I was there. This video didn't catch it but before the the foam rubber sword guy had just beaten like 400 foam rubber blaster gun guys. I mean it was crazy, the foam rubber blaster dudes just COULD NOT hit the foam rubber sword guy! No matter what they did the foam rubber sword guy was untouchable! He even was able to knock back some of the imaginary blaster fire with his foam rubber sword and manager to kill some of the foam rubber blaster dudes! It was incredible.

loosing range is how you get KILLED when using a pole weapon, being able to still use effective combat technique in a close range is essential to not getting your shit kicked. especially important when the opponent uses a two handed sword, meaning he will immediately advance beyond your effective range as he hasnt a shield to protect him.

@idontwanttotalkabout = I was about to say... use the grip near the end of the staff for maximizing the staff's superior reach to gain the advantage instead of using the grip in the middle style which gives you maneuverability but loses out in range. Against an edged weapon, you would want to get some distance to protect yourself.

@AngelBiLove @DeusPango @FIREFOX274 The wood they use too make a staff is "tempered" meaning it is much denser then that of normal wood and therefore hard too cut even with modern day carpentry tools...you really cant compare the two. the sword is a sharp weapon that is relatively small making it more maneuverable and better against unarmored opponents. the staff has a longer range and is a blunt weapon giving it the ability to jar the enemies armor and allowing you to avoid incoming attacks.
