maybe this song should have no much sense for foreigns, but it speaks about some regions of Brazil' northeast livers that depends of harvest and breeding of animals to live, but they have no support to live as so, have no piped water, and depends of climatic conditions to live, in a region that rain is not so common, because of it they live in a miserable situation and pass hungry.
Rita Lee has Confederate/Southern roots (see: The "Confederados" of Brazil/America) AND... she's actually the GodMother of Maria Rita, Elis Regina's daughter. Check it out if you don't believe me! Marisa Monte is AWESOME, though. Her best work IMHO is with Brown and Antunes from "Os Tribalistas" (See: Ja Sei Namorar). To hear something funny, check out: "Tem Batom Nos Dentes" and look for the English Translation. It's Hilarious, especially if you studied Portuguese in High School like me! Peace!
Muito bom. Adoro Marisa Montes. Só não entendi o porquê de tantos comentários em inglês. We´re glad some foreigners like our music, we don't have only Samba, but a lot more to offer. Rita Lee is another monster of our music, she comes from Os Mutantes, a super famous group back from the 60's.
@charleswcastro1 The reason behind the many comments in English is, I'm sure, the fact that I have subtitled it in English and for that specific purpose: make Brazilian music (which I love) more accessible to people around the globe. That is what my channel on youtube is all about. I had tons of other videos, including Vanessa da Mata, but youtube has censored most of them.
@arenics aww thank you for you very kind words. It's not everyday that I receive a nice comment like yours. i've struggled with the translation, did my best and it's nice to know that it didn't suck. thanks a million!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You do such a great thing, with these informative & touching translations. You are an ace at all this! I adore Marisa & her music. It amazes me just how much of the meaning of these lyrics I was readily able to guess, but there were still gaps scattered there. [I know a lot of Spanish.] This language, Portuguese, is immensely lovely! Again, many thanks for your insight, into the song lyric meaning.
its nice to know some people out there can appreciate a world of music not just what crap is played on the radio. Is there any vids of her singing the classic brazilian music, Jobim, Gilberto..also any Bebel Gilberto? I think Tanto Tempo is fantastic and there is a track on there produced by the Brazilian God of Abstract trip hop and Drum and Bass, Amon Tobin, if your not aware, please check his shit out, its epic and dark and beautiful..
@fjdoreza69 I would love to have the time to find more videos and translate them, but so far, this is what I've got. Lets see if summer break will give me the opportunity to dedicate a bit more to these videos. Thanks for commenting! :-)
Owesome! I just discovered this amzing diva and realized I know a lot of her songs from when I lived in Brazil. I am a big fan of Brazilian music. I am looking for a song that goes."Sim deus quizer...........y tomar banho de sol, banho de sol, banho de sol" did she record that? I can't find it. if so can you post it? :-)
@seriouslyinsanediva I dont think so! The song's name: Baila comigo, by Rita Lee, but i prefer this version: Maria Bethânia e Zélia Duncan - Baila comigo / Shangrilá
@seriouslyinsanediva Oh, the name of that song is "Baila Comigo" and it was written and recorded by another artist called Rita Lee, also Brazilian. Good suggestion for a subtitled video. Let me see if I find the time to do it! In any case, hope i was able to help. Thanks for commenting!
@randomcrapist yes, thank you, I actually found a couple of clips of Rita Lee singing "baila comigo" but I would much prefer to see a well done video with nice visuals.
It's fun to rescue some interesting songs that I heard when I was there between 1994 to 1996.
The 90"s were a great time in Brasilian music, ( as were all the other times ;-) )

I only discovered Marisa last summer. I now have all of her albums and I can't wait for a new one. I play her more often than any other recording artist. I love her voice!
what can I said TEACH ME PORTUGUES!!!! I'm deeply in love with brazilian music .Before I learn english i just to love music in english with out knowin the meanin, and now is portugues dont know the meanin but I can feel the love and the passion of many of the songs.im a romantic ... thank you!! for translating :)
Hi! I agree! She is really nice...but I would love to see some other videos from Vanessa da Mata...
I know it is not easy to translate songs, specially because the person must be a sensitive person, someone who has a poetic view...Congratulations!!! kisses
@Rennybras: I have tried adding some Vanessa da Mata stuff. Problem is... the record label censors me and blocks the videos from being watched in the US. Therefore, it's pointless to me. I'm open to suggestions, though! :-)
