  • It's great!! Usually the gypsies don't show their bellies when they dance, but I don't agree with @keithmotty1. She actually uses lots of skirt movements that are from gypsy dance.

  • I love you!! Teach me, Mentor me, adopt me! You have inspired me to do this at least once before I die or get really old;-) You have also confused me with the though.. Was I a gypsy/ belly dancer in one of my past life times? I soooo think so. This Video is Magical for me;-) Thanks!

  • That's a lovely dance :D and I love the skirt! But I can kind of imagine trying this dance and getting very dizzy from spinning >_<

  • don't care real gypsies or not

    they're amazing

  • the music is MISERLOU

  • Am i kidding myself or do i hear a ilttle black eyed peas with pump it in this song

  • i'm going to watch pulp fiction

  • Thanks so much for posting this and tagging it as you did. I find the comments super interesting. :-)

  • By the way, that's me dancing. That was with E Muzeki right before Mark (the Greek bouzouki player who is playing the lead) and I formed our band Wine and Alchemy. You can check out more world music and a lot more dance by searching "Wine and Alchemy" or on our website wineandalchemy(dot)com

  • By the by, I'm a World Fusion Belly Dancer. I have training in many traditional styles from several Middle Eastern and Mediterranean traditions. And I'm from Michigan. ;-)

Thanks so much for everyone who posted props. This was one of the first times I worked with fans solo.

  • ps - I actually have read quite a bit about Roma culture. Obviously, we're a eclectic, world music band wearing fantasy attire and performing modern music with exotic instruments for entertainment purposes at a theme park/festival.

  • Oops... I mean... everything at the Renaissance Festival is real and meant to be an accurate, academic representation of the historic period and all cultures therein. ;-) Flush toilets, turkey legs, hoop skirts, chain mail bras and all

  • @arwengrey omg!! ur soo good and aS A Gypsy!! i really think u demonstrate a good gypsy music and dance!!

  • I love Wine and Alchemy I watch them every chance I get. And Roxanne is the Best!! And all the Guys are very talented. Roxanne and Mark are Graduates of great universities!

  • The group playing the music is Emuzeki. I saw them at a Ren faire in Florida. I recognised the woman playing the guitar.

  • @thepirateinjeans They are awesome...Roxanne is a marvel & I believe she is of Romanian decent. She's a phenomenal dancer/performer & sooo beautiful & talented! Think one of the problems here is the poster put...Performing "like" gypsies.

  • what's up w/ all the weird comments about gypsies?? sheesh- this is a show, she's graceful, beautiful, talented, sultry, athletic - a joy to watch!! thank you for sharing this. i'm of indian origin and can appreciate all kinds of dances! this is awesome!

  • she is just a girl pretending to be Roma /Gypsy .... it is very cute . But NOT Roma

the music is a (not great) take on a beautiful flamenco song ........

  • he is just a girl pretending to be Roma /Gypsy .... it is very cute .But NOT Roma .

  • I WANT HER SKIRT!

  • Indian manufacturers produce the best of such fabric. When you go shopping, check for made-in-India OEM label. You are more likely to buy the right type of skirt that can do the swirls shown in the video. Anyway, just my view for your reference.

  • @BabyG115

My friend elisa makes them for me. 8mm habotai silk, 21 yards in the hemline, hand pleated and custom dyed. I can give you her contact information if you like. :-)

    -Roxanne Bruscha, Wine and Alchemy

  • i will actually pay $100 to see this for an evening with vodka

  • She makes real art with her body and her soul! Her faccical expressions are full of beauty and its very difficult to keep the dynamic movements and twirls around and around. People have no idea how difficult this is!

  • I love this dancer and the way she dance..

  • which song in this video ?

  • omg...incredible

  • Wow, I could not turn from this performance! Who is the dancer?

  • Wine and Alchemy!! They are a fabulous group of talented musicians. Their lead singer can really dance:)

  • Oooow!

