Thanks for posting this hilarious cartoon!! It was on a tape full of Toonerville cartoons that my mom bought when I was young. My brother, sister, and I loved watching them when we were growing up. :)
BTW, sorry for the mis-spelling of Gillett's last name...
Gillett reportedly did not get along with anyone at Van Beuren.
It's a shame that the VB studio lost their distribution with RKO... the Toonerville cartoons are enjoyable. They might have become a popular cartoon series, had they continued to be made.
This is a really good-looking version; it's a shame the audio balance is off-center.
@ChadODell: Burt Gillet was largely responsible for the improvement in the overall quality of the Van Beuren cartoons. Gillet had previously worked for Disney, having directed on of that studio's most famous and well-loved cartoons, "The Three Little Pigs".
Gillet worked at Van Beuren alongside of Ted Eshbaugh, who at one time was also an independent producer (he had produced the first animated version of "The Wizard of Oz"); but the two reportedly did not get along.
Note that Winston Sharples was creating the music for the studio; by the end of the '30s, he was working for Max Fleischer- and his successor, Famous Studios from 1944 to the end of the studio in 1967.
This actually is the very last cartoon made by The Van Beuren Corporation because their distributor, RKO Radio Pictures dropped their product and then subsequently signed on with Disney. By the way, doesn't it seem strange that the the last few cartoon from Van Beuren seem to have increased in quality?

Why is the audio heard on the left channel only? Any chance you could upload this again?
