That particular year after his death he was topping the charts not only with his new album, but with his old albums (because when he died, people decided to buy his old cd's). This award is "artist of the year " though & MJ's death boosted his sales & the market overall (since he died theirs been traces of other albums increase ) and he charted significantly so he became the biggest artist.