  • adoro su falda !!!!!!

  • How did you not get dizzy? I don't see you using the spotting tech...

  • I really think this piece of music can prolong life if we play it once in the morning everyday.

  • Ancient music is very sensual.

  • que lindo me encanto baila muy lindo... y aparte la musica en vivo!!!

  • Very good and very interesting to watch... Thank you...

  • have to admit..

    the music is focking epic!

  • Hypnotizing. Love the music, like the dancing, WANT THAT DRESS.

  • Surprisingly small belly for an American... impressive dedication there.

  • @MangoZapp oh yeah, because all Americans are fat... makes perfect sense.

  • @TheJunebaby29 Name one thin one.

  • @MangoZapp (after rudely asserting that all Americans are fat . . .)

Assholes like you make the world a depressing place sometimes. Thank goodness for the bits of joy and beauty, like this performance, to bring us out of the despair you seem intent on spreading. Respond with hate if you want, it will make no difference. We all see you for what you are.

  • @rmcdaniel423 As did your mamma and it made her smile. 'We all' :) What are you, spokesperson for America's depressed? Ha. No, you're right, I am really rude. I just can't stand this bunch of dreamers leeching off the system, I only hope that folks may one day move away from this type of functionless recreational activity, it's a wart on the cock end of Western civilisation.

  • @MangoZapp And you are the herpes that infects the cock.

  • @rmcdaniel423 Touche mon ami.

  • @MangoZapp Now that we've dispensed with the typical YouTube ad hominem attacks. . .

how does a recreational activity "leech off the system"? Why do you consider the enjoyment of dance and music to be "functionless", to the point that it deserves your petty insults? You yourself must have at least some shred of interest. Otherwise, why would you have clicked on this video? Surely, a man of your honorable caliber would not just be lurking as an ignorant troll. Would you?

  • @rmcdaniel423 Troll no, Yorkshireman yes. Walk into a shop or pub in the North of England and you will overhear old friends and acquaintances (men and women) 'taking the piss', insulting each other and generally acting in such a way as to strip the other of their pride. At times it is quite competitive - if someone gets serious and becomes insulted they've lost. It makes me chuckle quite how defensive people get on the net; like it matters what some stranger thinks. I enjoy playing with that.

  • @MangoZapp So it's a cultural thing, but placed out of context and with no explanation. I'll take that as a weak excuse. A Yorkshireman in a pub might expect to "take the piss", and do some pissing himself. Out here in the cultural soup of the internet, it just comes across as offensive without warrant.

BTW, to make inflammatory remarks on the internet for the purpose of stirring up trouble is exactly what a troll is. Their entire modus operandi is about "giving the piss".

  • @rmcdaniel423 Troll's fine by me. I'd say that to take offence and make a hugely presumptuous character judgement in lieu of a silly little piss take comment *on YouTube* is just as socially off the mark as you claim I am. I don't personally believe you have any real interest in this puritanical internet ethos you claim to be touting, rather you simply enjoyed the possibility of taking the moral high ground with someone you took to be a simpleton, it feels good to point the finger after all.

  • woah where did the fan come from? XD

  • She's gorgeous, look at her go!

  • is the dress alive? :O its so pretty

  • i enjoyed this. going to ren fair next year!!

  • Haha I was just about to say this looks very texas ren fest....apparently it is! Fun stuff.

  • No Romanian is not the correct term

Romania: is a country located at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe, north of the Balkan Penins Romani also Romany, Romanies, Romanis, Roma or Gypsy; Romani: Romane or Rromane, depending on the dialect) are an ethnic group living mostly in Europe, who trace their origins to the Indian Subcontinent.

Whatever term is used-its beautiful culture, thank you to Wine and Alchemy for sharing their nomadic spirit and sharing their music and dance~

  • @GypsyMoonDancing Too complicated ;)

  • Actually, now that I watched the video through, she is actually doing Romani Gypsy dance. Romani dance heavily influenced Spanish dance. This dance reminds me of Flamenco, which is a Spanish dance. Anyway, she's obviously playing a character, so who cares?

