  • The RF Polish fighter squadron shoot down 126 enemy planes. It was the most effective RAF squadron during the battle of England and they didn't fly the legendary Spitfires but a lot slower and worse Hawkers Hurricane. Fucking British arrogance. Thankless pigs!

  • Sorry, but you are talking British arrogance.

Unfortunately no one can prove it so let's just live with our own perceptions.

    florianska6

  • Pity the film quality sucks.

  • Making holes in the Spit dream - sorry, fact. British built. Stop the Polish nationalist agenda. You should be very happy Britain was there, made this genuis machine, and invited your brave men to fly in her.

  • Poles flew well, but it is a misnoma to credit them with winning the battle. They represented a tiny part of Fighter Command.

  • MH434 is painted in the markings of 316 "City of Warsaw" Sqdn with the boxing bulldog of Polish ace Aleksander Gabszewicz who was credited with 9.5 kills including by some accounts a share in the first Luftwaffe loss of WWII. He survived the war and remained linving in exile in the UK til his death in 1983. Post war politics were complex and unfortunately the Poles bore the brunt of appeasement to Stalin to avoid ongoing full scale conflict. One of many brave Polish pilots. Lest we forget.

  • To KallistiUK:-

The worst thing was that end of WWII, when the victory was celebrated, Britain banned the attendance of Poland, in deference to the Soviet Union. An utter scanda.

  • awesome....love it an... Iconic aircraft....thanx for posting

  • Aside from the obviously beautiful aircraft - the landing in this clip is absolutely pefect talk about featherlight touch!

  • sound like freedom :)

  • Heinz Knoke's book " I flew for the Fuhrer" has a bit of information. The 109 was not easy to fly, in any of its forms. Walking round a 109 is a bit off putting, there is not enough wing to lift the large engine at first sight. The pop-out slats on the early models were not altogether helpful, and the type was noted for killing inexperienced pilots in stall/spin accidents on takeoff and landing. Easier to build than Spitfires, the engineers nearly got it right. Now if they'd used a Mustang wing.

  • can someone tell me does anyone still makes the spitfire, can a person buy one, where, and if someone knows what is the price of one of these :) please

  • @SERDAROTmkd Yes there is a company in Australia that make 3/4 scale spitfire replicas powered with an american car engine.

  • @fireblade211 do you know wheerre i can find this company??

  • @desmondyeowk The site for the company is supermarineaircraft . com

  • is on the Polish character

  • He was the BEST...RIP..

  • merlin is god!

  • it be better if it was shooting something

  • You know a woman did the design of the wings

  • @grumm70

It takes a womans tender touch to create something of emense beauty.

  • Saw one of these down here in Southampton yesterday, awsome vid thanks!

  • man that thing gives me goosebumps it's beautiful in shape and sound

  • good ex sund !!

  • Mark Hanna, still missed.

  • Ive just come

  • MG Whitfield ,,correct let's not forget the men inside them either

  • Why do all the best aircraft sing like that? It roars like a tiger (bit of cantradiction but my goodness!)

  • RIP Mark Hanna - he passed from this life flying a Buchon Messerschmitt.

  • Mark Hanna departed this life flying an ME 109 - It turned upside down and caught fire!

  • If you are moved by the sound read "Sigh for a Merlin" by Alex Henshaw - he was the Chief Test Pilot at Castle Bromwich during WW2

  • Reginald Joseph Mitchell CBE, FRAeS

    Supermarine Aviation Works, Southampton, England.

  • Now, if that sound doesn't turn you on!

Fantastic video. I wish I had bigger PC speakers :-)

    Pilot Mark Hanna : 1995-1999

  • Awesome

  • Only a Yank would put a Merlin in a fkn Car...this is the best sound you will ever hear from an engine...it makes all my hairs stand up on end

  • @SASNIGHTCRAWLER erm - sorry to burst your bubbly thing but John Dodd (UK) was the first to put a Merlin in a car to my knowledge - take a peek at this (and scuse the poor quality) /watch?v=OxMxFE37Sxw

  • @BaddaBigBoom Cheers m8. i think the American put it in an estate car i think, well from what i can remember anway, and he also stuck a Rolls Royce grill and lady on the front, Rolls got wind of it from a Rolls customer who had seen this, and took him to court to get him to remove the lady, he refused and ended up having the grill taken off too...anyway i will check out the link...cheers

  • ok I admit it's supermarine:p

  • I love that sound

  • The sound of the Merlin has no equal.

