It is true that some of the gymnast in 2008 olympic team LOOKED like 13 years old but that does not mean the were 13 years old. Being underage in the olympics is a serious accusiation so people need to stop saying such things unless they have proofs
Like the US and other countries haven't done the exact same thing and gotten away with it.
On the other hand some people look very young into their 20s. I read an article by a veteran Chinese male gymnast once who said he could believe the girls were legal because of his own experience. People from his region, he said, were small and often looked much younger than they really were.
china cheats IF THE GYMNISTS SAY THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH OF COURCE THERE GONNA SAY THAT!!11 CHINA SHOULD BE PERMANTELY BANNED FROM THE OLYMPICS!!!! (or atleast the next olympics)!!!
Why is everybody critizicing He Kexin, the passports don't lie, i hate when americans make such comments, nobody says anything about that illegal russian (nastia) pretending being american they took to Beijing.
16 my f-in ass!!! some probably were. but there were a few that was most def. under freakin 13 atleast. i know ppl are really short and look younger than their real age...but dang!! u can tell the difference. some still had their damn baby teeth!!!! lol u can tell a difference in a 16 year olds body/head/facial/teeth and whatever else!!! ya know lol
Investigation is now expanding to members of China's 2000 Olympic gymnastic team. Yang Yun admitted in a 2007 interview that she was only 14 in the Sydney Olympics however China listed her age as 16 at the time of the games. Dong Fangxiao said in her blog that she was born in 1985 which would have made her between 14-15 years old instead of 17 like China listed her age as at the time of the games. This is not the first time China has "embellished".
Lol diz i wonder how many medals your country won. And obviously you can't do math either because theres 1 person not a bunch and she was 14. And honestly, it doesn't matter. China cheats in the Olympics held in their own homeland. Thats low.
you mean by a 14 year old that was taken by her family at age 3 and put into training for that very reason. and it wasn't only her that was taken, alot of girls were. she was just the only one of the millions that was good enough. oh and she wont be at the olympics in 2012 cause china will have new 14 year olds that are training right now that will be better than her. She is gonna be out-dated compared to them.
She'll find something to do, and then China is just gonna woop America's ass again with a new bunch of 14 year olds. You can't hate on talent and hard dedication. They worked hard for that. Don't hate

Covering up a person's age is not a simple task. The government will probably have to 'silence' like 100,000 people who are related to and or know the atheletes, or these 100,000 ppl must be dumb.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
These atheletes depend on their profession for a livelihood. They and their families are probably known by many other chinese ppl making it quite impossible to lie about their age. Would they risk their livelihood by lying and get banned from the sport they have trained for years and dishoner their family? Would the government official be so stupid as to cheat and risk a HIGH chance of being discovered? OR instead just play fair as they have done with the male gymnasts and still win gold?
Yes, but it is all the more motive to keep those types of things a secret. If your family relies on the government and they ask you to lie, you know they are not asking, they are telling you to. Or you have the threat of survival not just for you but all your family. The government knows all your relatives. It is just a perspective to think about. I would not want to think a government can do this, but they do. The public just does not hear about it often.

