  • I've known the pianist for BBNG since grade 6 and the man has always been into jazz ever since i can remember. Glad to see him getting recognized.

  • Your humor in this video was awesome. I've had a very rough day, thank you for the laughs.

  • Hello,

    Nice work with your posts.

As a former music director for a canadian college radio station, I understand and appreciate the time commitment necessary for your reviews.

    Keep up the hard work.

    Take care,

    JC - Inca_foot

  • Subscribed. Good stuff.

  • BBNG should be renamed GGNB (Good Good Not Bad)

  • They arethe Shittt!!

  • One of my favorite bands ever now.

  • DAMN! AWESOME!

  • I loved this album and I don't mean to be a yes man but I agreed with and basically felt the same about almost everything you said about it. Great review Great album I'm so glad I got it and I can't wait for BBNG to put out more stuff.

  • I'm so glad to have discovered your thoughtful reviews. Great takes on this album, and I look forward to hearing more. I am surprised, though, that you didn't mention The Bad Plus even in passing, as they are another (preceding) great "bad" jazz trio who gained notoriety with their translations of other genres but who are arguably at their greatest when jamming on their originals.

  • giant steps is really good....

  • when i downloaded this and saw that they did zelda songs i freaked! plus they did song of storms my favorite zelda song.

  • Why is standard in quotation marks?

  • its great but i cant download it anywhere :( can anyone help me out?

  • @MrFitz219 listen to 8:40

  • @bigwrench01 ohhhh, thanks lol fail

  • Man I just love good music, why aren't theses guys big, i'm spreading the word around about these guys!

  • i dont get it....salmonella listeriosis???

  • You're definitely one of my favourite reviewers.

  • (-: loved your review. love bbng. love jazz, & loved how you backed everything up. totally agreed w/ your review. nicely done. cheers.

  • Thank for giving my ears this lovely stuff

  • 4:20 great impression lmao

  • "but i think that musicians on some level have to have that attitude, or else they're not gonna propel themselves passed what influences them" i fucking love you

  • this one was hip as shit. best album i've heard in a while.

  • my favorite song on this album is Fall In Love

  • does youtube pay you? because i would pay you... if i had a lot of money... and a website that made it so you can post videos so others can watch them

  • They sound futuristic. I think this might be the next step in music.

  • Giant Steps is more complex than this stuff, even at 50 years old. If you don't appreciate the masters, you won't make original music. It's not rehashing. Adding new genres and melding them with the harmonic language of Jazz isn't new either, people have been doing it for years, just that you guys don't look hard enough and consider this the innovation.

All that being said, these guys are alright, but if you want authentic stuff that's covering new ground, there's better

  • NOYORK!! YO

  • lol, he probobly earned 5 bucks by using that youtube cup XD

  • tremendous respect for bbng.. i fucking love jazz and and my love for it originated from 90's hip hop.. and now to hear bbng jazzify hiphop, it's amazing.. the drummer is a fucking boss

  • Check my profile page, I need an album review!

    CHRIS GR3EN

  • to each his own i guess...i love jazz, hiphop (i love music actually) but those covers ain't gonna affect my life the way this coltrane's record did (and still does) i used to think that i was tired of listening to the same old things, that i needed fresh new stuff (i found some but not dozens of albums either) but i always end up goin back to old stuff cause when it's that strong, it's for life...about jazz influence in hiphop, let's face it: instrumental music is more likely to be sampled ;)

  • thanks for this review, Anthony. I love this album, and only discovered it because of this review.

  • Thanks Anthony, I really enjoyed this review (as well as many others)! You're completely right about jazz music's generational shift. I'd really like to see a lot more music like BBNG come out soon.

  • SOmebody would need to collab with these guys

  • @huamanJR Tyler the Creator already has.

  • @Hockeyevan9992 on what song?

  • @huamanJR Tyler's song "Seven", they just put the video up yesterday, search it on here.

  • @Hockeyevan9992 what, but its not new though. That's like a longggg time ago from the Bastard Mixtape. But thank you though btw.

  • @huamanJR No, the song itself is old, but him and the guys in the band actually performed it live like a week ago when Tyler was in Toronto, that's the first time they actually collabed in person. Look it up.

  • @Hockeyevan9992 alright I'll take but either way the new one still has the same beat. its just Live that's the only difference.

  • @huamanJR So what? It sounds awesome, and they really throw a jazzy-vibe into the beat. And they recorded "Fish" too, but they haven't uploaded that one yet. They're more than likely gonna work together when Tyler wants to do his whole fusion-jazz album.

  • @Hockeyevan9992 I'm not saying its bad, its just I wished they switched up the beat that's all if they are doing a collab with them. If they do collab for a album then I'll be looking forward to it =)

  • @huamanJR They actually just uploaded the "FISH" jam session, with Tyler on the piano. Check it out, probably more what you were looking for.

  • Hot and heavy climaxes? Say no more. I'm in.

  • @lynxeyedlykos lmfao

  • @lynxeyedlykos hahahahahahahaha i was gonna write the same thing!!!

