  • i love this song but it always gives me the shivers

  • absolute classic, thank you

  • A brilliant ballad and moving tribute to 29 brave men. Only Gordon Lightfoot could have written and performed this tribute. Truly awesome.

  • I ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG ....

  • Gordon Lightfoot is mystical, pure folk and hip far beyone the early 70's. My dad used to play him back when we were children while firing up a mean ass BBQ. I am now 37 and even though my dad is still alive, I live far away in California from him and my mom right now and these songs give me tears, because nothing lasts forever. Back when my dad graduated, they took a trip to Canada and saw Gordon perform live before he made it big! Thanks for the video legomaster335!

  • one of the greatest songs of all time, thanks for sharing!

  • @robman200 my memories allow me to laugh now,but also remember being scared shitless the night I had my expeience.I feel pretty sad now wondering what went through the crews minds that night

  • This song brings tears 2 my eyes everytime I hear it!

  • Love this song. Thanks for posting.

  • I've spent half my life in Michigan (the other half in Nebraska lol) I never knew about this, until about 5 min ago...

  • seriously???!!! instead of listening and paying tribute to these men who tragically lost their lives, you quarrel and bicker over facts. Instead of acting like kindergarden children trying to impress one another, try to show courtesy to these guys and either drop it or leave.

  • GREAT SONG!!! THANK'S!!!

  • My grandfather was the propellor.

  • Michigan<3 Its not candian song, its michigan, hisotry

  • a masterpiece

  • over 2 football fields long. that's just sick.

  • Amazing! I will pay tribute to those who died on the Fitz when I drive up to Duluth, Minnesota!

  • Still makes you think. And can still bring tears to your eyes and pain to your heart.

  • Thirty six years ago today. Funny how time gets by.

  • @KodyBoy555

  • THE SONG IS A GREAT TRIBUTE , TO A HORRIBLE TRAGEDY, I'M SURE THE FAMILIES APPRECIATE ,THE DEDICATION.

  • IN ONE VERSE!

'' The story lives on, how the boat - she went down,

and the people all died.... bummer....''

  • THE BRILLIANT AND HAUNTING TRIBUTE TO ALL SEAFARES WORLDWIDE THIS SONG AND LYRICS COMPOND A GREAT ENERGY

  • WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG!!

  • tim hawkins condensed this song into one verse. search 'tim hawkins songs for add'

  • Man this song still gives me goosebumps and chills.

  • Thank you for this Fantastic Song! I saw a special program on PBS? regarding the tragedy of The Edmund Fitzgerald several years ago.

  • Who was Edmund Fitzgerald, anyway? The owner?

  • @davidrodgersNJ The name of the ship>

  • @davidrodgersNJ The ship was named after the President and CEO of the company that owned the ship. His grandfather had been a lake boat captain.

  • @davidrodgersNJ There is a thing called the interwebz. You use something called a computer to access this interwebz. Ask someone what Google is, and when they are done wiping your ass, tell them to do a "search" on "Edmund Fitzgerald" maybe they will need to read it to you. Oh, I'm sorry to interrupt your Harvard grant curing AIDS. My Bad

  • thank you guys for the many views and comments :)

  • @legomaster335 Your welcome, Thank you for sharing.

  • @legomaster335 you're welcome, & as one with family still in Canada this song always moves me...

  • @legomaster335 timeless never forgotten to all lost at sea god rest ur souls

  • I have the original recording somewhere (???) and I have it on CD also and I am always amazed at how good the mix was for being analog and 1974, the reverb on every microphone is perfect for the mood of this song. Listen to the vocals mic, the snare drum mic especially and the lead guitar. And even though there are only 5 chords in the whole song, it is not at all redundant and I could easily listen over and over.

  • @chefjimmie1 1976 not 74

  • @dergrossen EF was lost in Nov 75

  • @dergrossen Ooops. You're right. Everything I said still applies, just read it like it was 2 years later.

