b.) post it on youtube
just a thought.

I actually agree - plus, I played it too fast. But what the hell. Youtube covers are stupid anyway.

This one of my favourite Elliott pieces, it's very haunting, as cheesy as that word is. You did a fantastic job with it.
