@Aymz. Yes, it was excellent acting on Noah Wylie's part. However, that can be said about all the actors on this show. They were all great & very convincing, making you forget that none of them were actually health care providers. Despite some of the far-fetched storylines, the show itself was very accurate & believable, & I can honestly say that as I myself have a degree in nursing & work as an OR nurse (not quite as fast-paced as ER nursing, but demanding in its own right!)
as soon as I saw this ending, the first thing I cried out was "Please don't let my Bubbie DIE!!" it would have killed me if they ended the series that way. but thank goodness they didn't.
He's bored, not sad. My father was on dialysis for two years. It's really, really boring. Yes, it's a sad place, and it's sad that he should be there, but he's more bored than anything. He still portrays it well, but I saw no sadness in his eyes.
Yeah I am glad they did not kill Carter. We did have some painful Deaths and departures during the series (I still cry when I remember Mark Green's last episode) But Carter is somehow different. We watched him grow, and ER series sort of raised him from a cute and adorable med student to this young man with an exemplary character, who by the way is not a saint, but tries his best. No. the scriptwriters could not just kill him, Carter's character is sort of their baby.
@Noahwylefan88 only part of that is right. Yes he got an infection. No he did not get the other one removed in africa. He lost the other kidney when he and lucy were stabed in season 6.
And to be totally exact, he didn't actually lose the left kidney after the stabbing... but he said he lost 'function' of it ... Benton and Anspaugh had apparently managed to salvage his kidney in All in the Family in season 6. We have to guess it stopped functioning afterwards...
He got malaria in Africa, didn't he? Not too much of a reach to assume he lost the functionality of his left kidney when that happened.
And I don't recall them mentioning the kidney was saved in terms of functionality, anyway. They may have been able to sew it up so it stopped bleeding, but how well do kidneys heal? Perhaps they were simply referring to the fact that he didn't have it removed.
How sad and haunting is this final part? A great twist to last night's UK pace episode. Poor Carter.
I loved how they did this though, a very dramatic and great cliffhanger - very well thought of and shot. And fantastic acting in this scene from Noah Wyle, he really shows the despair Carter is going through without even speaking. That itself, is excellent acting. I love ER.
HE DOESNT DIE he does get a kidney and he lives YAY!!!.... but if he did die this show would suck so bad without him...... he is my favorite person ever I LOVE CARTER!!!!
yeah, I agree that they killed way too many characters on ER. But I'm sure they won't kill Carter. They can use that story to bring awareness on organ donation and have a positive outcome here!

what the???? If Carter dies too, I am NOT watching ER anymore! Enough with the old characters dying!!!!!!!!!

Being in kidney failure and having to get dialysis doesn't mean you're dying!
Patients on dialysis can live for many many years.
noisland76 2 years ago 14
true, but how the hole ER series has gone on, every character that is importrant to the story dies! I am just sick of it.
