hi guys i'm italian and i can tell you that there's no excuse for Schettino's behavior he has abandoned the ship and he gave the allarm after more than one hour. This is not the first call that De Falco make to Schettino..in previous Schettino went on to say that everything was fine. Was the captaincy to send relief before that fool of Schettino would do something!!!If those people were saved it's only thanks to De Falco and all the captaincy of Livorno!!!Schettino is a irresponsible and a coward!
@Francyinterista92 He is not the only responsable. On french Tv this morning we saw an asian officer telling passengers to go back in their cabins because all was under control. It was a criminal lie. Costa has a very very very big security problem and huge fail of crews recruitment.
Schettino is a criminal but the others too !!! He was not alone on this ship. he was among many officers.
@bobduvar yes you are right!=)...Mine was the response to a comment that said it was too easy to give orders for the captaincy while Schettino was shocked...this is not true because he was not shocked but a coward on the run!And you are right he is not solely responsible as even the second in command was with him in the boat
@zeppelin67637 yes...in a phone call to De Falco Schettino says that the second in command was with him in the boat and De Falco both orders to board...i have heard it on italian tv!
Some facts not present in this video : 1) This phone call took place 3.30 hours after the accident, so there wasn't any possibility of panic. 2) Schettino was among the first to leave the ship, and he didn't even given the order of evacuation, it was the crew that made a mutiny against him,
3)Just after this phone call, he and the majority of the officers didn't go aboard as ordered by De Falco, but left for the Giglio's island. Thumbs up so anyone can see
Very easy for the coast guard to shout orders from his dry warm armchair to a man who hasn't realized what his own behaviour caused. The captain is clearly disturbed. This is not a matter of cowardness versus courage, this is idiotcy on both sides
@MrPesco It is a responsability for the captain to stay on a boat until it's necessary, not a matter of easy or honour, it's the law. A captain of the italian navy is also trained to lean back the panic.
@Adddoro The law doesn't help to review how to lean back the panic. No doubt the captain is to blame, but he has now the whole world against him and everybody teaching him lessons on how to be a captain. He's just human. The more I hear and read criticism on him, the more I feel sympathy and pity for him. I think I'm just human, too.
This dumb ass show off of a captain caused people to loose their lives and put other lives in jerpordy because he wanted to speak to a friend and let them see him on the ship, what a fucking idiot, they should lock his ass up and throw away the key that bastard caused people to loose their lives. And then this bastard leaves the ship and the coast guard had to get on tell him to get back on the ship and see about the passengers which is what is being said here
what a fucking coward .. idiot captain.. fuck cruises.. you are in a floating prison with no rights .. i love the passion of the Coastguard captain telling this idiot to get back on his boat and do his fucking job!
This De Falco seem to be insane or not reasoning properly. Why is he to order the captain back onboard a sinking ship. I feel the captain did correctly staying with the coast guard to orderly plan the evacuation rather than go back a listing ship just because De Falco is not thinking clearly.
@lawlerzftwtf Well, going back to a listing ship with a black-out would be really dangerous and ill-planned if he was the one responsible for a rescue plan. Imagine him trying to return to the completely dark listing ship with people panicking all around him trying to leave the ship. What would he accomplish following the crazy orders from a panicking coastguard? Wouldn't it be wiser instead to stay and make plans where it is possible to do so, and if recon needs to be done, send someone.
@BelRiose2000 What you fail to obviously understand is that by policy, the captain of a capsized/sinking ship is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS the last person to leave the ship, as a captain, he should have known that in the first place and hurriedly helped others who were aboard to evacuate. By getting on that lifeboat in the first place as an authoritative figure, he has already broken the conduct which was supposed to occur, an extra passenger could have been saved by that lifeboat spot.
@dragonblood12 that is absolutely right that is the Marytime law, and this bastard left the ship and the coast guard had to argue with this fucka to get back on the shit and he had the nerve to tell them that its dark and the coast guard said to him, so what you wanna go home, get back on the ship and see about the passengers or he was gonna pay for this and im glad this bastard is in jail
@BelRiose2000 You are an idiot. The coast guard relies upon the information they are given by the Captain of the ship. The fact that he is a coward makes absolutely no difference - his place is on the ship. As Captain he is charged with safeguarding the lives of the 4200 people on his ship. As long as there is a single person still alive on his ship he is unconditionally required to remain on board even if it means his own death. There isn't a single debatable point here.
This one is better!

why he had to go on the ship?
Because he's the highest ranked man, when people see "authority" they follow! No one is going to listen to a chef.
Also its the way of sailors something like "capitan dies with a ship" all navies are proud of their fleets, capitans, staff...
Plz some1 tell me what would you do if U see capitan running away and U both are on the same ship.
