This lady is just amazing - her voice and power are fabulous. Unfortunately the rest of this is awful. The chorus is just terrible, and what's with the child? She's not supposed to touch him at all. Where do these directors come from and who gives them money, I ask you.
1) Is it possible to get this on DVD? 2) Can you upoload it in a higher resolution or it is not possible to compress? It is so beautiful I want to get the best. She gave her soul away in this clip.
She is exceptional as a stage singer and actress, yes.
The chorus is beyond shameful.
The stage directions specify that she does NOT touch the little boy, who is supposed to take 3 steps towards her as Angelica dies. He can be interpreted to represent her own dead son or the Christ child.
This finale must be the most overwhelmingly emotional in the entire operatic repertoire.
Soviero is untouchable here...She sang Traviata, Manon Lescaut amd others while I was a chorister at Florida Grand..She's always been one of my favorites!
She did this in Dallas and I was in the orchestra. I cried like a baby at every performance. One of the greatest musical things I ever did.. Thank you so much for posting.
Diana was such a committed artist. I was fortuntate to have seen her in Tosca and Madama Butterfly. Wonderful! I had the honor of meeting her on a couple of occassions and she was gracious and lovely. Love you Diana! Grazie per il gran dono dell'opera! E
I have to confess that I have never seen this scene; at least not through dry eyes. Every time I watch Soviero in this I end up looking at the scene through a cloud of tears. Damn it!
Singing and dramatic commitment like no one I've ever seen or heard. My greatest musical regret is never seeing Soviero live. As it is, the video is unbearable. When the child enters and falls into his mother's arms, I come completely apart. I've heard some good ones--Stratas, Scotto, Frittoli, most recently Radvanofsky--but Soviero flays me from the inside.
Don't forget Puccinies score is also the star of this opera. The dramatic cresendo the moment she drinks the poison my God. I do wonder about the motivation of some of the directors when they tell them to pull the wimmple off.

order online the cetera studio recording with Rosana Carteri. It is the best Suor Angelica ever. Maybe it's on youtube it's simply the best.
