I notice a lot of these really good effects are hit by dislikes. So to all who dislike, understand that this is really good for amateur. I think it looks awesome. Thumps up!
@Rikotistic Thanks for the post. This was done when I was still a student at the Dave School. I was still learning at the time. You should see my work on Drive Angry and The Mechanic.
Shooting in 3D can take up to 3 times as long. The studios are not willing to wait that long and rather pay the conversion process. Transformers 3D started shooting in 3D, but it was so painstaking that Bay decided to continue shooting in 2D in order to meet deadline. As much as Cameron likes to say that conversion is more expensive than shooting in 3D, it ends up costing around the same, only difference is that you can get it out for release faster if converted.
Conversion will never look as good as shot in 3D, but conversion is the only alternative for movies that were not shot in 3D. As to how good that conversion looks is up to the studio doing the conversion and the producers. I worked on Gulliver's Travels. The conversion was horrid on that due to the studio and their way of doing things. I also worked on Green Lantern and the conversion for this came out great. The studio had a good pipeline setup and they didn't over work us.
Once again thanks for the comments. Please keep in mind that this was done in 2008 when I was still in school. The main assignment was the light saber effects.
If you guys want to see what I've been working on since I graduated, check out my IMDB page:
Thanks for the advise. It was just a class assignment and we were given the material to work with. All the background images had it and the main task was the light saber effects, not worrying about the copyrights on the background. But thanks.
Thanks for the comments. I'm a Fusion and Nuke compositor. I prefer the node system over the layer system of After Effects. ILM uses Nuke for compositing now, so it's a good thing to be familiar with like compositors.
6 vs 6 im the chosen one!

We wrapped on it in December. Phantom Menace gets released in 3D in February 2012. We start working on Episode II in August.

LOL!! Not rude at all. Just wondering if you were just kidding or if you really don't think I worked on the stereo conversion of Star Wars Episode I?

Nice video! You could work on the lightsaber effects. Use Adobe after effects