  • Beautiful performance-dancer and musicians! Beyond commenting on Roxannes' beauty and skillful dancing she possesses something much more valuable to a performance over being the most optically deprived of food-which is passion, emotion, flow~Amazing musical performance as well-Actually the correct term is Romany (Gypsy) or (Gipsy)is a term people of that culture do not prefer. However that term wouldn't be as widely recognized would it?

  • @GypsyMoonDancing Is not "Romanian" the correct term?

  • @cheajna Roma or Romani is the correct term. Romanian is the term for people that come from the country of Romania

  • not being mean at all, she is really good and pretty but...... the skinnier one should be up there to dancing

  • @28taydog Why?

  • I saw this lady at the Michigan Renaissance Festival about four years ago, I believe. She did sword and fire dances as well.

  • so not gypsies at all then... more like hippy performers ????

  • luis miguel by night ,the gypsy dance of the moon........

  • I love this video! I've taken belly dancing lessons for two years and even choreographed my own veil dance, but never saw anything like this.

    Thank you. Keep dancing!

  • This is a friend of mine, Roxanne, who, along with her band, truly embodies the gypsy spirit. Bear in mind there are gypsies of every ethnicity--and the title was chosen by someone else. They are traveling performers, and go by the name Wine and Alchemy. Every culture and subculture has variations on dance, costuming, etc. If you feel you must be neurotic and rude, please keep it to yourself.

  • As a Sinti Gypsy...i Can say this...she is super talented. But thats not how our women dance. And she never get out of the house with her misrift exposed like that.

  • @Hofgoblin i think its nore of a Moorish sort of dance, like in medival spain. It not pure Gypsy, its like gypsy fantasy or something.. But the music sounds very Zambra-Mora..

  • i am snake a roma man usa i know mi ppl n the woman is not a roma or so call gypsy at all n we n indians so call gypsy r not 1 ppl not from day 1 fact we see all ppl not romas as guyjos or not r ppl now look at roma vdos u will see no indians y b coz day r guyjos n i know a fool can not see the facts n the roma in india say day r not originally from india n day say all indians r guyjos now can u see the facts or r you a fool yes man ha ha

  • Frankly, I believe that everybody has a little gypsy in them. Europian or not.

  • woooooo

  • @aish1990

    like you....

  • @justacondom what do u mean by saying ''like you''?

    i'm not old i'm 19 years old and i'm not fat i'm skinny , i look decent i dont think i'm disgusting

u didnt see me so dont judge my looks , anyway i was talking about the girl in the clip i didn't offend anyone here , i think i have the right to tell my opinion. is democracy

  • @aish1990

Ok my apology, but I think sometimes the beauty of an art should transcend some culutral stereotypes of ours which we impose on other cultures, like fat=disgusting/ugly.

  • Awesome...but would like to know, how to make this beautyful skirt by myself...is there someone out there to tell me how to do it by myself?

  • I wanna skirt like tht

  • What would be wrong with being a gypsy? My Great grandmother was a Hungarian Gypsy. She was a strong, beautiful and passionate woman that everyone loved and respected! I am proud to have gypsy blood in my veins!

  • @lilnuttyredhead

I completely agree. The Roma people are very proud passionate race. They inspire my everyday. I HATE the stereotypeing and people really should do research before they open there Fu#*ing mouths. I hope one day I can meet a REAL Gypsy. You must be very proud of your grandmother! x

  • @lilnuttyredhead

    AMEN!

  • I saw them live recently. May just be me, but Roxanne is a fox in my book.

  • I think she should put some clothes on-the musicians on the other hand are more talented..you definitely would not see a real roma showing so much skin!!

  • Wine and Alchemy is an awesome band and they are such amazing people. They are a very ecclectic Gypsy -like band

  • Is this E Muzeki?