  • IT"S SUBMARINE!!!!

    submarine spitfire not super!

  • @timsduif SUPERMARINE...You half wit.

  • @timsduif right........

  • @timsduif PLEASE, don't be a helmet.

  • Ah, that sound!!!

  • just love Spitfire!!

  • Awesome aircraft !

I'll bet the Germans hated to see these things climbing rapidly towards them.

  • @dbviewer5 I bet they hated seeing it diving from above even more :)

  • Just an Awesome Sound just Perfect - a Spitfire flew over my house about 2 years ago could tell straight away what it was !

  • The Brits were the best pilots in WW2 says, an American :)

  • You Yanks would know. You were damned good yourselves.

  • @caryasiam and the polish 303 RAFsquadron was the best in the whole RAF

as in loss : kill ratio

    :-)

  • @dudekidPL

Without the Polish pilots the RAF would have been very seriously disadvantaged and the end result could have been different.

    Fantastic pilots and wonderful people.

    Floriańska 6

  • @florianska6 Indeed, there were 16 Polish Squadrons in the RAF during the war but also many other nationalities including Czech, French, Norwegian as well as pilots from many British Empire (Commonwealth) countries like South Africa and Canada. This is why it is said that it was the Allies who won the war, not the British or the USA (although they seem to think that ;) )

  • @florianska6 ...It would've mustered 2,800 fighter pilots, instead of 2,950. They were a great asset, no more so than all the other who partook.

  • @florianska6 Ignorant fuck ! Its because of you polish fucks that we entered the war to help you against the nazis !! Silly CUNT ! We should have left you all to be gassed i hate the lot of you ! Get the fuck out of my country ffs ! Stealling all our jobs & working for peanuts ! Dirty arrogant bastards !

  • @TaNkSaLoT100

Were you there? I rather think that your comments here are O.T.T. and NOT representative of the majority of British and Polish people. Indeed, the nuanced rhythms of our beautiful English language are lost on you I suspect. You do a grave disservice to the memories of the pilots, both British and Polish who flew in the war.

  • @TaNkSaLoT100

  • @florianska6 Without Polish Pilots the RAF would not have suffered a disadvantage, whilst I praise the achievments and skill of Polish pilots, you have a grossly over inflated perception of their contribution to the Battle of Britain.

  • a theres a pic of a spit with a Db601 installed looks kinda goofy

  • @wind2jammer

    jeah...just like a Me109 body with a Merlin engine...the HA1112 Buchon sucks

  • R.I.P

  • true fighter,my teacher in skhool flew one, loved the guy.,,that was back in the 60s...

  • The Best in WW II

  • Comment removed

  • It sounds so good.

  • Hannah flying a SPIT - NICE.

How cool is Das Boot - a genius film

  • nice love the sound of that merlin lol

  • in fact , the Luftwaffe had a NUMBER of flyable Spitfires after BoB . Having test flown them , they decided that the Me109 suited their tactics better in most respects. But they LOVED that Merlin engine.

But anyone who knows even a TINY part of German aircraft developement , and WHO Hartmann & Nowotny were MUST have respect . I think that the Ta152 ( Fw190D9 - D13 ) were the best.....and I am ALLOWED to think that ! sofukkinthere !

  • What source are you citing that the Luftwaffe had flyable Spits after the battle of Britain?

  • @Saxe333

The Spitfire Haynes manual shows early photo of a captured Spitfire I wearing German Luftwaffe markings.

  • @Saxe333

There's photos around of a Mk V Spitfire that the Germans captured and put a DB601 Engine into for tests.

The Mk V didn't enter service till 1941

  • sexy plane for sure i love it

  • Adolf Galland rated the Spitfire so highly he told Goering 'Give me a squadron of Spitfires!" Did anyone EVER hear that said about a German plane? Nuff said in the argument of Spit vs 109!

  • @MGWhitfield : I'd like to see how the Spitfire compares to the Grumman Hellcat, which the U.S. considered a benchmark for judging other aircraft. The Hellcat was one of the best against the Japanese.

  • @JBC814

Thats a yanks point of view, why arent there any Spitfire Dogfight videos? It says it all. According to many top aviators the Spitfire was the greatest propeller plane ever made. The Hellcat was good because it could take off on aircraft carriers and it was the upgrade from the Wildcat which was proved successful flying from the carriers, they mad it faster and armed it better, thats it. The Spitfire would eat a Hellcat for breakfast in a Dogfight.