  • Nujabes - Modal Soul

  • @JoyceJennings OMG i love Nujabes! one of the best jazz/beat producers ever :))

  • @JoyceJennings R.I.P. :(

  • M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

  • why cant i find any of these songs on youtube lol?

  • @SmurfOntheRocks dude, related videos on the right. they're all there.

  • @ricerice566 i saw those right after i posted that

    derped really hard

  • Thank you for bringing up that quote about Giant Steps. I was a bit upset by that when I heard it.

  • Im addicted to badbadnotgood now is there any similar artists?

  • @CurlyPepe Check out The Bad Plus

  • My friend put me onto BBNG today and I'm in love with them. Nice review too.

Have you thought about reviewing Astronautalis' 'This is Our Science'? It came out recently and did well for its modest means - #9 in Hip Hop iTunes charts on its week of release. I'm not sure where it places at now.

  • this is the only album i have been listening too

  • For those who like this LP they may want to look into Moon Germs - Joe Farrell.

I discovered this album just after they had their debut show (wish I had known about it earlier, I was in Toronto that day.) Some of the best new jazz I have heard yet, I will be keeping my eye on them.

  • This is the best thing I've heard all year. Works equally well as background music as it does an intimate headphone experience. Listening to the Zelda track while walking through the woods near my house alone provided a joyous childlike feeling.

  • I think Anthony Fantano is a pretty cool guy. eh reviews music and doesn't afraid of anything.

  • Didn't realize The Legend of Zelda was hip-hop inspired.

  • Loved it, absolutely loved it. They fooled me at that zelda tribute song... Didn't realize it was zelda at first, because it was at the end of the track and I was already pretty blown away by how well these guys had played off these other songs. Can't wait for more original stuff from them though

  • Majora's Mask seem more your style though Anthony.

  • I wanted to come back and say after I found out about them here.....I have listened to them way to much....thanks :).

  • Lol nice swag in the beginning of the vid.

  • wow, thanks for introducing me to these guys, really enjoying it! :)

  • Listen to BBNG while watching this review... WARNING: you will become sedated

  • nice chill album. thanks for the review.

  • Phonte's "Charity Starts At Home" pleeease!!

  • suh-ree-uh

  • OMG Anthony!! Music & Zelda, the two kinds of NERDiness I can relate to!!

  • Very cool. I like it.

  • you must first acquire a taste for, badbadnotgood.

  • Saria's song is a cover of Saria's song from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

  • @XtylerwithasilentX Nero's Welcome Reality is really good. you should also check out Porter Robinson's Spitfire, he is this kid on skrillex's new record label and hes only 19 years old!

  • I thought it was well tethered to lots of early jazz but I didnt hear that much hip hop. I would have given it a 9

  • reminds me a lot of samurai champloo's soundtrack......amazing

  • Love this album reminds me of playing gran turismo on the ps1

  • Wow these guys are really good! Thanks for the rec!

  • thanks so much for reviewing this album. this is EXACTLY what i have been looking for. i get sick of indie pop records that all sound the same. i knew there was a reason i subscribed to your channel ;)

  • Loving this album man, thanks.

  • A much better album than this is Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood - Out Louder.

  • So this is one of my new favorite things now...

  • @jbalboy1234 YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • @theneedledrop I know right?!?! But seriously, I'm not really into heavy metal or any of its close sub-genres and you review alot of that. I still watch the reviews because they make me LOL, but every now and then you review something I wind up liking. TND forever.

  • @Elnejo86 i felt it, too!

  • @armfarm crabcore forever

  • @racoonsmith haven't heard of it. i'll have to check it out. :-)

  • @dpopa15 thanks! :-)

  • ...dope album, but Giant Steps in no way sounds like crap. I do agree people need to play new shit though, including BBNG. Cuz lets be honest, no matter how good they flip songs they're pretty much a cover band at this point. Contribute a full, classic album to the spectrum and then, maybe, you can talk shit. Till then, shut up and do your covers and show just a touch of respect for those who came before you.

  • You hit it on the head with regards to modern Jazz. Also: review more Jazz!!!

  • am i the only one having trouble expanding the file?

  • haha all the youtube shit

  • @jek21 Yeah. i had the same reaction... it is not very good though :/

  • @killervid That is unfortunate.

  • @jek21 Yeah, they are still stuck in the past. All of their "new sounds" sound "early 90's" at best :(

  • this album is dope as fuck

  • i like old anthony fantano, before he sold out to big internet :D

  • I would be ok with never hearing blitzkrieg bop again, in fact i would be ok with radio dying entirely with the state its in now

  • BA BA BA BADDEST

  • Comment removed

  • First you turned me on to Colin Stetson. Then Matana Roberts. Now BBNG. You should review more jazz.

  • Review Under The Influence, Domo Genesis.

  • @Hawdkoah thanks

  • I love this really hard. More young folks need to get into jazz. Such an underrated/underrepresented genre these days.

  • @Nic33rd Well, like he said, it isn't marketed to young people.

  • At least there was no product placement in this video.

  • Gonna have to check this out considering how much I love The Odd Future sessions.

  • N64 was my childhood. Super Smash Bros, Pokemon Puzzle, Zelda... loved it. Definitely checking this thing out.