  • beautiful!!! although i got dizzy!!

  • skirt?? anyone??? I NEED IT!!! im not sure why, but i seriously can not stop thinking sbout that skirt. does anyone know what fabric it is? or indeed, anything about it? PLEASSSEEEE????!!!

  • @ifancyapieceofbrie It's a 25 yard tissue cotton skirt. Just google 25 yard skirt and you'll find many vendors who sell them.

  • Great congratulations, i loved it, me encantó!!

  • 1. this is not a gypsy woman

    2. this is not a gypsy music

    3. this is not a gypsy dance

    4. this video has nothing to do with gypsies

  • @Ispyyourmind1 but still nice video

  • @Ispyyourmind1

Hence why it was called gypsy-styled. It was 'influenced' by gypsy culture alongside others. It's rather obvious that they weren't going for authenticity here, so chill out.

  • @DemonDarkchild you dement you have no idea what stands for dance like a gypsy, and if you dont know how gypsies dance shut up and try to find videos where real gypsies dance real gypsy dance. Or you can write Apache-style and if some white women will dance like a belly dancer you can write ,,they weren't going for authenticity here,, u retarded uncultured dunderhead.

  • @Ispyyourmind1

Honestly, I have no idea why you are attacking me. This dance is 'influenced' by gypsy culture. One could also say 'loosely based upon.' Perhaps you should stop being so oversensitive and just enjoy the dance for what it is, not for what you think it should be. Regardless of authenticity, this woman did a beautiful job.

  • @DemonDarkchild you dement you have no idea what is gypsy style or how gypsies dance, so stfu. If you dont know what is gypsy style, try to find vids where real gypsies make real gypsy dance. Or you can write Apache-style, and if some white women will dance something like a belly dance you can say ,,they weren't going for authenticity here,, you retarded uncultured asshole.

  • I'm a little dizzy, but I really liked it. Esp. the skirt work.

    Tahara

  • i got hypnotized! @_@

  • how come whenever i go to the festival i never see the gypsie dances. does anyone know what days they have these performers for this year? eek sooo excited!

  • I love her style. It's so fun to watch.

  • She has mad skills not to get dizzy and fall into anything dancing like that! F the five people who dislike this vid!

  • awesome!

  • que hermosooooooooo!!!!! beautiful!!!! have you any cd with this music?? where i can find it?? donde puedo conseguir esta musica?? gracias.

    The dancer is greeeaaat!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The music was .. wow. Just wow. I wish I could download the song somewhere lol. And this 5 minute video is so worth it rather than watching a lady gaga music video. I'd watch this over and over. Watching this might increase my knowledge about this type of dance and inspire me to know more about gypsy origin.

  • Oh and by the way: If they make another "Hunchback of Notre Dame" filme I vote for her to play the part of Esmeralda :)

  • That gril is SOOOO talented!!!! I've seen her other videos and her dances with sword and zills are equally amazing!

  • This gave me goosebumps!

  • For about 5 minutes nothing else mattered but her, Mesmerizing is a understatement, I wish more women would learn the power they have in themselves and not be afraid show it.

  • Oh please tell me where I can get one of those fabulous skirts!!

  • @womanwhois I know, right? :)

  • @womanwhois I love her skirt too! Does anyone know??? :)

  • kadi nai romni kadi dili gaigi

  • TAKEN FROM THE THREAD ON "EUROPEAN RACISM": - sonofthedestroyer: Dont rely too much on what white people write as 'historic fact'. They are known distorters and liars. - THE TROLL'S ANSWER: - ProudConfederateMan @sonofthedestroyer: Yes very true LMAO!!!! - Beware of the exposed white-hating nonwhite troll pretending to be a "redneck" I I I I v
  • Spaniards are in indistinguishable in phenotype from Gypsies not to mention Gypsy culture is a staple in Spaniard culture ,Spaniards are Gypsy and Gypsy are Spaniards basically, not much of a difference their just like their cousins in Hondurus

  • Within every person who belives in freedom, is a gypsy hidden. Being a gypsy comes from within. Love it, celebrate it, and keep on beliving in it.