  • @Soloman1001 : If the Hellcat can't do it then the Corsair can. Let's see how the Spitfire compares to the Corsair, one of the fastest planes we had on the carriers.

  • @JBC814

I dont know i am just being flippant they were all good but the top aviators said that the Spitfire was the best propeller plane ever made.

  • @MGWhitfield Churchill in 1938: "we need some Messerschmidt planes if we want to win this war"..

    nuf said ;)

the spitfire were good fighter planes, and slightly superior to the FW 190 and ME 109, but the UK only withstands germany because of the US economy and support in material and personal..

don't act like you won the war, you only stood long enough to not loose it!

  • Comment removed

  • @MGWhitfield

    Are you joking?

  • @MGWhitfield The FW 190 was in front line ops in 1941....... too late for what?

  • @derschatten82 Sadly for you world war 2 started in 1939....

  • @derschatten82

You are right in part. Thr Germans lost interest in Britain to push east instead. The RAF did prevent them acheiving air superiority in 1940 but that was not the reason Germany did not invade. The real reason was that Germany had taken a hammering by the Royal Navy and simply did not have the resouces to protect a cross channel invasion. Had they gone ahead the RN would have almost certainly destroyed most of the invasion barges before they landed on British soil.

  • @MGWhitfield Yeah - so Galland said...I wonder if he really had the bollox to say that to the second most powerful man in the Reich? I doubt it - Galland was a great friend of Douglas Bader...another bullshit merchant!

  • @billyconnearly A bullshit merchant? Why, because he was English?? If that's the case then bear in mind your alter ego doesn't share your SNP view.

  • @TheMG63 Nothing to do with his nationality - I love the English and have lived in West Sussex (near Tangmere!) for 20 years! Bader prevented his "batman" Alex Ross, who was a non-combatant, from being repatriated in 1944 because it was his job to carry Bader up and down the stairs in Colditz. Mr nice guy!!

  • @TheMG63 You talk about the SNP's view! From what you say about the UK you feel exactly the same!! I totally agree by the way - I am Scottish - you are English - where's the problem? It all goes back to when England wanted Union so that the country was not caught between two enemies - Scotland and France. Thank God we grew up.

  • @MGWhitfield I think it had more to do with selling his book in britain .After the war.

  • @MGWhitfield Also dont forget the spitfire had radar on its side.

  • @MGWhitfield The Germans should have given the Fw-190 priority over the Me-109. It was the best fighter of them all. And it was actually the Hurricane that saved Britain, the Luftwaffe was already severely weakened when the Spitfire began to perform.

  • @Kroenen81 You don't take into account that in the Battle of Britain there were 30 Squadrons of Hurricanes as opposed to 19 squadrons of Spitfires. The Hurricane shot down 21.9 credited aircraft per squadron, the Spitfire 27.8 credited aircraft per squadron. The spitfire's ratio of kills was higher than the hurricanes in comparison to their numbers. The hurricanes would not have been so successful had not the spitfire taken out the supporting German fighters.

  • @MGWhitfield That proposition could run as far as propellor driven planes are concerned.

How about the Gloster Meteor vs the Me 262?

The 30 millimeter cannons on the 262 would punch that Gloster and contemporary planes a few new exhaustholes.

Bear in mind that the Gloster meteor was only in service THREE years after the war. Gloster E.28/39 was ready, but that was a trainer.

  • @rocksparadox No, you are wrong. The Gloster Meteor was in service the same week the ME262 went into service. July 1944.

  • @MGWhitfield Yes, Galland did say that but if you read his book you'd see that he said that to infuriate Göring because of what Göring was asking his 109 pilots to do during the Battle of Britain. And if you read further in his book Galland says he thought the Spit was a better defensive aircraft than the 109 but that he considered the 109 to be fundamentally better. I'm not trying to say one aircraft is better because personally I like both equally.

  • @zontral hi, in what way was the Me109 fundamentally better?

  • @MGWhitfield

There was an occasion when the Focke Wulfe was introduced. A British squadron leader put up a sign; "Who's afraid of the Focke Wulfe?" Every pilot in the squadron signed it!

  • @dunrudin I think the story was "who was afraid of the big bad wolf?" by a new P-51 pilot, and his wiser squadron mate signed "we are"

  • Wow Christian, over 30 exclamation marks in one post. That's impressive.

  • cristiandan,ME 109 ugly as fuck, only advantage over a Spitfire was fuel injection, apart from that nothing.Your man might have had a good victories under his belt, but hey!The krauts got there ass kicked in the air period.

