first off lots of respect to your builds. I watched your old GC8 vids in the past when I was looking to swap an RS (decided to hold off on that project so I could buy a new DD). this car is just disgustingly fast now.
question for you though do you sacrifice driveability or is your car as good in the bends as well? because Im looking at RWD track cars and vettes can be had at good prices. a nice blower looks like a lot of fun but I wouldnt want to sacrifice the cars handling. let me know!
@AlexanderBlueAvenue Well its got MASSIVE Road Race tires (265 up front, 305 on the back), a low center of gravity, 50/50 weight distribution, and it weights about 200lbs less than my Subaru STI did, so yeah, it can definitely take a corner. It is not as forgiving to drive though; the car has much higher limits, but things can go very badly if you lose it taking a 1.2G coner. More power, more speed, more driving skill required.
@sambarros You should up the Tires sizes. Our Vet has 275 front and 335 rear. So much grip. However im sure yours feels better because of the weight reduction.
Wow...I have the same LS2 in my car. Only thing that gets me nervous is that it has the 05 rear. So your saying that if you added the meth to your old setup you would have been fine. ...nothing wrong with having a bulletproof motor though. I have been watching your buid...congrats on the completion. I dont drive nearly as hard as you do....so I think my motor would last a pretty long time. I would hope :)
@rundatrack Well, more boost and Meth. The fact that I have a ZR-1 cam and the valvetrain to handle it doesn't hurt as well; you can see on the video that I can shift at over 7100RPM... But, yeah, even a stock LS2 can handle this power level.
@rundatrack Not really... The biggest difference, by far, is that with the methanol injection the car doesn't feel dramatically slower on very hot days. Other than that I can tell it is quicker up top but it is nothing crazy. I was pretty happy with it before; I'd have been OK with leaving it as it were I think.
@sambarros If your still on the stock block then meth is highly recommended for longevity. The stock cast pistons don't take kindly to the high IAT's that you experience with a s/c on hot days. I've seen stock blocks with 700rwhp w/meth lasting longer than stock blocks at 580rwhp w/out meth. My stock block lasted 17,000 miles at 725rwhp with meth on the stock short block and I drove it hard, 100's of runs to +200mph.
@tarik916 Only have one: I ran an 11.2 @ 134MPH with a 2.0x 60' and got booted for not having a cage. It was the first and only time I ran the new setup on the strip.
@sambarros Nice trap and not bad for your only run. I plan to get my new LS7 build to the track soon. I will start out with 1/8 miles and get on the breaks or coast through 1/4 until I am ready for a good time and the boot. Then back to autocross and road racing. Keep the vids coming.