I duuno whether these gymnasts are 15+, but a 15 year old american looks like a 30 year old chinese. My sis when she was 15 years old looked just like these gymnast girls, really.
In a recent interview, 1996 U.S. Olympic Gold medal winnier Dominique Moceanu said that she could flip around better and was more flexible when she was 14 years old than when she was a little older so as you age and gain height and weight, it does factor in. So I don't think anyone here is saying height is age.
Another way of looking at this controversy is via two parents arguing. One says my daughter is better than your daughter, "But," says the other man, "your daughter is 16! Three years older than my daughter and with three years of development ahead of my daughter. That's unfair!" "I don't give a floot!" says the man with the 16 year old daughter. "If you want your daughter can compete and lets see what she (a 13 year old) can do against mine!" So they compete.
My mother, who was 72 looked 54. (1) Chinese DO NOT age as fast as Americans and (2) 13 year olds do not have the same level of physical and mental development as a 16 year old. The advantage is to the older girl!
That just says that they DID cheat and they know it and the only thing they will do about it is to not allow them to host the games again? Interesting...
A stack of available documentation shows that China indeed altered the ages of some of its female gymnasts. According to government forms dug up by a variety of media outlets as well as a resourceful Web expert, double gold medalist He Kexin is only 14, and therefore ineligible. On the other hand, according to her most recent Chinese passport and a copy of a birth certificate, she is 16. So whether she is 14 or 16 China lied either way!
All the "Americans are sore losers" comments are funny to me. If it were the other way around, there is no doubt that people would be accusing the U.S. of being a country of cheaters. The American atheletes that took steroids had their medals taken, and some are going to do jail time. Besides, how can we trust China after telling a little girl that she couldn't sing on stage because she was too ugly. Coincidence? It can't hurt to check.
I agree. I have no doubt China would demand a full on investigation if there was evidence of any American (or any other country for that matter) who may have won medals illegally. I still can't get over the fact that He Kexin's age was stated as 13 9 months before the Olympics. Just who do the Chinese Government think they are trying to fool? At least I don't think we will be seeing another Chinese Olympics in the near future.
Online documents were found for at least 3 gymnasts stating they were 14 years of age or under. He Kexin's age was stated as 13 only 9 months before the Olympic games. These documents have mysteriously disappeared from the internet. There is no arguing that these Chinese gymnasts are good, but when you are smaller, you have an advantage. It is a fact that Chinese gymnasts are on average 3.5 inches shorter and 30 pounds lighter than American gymnasts.

this is a plan to draw the attention away from the fact that china is kicking everyone elses ass. or maybe the people who are accusing them of being underage is a bit jealous that little kids are kicking big asses left and right.lol.
China's own government said that several gymnasts were going to be underage for these Olympics in 2006 and 2007... and now somehow they are no longer underage.
Just like them to fake it, just like the opening ceremonies with the lip syncing and the digital editing. Remember, this is also the country that forcibly removed/arrested/burned people's homes/threatened Beijing residents and family to make room to plant flowers because their homes were not pretty.
Breaking the rules, lying and cheating are disrespectful to the entire sport. I hope this is not the case with China. What example are we setting for our children? Lie and cheat to win? Regardless, China's little girls did an awesome job. No doubt! USA is not a sore loser. We just want the truth!
i'm not sure if they were under age either, but how did they cheat? lying about their age is not considered cheating, just lying, that will lead to disqualification.
Team USA plays by the rules...if China does not, then that is worth reporting...China cannot gain respect by refusing to abide by international rules and standards. That, you must admit, is shameful.
Shut up, America. Don't be such a sore loser. Come up, they beat you even though they are under age, don't be mean about it because China is better than you. If the team break the rule, would the people in the boards let them complete. America is such a sore loser. Go China!!!!
agreed with you, if they waited till 2012 they would probably be WAAAY BETTER and still will beat them.plus disadvantage for the younger china gymnist is that they're weaker than the 16 year old gymnast.and america for complaining about younger gymnist being MORE FLEXIBLE is not a very good excuse cause even if ur 16 you have more experience therefore its a requirement to maintain your fleixbility. and to be flexcible is a must no excuse this is just my opinion.if u dont agree then w.eGO CHINA
you dont understand gymnastics, being smaller is a huge advantage due to the center of gravity being closer to the ground, therefore allowing better performance.
Why do you think 5'3'' is tall for a female gymnast?

Last time I checked height isn't age. Shawn Johnson is 4,9, and she doesn't have an unfair advantage over Nastia Liukin. In fact, are you people telling me that Nastia and Shawn were better gymnasts at 14 than they are now? That's aboslutely ridiculous. Go and watch their earlier competitions. They are nearly the gymnasts they are now, and they weren't close to being world class senior level gymnasts.