  • Erich Alfred "Bubi" Hartman (April 19,1922- September 20,1993) also nicknamed "The Blond Knight Of Germany " by friends... and "The Black Devil" by his enemies,is the most successful fighter ace in the history of arial combat!!!!!!!!!!! 352 aerial victories!!!!!! Me-109 Fighter, nice and best sound!!!! OK!!!!!!!! RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!

  • That is because of three things. He fought against outdated Russain designs not state of the art US and British designs, 2 most of his kills as he later admitted were bombers and transports and three the allied pilots flew less combat missions because they were rotated when every German pilot had to be flying, there was no "rear". Either way, still a great.

  • wow!!!

  • Thats two words

  • One word "absolutley amazing"

  • The hairs are standing on the back of my neck,,,,,,,,,,,,im loving it!

  • Best airplane ever!!!!!!

Only the real pilots got to fly something as good as that.

  • if there is a better looking aircraft i want to see it, if there is a better sounding aircraft i want to hear it....just simply the best fighter aircraft ever

  • wow me hubiera gustado aver vivido en los años 40 este avion es sorprendente junto con el p 51 mustang y el zero japones

  • top speed is about 490mph

  • me 109s!!! nice and best soud!!!!! OK!

  • no way man, spitfire sound beats me's into the ground

  • I was nearly run over because of a spitfire. Walking through a motorway carpark one flew over head. I stopped with dropped jaw and this four by four came to a screaching halt, the driver was just about to give me a mouth full when i just pointed skyward - he too was with dropped jaw....

  • Nothing beats the sound of a merlin

  • Or 4 royles royce merlin engines on the lancaster:)

  • I dont know why but the sound of that engine gives me chills.

  • I know what you mean. Wonkabar007's "Pure Merlin Engine Sounds" clip brought tears to my eyes.

  • @MickeyCBR1100XX actually, i know something that does

    4 merlins :) Lancaster XD

  • @MickeyCBR1100XX Hear Hear !

  • @MickeyCBR1100XX ...only sweet whistling sound of DB605 :)

  • @MickeyCBR1100XX i like the drone of the c-130's engines at high altitude!

  • @MickeyCBR1100XX i agree. but you should check out the Sakae 21 (Zero 52) ... sounds very nice.

  • jepp polish polska markings on this 1.

  • I live only 5 kilometres away from this airfield.....on air shows I can play WWII air combat simulators....and hear the real engines not far away....

  • Except it's not Polish, but nice try though

  • I would say it is, i see symbol on the engine 2:18

  • Sorry but you're wrong. Check the planes history (Old Flying Machine Company website)! It was never owned by Poland and so would never have the Polish Aircraft symbol. Poland only ever owned one Spitfire - clearly not this one!

  • Sure, i mean it was Polish air squadron formed in UK :)

  • Aha, rozumiem :-) actually I've been checking, and you probably had more than one Spitfire. I found a link which said you had a few thousand. So I made a little mistake on that one. Oh, and I have no problems with Poland - mieszkam tutaj ponad cztery lat teraz. Na razie nie chce wracac do anglii! ;-)

  • "Except it's not Polish, but nice try though "

What they mean is that at the time the vid was made MH434 was wearing the markings of 316 Squadron, which was one of the Polish maned squadrons within the RAF during WWII

  • Sorry scatmanwalks, didn't see your later reply to JackPLflashpoint

  • better 2:18

  • 2:07 polish aircraft symbol

  • Simply brilliant.

  • put the hun to rest ha ha ha fucking haaaaaaaaaaaa:)

  • Absolutely superb flying- shame it wernt higher resolution but good to watch.

  • There's planes and then there is the Spitfire, what else can this humble man say!

  • Awestruck beauty

  • horsepower! v12 supercharged horsepower. 70 year old horsepower!!!

  • my favorite plane ever , and it'll be #1 plane for me for the rest of my life

  • I love this plane!!

  • Such a pretty aircraft - a great loss that father and son are no longer with us - great pilots both !

  • Repeat please!

  • only 1 way to fly a spit, on full throttle and let that supercharger whine like a good un.

  • best looking and best sounding aircraft ever it puts shivers down my spine

and it was built in west brom birmingham england

  • Designed by a lad from Stoke-on-Trent, Reg Mitchell

  • hah 00.02 i see polish colours ...

  • This Spitfire is Polish

  • yeah sure and the germans won the war

  • U want to be sarcastic - but U fail. This Spitfire Mk IX has SZ-G RAF marks on the sides, Polish National Marks (On the engine), that belongs him to 316 City of Warsaw Squadron.

