I'm so fed up with it, one cannot watch a video of a mezzo/contralto or a countertenor (or any singer) without running into these brainless comments about which is better.
I just don't see why some people need music to have their fun, when they're more interested in a good fight.
Beautiful singing by Scholl as per usual. Personally, although the melismas are ultra clear I would have liked to hear him do it just a smidgen slower. I am not a singer myself but it just sounds a little jackaly at times.
i have this original audio, which is from "arias for senesino",just as you said,my dear civileso, your work dose lose too much...in CD's track, his voice is much more clear and flowery. melisma sounds very delightful ,and even though, still as his characteristic techneque—so smooth、so neat,so stable,no superabundance.and the other parts of that audio are much better too...but, anyway, thank you so much for sharing your enthusiasm and your work with us! Bravo! well done!谢谢,支持你!
Something that many singers tend to neglect is that some melisma is meant to be slurred and some is not, as indicated in the actual music. The coloratura in this aria is written as a non-slurred coloratura. It's job is to match the styling of what the violins/strings have to do. It's supposed to be slightly bouncy and not smeared/elided.
Sorry to be the spoilsport for this audio - but all the melisma sounds like laughing. His voice is just not for me - but I am glad that so many others enjoy him - that is what is great about singers - their appeal is not universal. In this aria I love Daniels.
I had to post this on Myspace. Jokingly, I said that if the video game people come out with an "Opera Hero" game, this aria would be the hardest and most exciting round.
Andreas Scholl, great voice, wonderful technique, and a cutie to boot. Bravo!
YOu better let us hear it, too, if you can get it taped. I would love to hear it. How wonderful for you.. I wish you to be at your best and win. Good luck.
What do you mean, you are not into his tone. This is a countertenor ! You will get used to it. I find it absolutely wonderful and so will you when you get used to it
His voice is beautiful beyond words.. There is no other voice that moves me as his voice does. It is bewitching.. Incomprehensable!! I think I just made up a word, just forgive me.. I get excited when it is Scholl singing:))
Wonderful! Here's a translation of this aria: A SECTION In the shimmering of arms This my warring soul Will take revenge. B SECTION Whatever gives it its strength Cannot disarm This fighting hand. A SECTION (da capo) In the shimmering etc.
What a wonderful thing for you to put together and post! Thanks sincerely!