  • 'twas the witch of november come stealin'

  • Up till this day, ppl still don’t get it.

Dislike buttons pressed on good song actually weren’t for the song itself.

Mostly on how the song uploaded; I seldom hit the button though, I’d just move on search for another clip.

  • @inogi339 Thanks for explaining how everyone on the internet uses dislike buttons. Also, thank you for clearing up that there's no possible way that someone could dislike a youtube video because they don't like the song.

  • @Spunjo1221 Is Sarcasm and misinterpretation you specialty?

Have I mentioned everyone or on all videos?

Don’t border to reply……Put you in ignore.

  • End it @6.25 would be good.

But this is the best I could find.

    Thanks!

  • love this song. ty for posting ^^

  • love this song

  • thish should be on rockband for g hero lol...

anyway good song kinda sad =( ive been to a tribute recreation of it before

  • The other reason I connect with this song is that the same storm system that took the Fitz to the bottom killed my dad a week later - he had a heart attack shovelling the snow that set of storms dropped on Minnesota at the same time it was blowing up gales on Superior.

  • wow, 20,000 views :D

  • gordon knows history! i love how he tells the tale of the men who died with pride doing what they knew ,and loved..

  • best ship wreck song of all time.

  • 2 people suck ass

  • and the gales of November are remembered...Timeless classic by Mr Lightfoot!

  • everynight my mother and father would play this song on their stereo in the living room, full blast, my room at the end of the house I would fall asleep to it every single night. The song frightened me of the lost souls who all dissapeared on that ship that night, I knew that at a very young age, still scared. 17 years later at age 20 I listen to this song and cry for them all, and know what I know about this history, growing up with it in my life, and taking it to the grave with me.

  • as a kid growing up in northern Michigan,I remember this song had quite a following among the people,I miss it.

  • @trinkline My roommate's daughter went scuba-diving with her class in Superior a few years back. They found a shipwreck. Superior's covered in them.

  • @arisblaze That;'s because the lake is so deep and so cold. More than 1500 feet in places, and it never gets much over 55-60 degrees fahrenheit in the summer. I spent many an August on the Canadian shore half way between Thunder Bay and Sault St Marie freezing my future manhood swimming in Gitchigumi.

  • @ryoushii wow, guess you're not much farther north than me, maybe an hour or so? Don't think I've been as far as Sault St Marie but Fort Frances was a bit hectic when I went through there last. I live about an hour inland from Duluth, so I'm quite familar with Superior's whims. We feel her effects most spectularly in the late autumn months.

The actual depth of the lake I forgot however- lol

  • try edmund fitzgerald porter. goes great with this song

  • this vid is 1 year old :D:D:D

  • @JeffPhilly420 agreed.

  • thanks for the comments and views guys :)

  • I went to the Shipwreck museum and heard this song and immediatly fell in love with it. This is a awesome tribute. Two thumbs up!

  • @Neoko1koga It is, especially after you see the memorial.

  • This song is legend!

  • This is how history should be taught; the way it was taught for thousands of years, in family circles. Where have the bards gone?

  • Grew up with this song...hated it when I was a kid. Now I appreciate it and LISTEN to every note, every word and get goosebumps. I love Gordon Lightfoot now and love my Dad even more for playing his music back then and patiently knowing I'd come around. Love you Dad and can't help but think of you every time I hear Mr. Lightfoot's music. xo

  • i like how most of my views are from guys over 30 or even 50.that makes the song better to listen to from some people who were born when she was still sailing the waters

  • @legomaster335 My uncle was the chief engineer on her shortly before she sank. My aunt refered to her as the eddy fitz. Thanks for the upload. She shouldn`t be forgotten.

  • @legomaster335

I'm 52. I remember this like it was yesterday.

Many people think only the open sea will sink ships, but not the Great Lakes.

    Sadly, this is not true......

    Thanks for making this video.

    MadMark