  • That is just amazing! I suspect what looked like a dagger tucked in waist band was actually the fans. I would get so dizzy!

  • Why can't all gypsies be like this Renaissance reproduction?

  • It looks like a show for tourists. Aloha hawai !!!

  • belly dancing is always fun to watch. Midway thru her dance, the dagger?? at her waistband or hipband disappeared. Don't blame her--it must have been annoying

  • I want one of those skirts

  • 2:51 Damn ,She's good.

  • yeah but there are different "branches" of gypsy. who knows, maybe the performers are gypsy though the dance isnt. and several different dance styles are gypsy-derived. its an ancient culture.

  • lol. There are different branches of Romani ("Gypsy") but they all have the same looks and culture just with minor changes. Anyone who is Romani will know instantly these people aren't remotely "Gypsy".

  • now i know why it's called a gypsy skirt!

  • I do agree that the word gypsy has been wrongly used in the title of this video but i still think its a beautiful dance, isnt dance and music about feelings and self expression? I think she expressed herself beautifully :-)

  • I realize this isn't authentic Gypsy style, but the performance is still great.

  • Beautiful!

  • I haven't been reading these comments, but how about this title change? Their "style" could be called "gypsy" by some people...without calling the performers gypsies.

  • @UnStevie. I believe that you can still call it gypsy, a tribal gypsy. People are comparing her to authentic gypsy which she isn't, but she is a an American Tribal Gypsy which is a very different interpretation of gypsy. Its a form of bellydance that incorporates some ideas of Gypsy. An awesome dance. very expressive.

  • yah.... meravatouké tzigane!

  • @UnStevie it made me shiver was so encapturing!

  • @UnStevie I heard the performers call themselves gypsies and they said they'd cast a spell on the crowd if they had to. It was funny. They were great.

  • @UnStevie Why can't she be called a gypsy? A gypsy is just a nomadic person.

  • @lisalrocks

gypsies are an ethnicity known as Roma. They are an actual culture and heritage of people. Gypsies are an ethnicity and these people are not gypsies.

  • @mallcraze Gypsies are an ethnicity, not gypsies (lowercase g refers to a nomadic person, not a specific ethnicity). Back to the point- she is playing a character, she can play anyone she choses. Besides, the title says, "Gypsy-style" (whether she meant it as uppercase g or not) could be referring to her style of clothing, not the style of dance. Besides, if she meant it in the way of lowercase g, but used uppercase 'cause that's what one does in titling, it's still correct because she can

  • @mallcraze be a gypsy who is belly dancing. That is not to say the style of dance is actually from the Gypsy culture.

  • @mallcraze Which is the correct term: Roma, or Romanian?

  • @cheajna

roma is the correct term for a gypsy. romanians are completely different.

  • @UnStevie Actually some renaissance festivals are actually doing that. At the Kansas City Renaissacne Festival we call ourselves the Great Travelers as none of our performers is of Gypsy/Romani descent and we don't want to offended anybody by pretending to be something we are not.

  • these are not real gipsys, by far not, just a group of entertainers, who probarly believes that gipsys dances like this woman in the video do. and whats with the music?? not roman music...

  • tsiganos right. this is a costume folk play by some entertainers, which is everything except gypsy... nothing more.... nice adaptations of a black eyed peas song (pump it) and simple but flashy dance...

  • "One inclined to a nomadic, unconventional way of life."

I believe this is what people generally associate with the word "gypsy" nowadays, not specifically the word linked to the Romani people.