  • Watch the Plane, and stop that polish.....Chit Chat

  • Heard of the Polish Squadron, RAF? Made a great contribution to Battle of Britain!

  • and a squad makes the plane polish?

  • I don't think he meant that!

  • @pleppes and everybody else, yes there was a large polish contingent flying for the UK in the second world war, the markings depict the polish pilots and their squadrons. Poles would often be mistaken for german pilots after bailing out of an aircraft and landing in an english backgarden or field, and some of them were badly treated by some of the lesser informed english citizens.

  • @snakeyjakehall

Sadly this did happen, I beleive their uniforms were quickly adapted to include a union flag and the word Polish appeared on a badge. They were fearsome fighters, arguably more focussed than Brit pilots due to the hatred they had for the Germans.

  • Makes you want to cry..

  • Even today the Spitfire has to be the best looking aircraft ever made.

  • A relly destruction machine the best of best

  • Please forgive me. The Dutch, Norwegian,Belgian,Finnish ex-pats flew the Spitfire and Hurricane.

  • GRAZYARNIE! Czechs / poles etc fought against the Axis for their OWN REASONS ! not to liberate England. Britain and U.S were not going to have a full scale war with the SOVIET UNION ! OVER THESE COUNTRIES ! it would of destroyed us all ! GROW UP and DEAL WITH IT!

  • Yes very true, I think it is called REVENGE. Yes, the Soviet Union did suffer the largest losses. But this was a different theatre and another site or video.

Laddie there you go. This site, I believe was for those who flew the Spitfire.

  • P.S. All of the above flew, Wellingtons, Halifaxs and Landcasters.

  • Brits,Aussies,Canadians,Kiwis,Springboks,Rhodesians,Czech,Poles, and even a few Americans flew Spitfires and Hurricanes. It took a world to fight the battle.

    The U.K. was never ALONE.

  • Beautiful aircraft, and I just love the sound of the Merlin engines.

  • Ok.. WWII is your field then you must know

that the great war followed by the great depression just about bankrupted and busted the uk there was no money for foreign adventures or keeping the services up to date indeed most bluecollar families were hard put to put food on the table

so piss potless and underarmed we were thrust into a war against thoroughly modernised German forces t was very touch and go BUT WE SURVIVED AND WON

  • and You think Germany was a rich and powerful country after the cease fire agreement in that wagon near the woods of Compeigne?...

Germany wasnt allowed to build large battle ships and the "pocket battle ships" visiting english harbours did overshoot the tons limit.

Every seamen saw that...but didnt care...Europe was eager to go to another war..the french had so much trust in the cease fire that they builded the Maginot Line...times were different...and the germans as a nation no devils

  • ands I am glad the allies won that war...and I thank america...I really thank america to decide that Germany needs good politics instead of european...racist politics...the post war american politics were the best politics Germany ever had for decades...finaly democratic politics for a nation getting ass kicked since 20 years....I feel sorry for the proud eastern parts of Europe who needed to wait so long for freedom...because western EUROPE was a coward....Hungary, Czech.. and the list goes on

  • Czech and polish pilots fought in british planes to defend the homeland of Britain....and where was Britain during the Praque spring or the Hungaraian demonstration...? Fear of war was immanent...the fear of an atomic war...so the politics staid calm...but the nations in the eastern part of Europe which did fought for freedom and peace had to suffer Stalin-communism....and the former West-allies did nothing...just to condemn verbal the military counter reaction of the Stalin system

  • And as for your cheapshot about not fighting but observeing I'd never denegrate american servicemen with whom I have been proud to serve and call some of them friend. I remind you we have as many boots incountry per head of population as you do and as many dead and wounded. yes our soldiers are poorly equipped ,paid, and treated but thats the fault of a shit government not the soldiers DONT KNOCK THE FEW FRIENDS YOU HAVE LEFT cos itl be worse on your own

  • is that a reply of one of my statements ? I mean the cheapshot quote....man to accuse the military is wrong....the politics were the problems and are the problems...the english soldiers did fight for a good reason...but the politics before declaring war were kind of weird....

  • Not sure if you mean WWII or Iran/Afghani war but if the latter well if you had your time again you maybe wouldnt go there

  • as far as I am concerned the WW2 is my field of interest....the new war (Afghanistan/Iraq) fought by the british and americans and some of their "new friends" is a pretty grazy story..the aims are different and the reasons are different...not a good partnership in my eyes