  • All they had to do is rename it "Tribal" or something then we are happy as it is not misrepresenting a complete people with a completely different culture. We don't mind people imitating us providing they are accurate and good at it. Juan Martin is a classic example of a gajho who to when start off actually played proved himself amongst the Romani people and to this day still gets ultimate respect from us. WTF is that rubbish above supposed to be??

  • @Tsigano

The person who posted the video may have added the word "gypsy". The performers may have another name for themselves. It has more of Middle Eastern dance in it- and what the heck, let's throw in a fan and do lots of twirling. And note this is a Renaissance Fair- a playground for anachronistic folks just having fun.

Not much finesse or variety in footwork or hands or arms.

And way too long. In my humble opinion.

  • freaking amazing

cabaret is over rated...gypsy is more raw and blunt and gets the job done

  • the fan, the skirt movements and the guitar is like Spanish flameco.

  • The movements in her arms are so alike to ones used in the dances of Guadalajara, Mexico, we can't deny that we are desendants of spanish people XD

  • Only one word : Mesmerizing !

she hypnotized me, the music was so beautiful, lovely, a combination of arabic tone and spanish maleguena. lovely.. thanks for the vid author

  • Gypsy women??!!! How dare they misrepresent a whole culture of people. The word is Romani and never do Romani women, dress, look, dance and play music like this!!

  • @Tsigano

wow.....cool it a bit....most people don't use the term Romani nor do they even know what it means...please by no means take offense at those who only know Romani people as gypsy..we're not trying to degrade your people....

  • Its not the word I am upset by. Its the fact that they use the word with dance and dress that would actually been seen as an act of discrace amongst real Rromane' (Romani). They look, dress and dance nothing like "Gypsies", yet they advertise themselves as so. Its very offensive for us as it is a misrepresentation. There is a lot of it from white European people for some strange reason

  • It's amazing how she still knows what direction to face after all that spinning around. I'd surely lose my balance fast. Beautiful!

  • @OwlQuill Gypsy dance concept comes from India check Rajasthani

  • @OwlQuill the trick is to look at just one point when you're twirling. Say a spot on a wall, or a leaf on a branch. When you twirl you make your head steady by keeping your eyes on that one spot, and event hough you might her dizzy, you won't lose your balance. So your head doesn't really twirl with your entire body, but goes AFTER your body. It's hard to explain without you looking, just look at a spot in front of you and don't lose it while you twirl. ^^

  • @akissy I know the trick, I got to learn it at one time while learning Flamenco. However, I still ended up dizzy and off balance after so many turns. So I find it amazing to see someone master it. :)

  • @OwlQuill o.o It's weird that you ended up so dizzy to put you off balance.o.o Maybe practice... Anyways, yeah, she's really really good. ^^

  • I find the term gypsy rather derogitory and slightly offensive....romani is better

  • Comment removed

  • The song's name is "Misirlou", you might recognize the tune becoz the both Dick Dale and the Black Eyed Peas covered it for "Pulp Fiction".

It's actually and old popular Greek song.

  • @AileynD The song is called "The Victor" and the band at this time was "E Muzeki" (which is 1 girl and 1 guy) which did a mix of Greek, Celtic, and Gypsy music.

You can find the sheet music (downloadable) on their website.

However, the band split up. The girl now has her own project soon to launch.

The guy has a new band which now includes that dancer as a singer under the band name of "Wine And Alchemy".

  • I WANT THAT SKIRT

  • i would get soooooo dizzy!

  • I have been fascinated with gypsies, especially the dancing. I mean, they have such passion and such amazing moves, and I am so envious.

  • nice! pop! goes the fan! Nice touch

  • what a skirt!

    woooooow :O

    i want that!

  • Grandfather German traveler, Grandmother Gitana lived most of my life with them and i got to say what she is doing is nice dont get me wrong but no not rom. They look white to me.

  • I think she has great raw energy, it's nice to see a simple modern tribal dance with a lively emotion that matches the upbeat live music....isn't that the true tribal way? I for one would be pleased to stumble across this performance at some festival:-)
