  • WTF simply build a road on that runway. Maybe in spring he need the soil for new crops. Rich farmer who transport seeds by plane!

  • Poor engines! Breathing all that dust! That's terrible!

  • Jis it just missed the tree tops, landing on this strip is not meant for a rookie, great clip thanks for posting!

  • Great video, good job on the landing too!!

  • Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful, probably some of the best aviation footage I've ever seen.

  • Fantastic! Thanks!

  • sweet

  • Nice stuff. Thanks for the upload.

  • well done

  • The DC-4 does not have reversible props, the DC-6's do. Some DC-6B's have three in windows forward but most have two, as do most DC-7 & DC-7B's. The DC-7C had three windows forward, but some United DC-7's had no windows forward (these were all first class and had extra luggage room between the main cabin and the flight deck, instead of the forward lounge with 8 facing seats.

  • cool sounds of the motors !

  • The guy siting in the bucket is sort of dangerous

  • sure about that? the DC6 is pretty tough and used by bushpilots regulary to do landings such as this. just watch ice pilots. they have DC3, DC4 and C-46 landing on much worse strips. someone who buys a DC6, plans to use it unless he is a retard. planes like this are not meant to sit on a tarmac. these are workhorse and very good for freight.

  • awesome

  • Mas ahh bagual !!!! Que poerama !!!

  • I did not know the DC-6 had reversible props!

  • I think he'd done that before.

  • I think this is a dc-7..three windows ahead of the props...

  • Nicely done sir.

  • lol this video was F***** awesome

  • I'm drinking my morning latte, bichez.

  • model or real plane?

  • no engine problems with the dust?

  • @skazhiprivet

Normally, he'd turn off deactivate the reverse thrust before it gets sucked into the engines.... I dont see why he held it on so long. Plenty of runway left. Maybe just putting on a show?

  • risky spectator positions

  • Fucked the engines up...

  • what an awsome plane :DD

  • And what Arkansas airport would this be?

  • Ten minutes later the pilot's balls are came in an A-380.

  • Great my shipment of Cocaine made it!

  • thats bush flying lads

  • Great Video, Great Job,,, Thanks for posting this...

He did hit a couple of feet short, but sure enjoy'd the

way he kicked th 6 around to get line'd up... Great Job...

    .

  • Lol at the dudes in the left corner @0:36

That's how you get a good filming spot!

  • @ShaunThaSheep Yes … but then again if an official asks him to shove off …

  • 100% for this precisionlanding!

  • what a beast

  • Nice execution. Stick and rudder.

  • Its bitter sweet to see this. I highly dought he will maintain this aircaft for flight. However... if he maintains this for future people to see... it might justify its parking. Either way is acceptible. but to sit and rot like old bike in a garage, not good at all.

  • Brilliant vid!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Is so sad to see an airplane on his last flight...

  • You are right twinstu50 the helpers and brave pilot did a great job. Congratulation for saving such a masterpiece. I am from Namibia and we have 2 of those lovely birds. (I hope they have not sold them yet). When I was 9 years old I watched them land and take off from Windhoek Airport to Germany and back.....a 10000 km trip. I just LOVE them.

  • what a beast lol

  • Amazing footage... Awesome, really. Immediately I thought about dust ingestion by the engines!!! I trust that something does filter the intake air, or else I imagine that could cause some serious wear and tear on the pistons.

  • This aircraft is to be a static exhibit and this was its last ever flight. The runway was specially constructed for the landing so prop damage not that important.

  • I think I'm in love....

  • nice long runway, lenght to spare

  • freaking awesome!

  • poor props - get sandblasted on every landing!

  • @tinolino58 It's the engines that I'm more worried about.

  • @emp29 The engines have airfilter but not hte props.

Did you own and operate a aircraft? I did for more then 20 years..

    Have a great time :-)

  • @9T6Q Okay I guess you don't. Nevermind.

  • nepal...

  • What is the point to buy this plane but unable to fly out again ??? At first, I was wondering how the plane is going to take off on such a dirt track, so scary......Eddie Lim from Singapore

  • oh my lord :-)

  • This DC6 was not ment to take off again on that same airstrip. This airstrip was specially made so that the plane could retire on that farm. this DC6 was bought by a rich farmer.

  • @Truckstone

The two men, and the legion of helpers, are all to be congratulated.

It is a wonderful thing that this historically significant piece of aviation history is now preserved, and able to be seen by future generations.

That her last flight was to a well deserved, safe, respectful retirement, is befitting.

At 6 years old, I saw my first BIG aeroplane, (a Connie).

Love, the sight/smell/touch, I still tremble.

Now, your DC-6,- another child, another me.

  • @Truckstone what for?

  • @Truckstone That is a shame. Maybe it will someday get sold on and fly again :)

Btw, do you happen to know what on eart a farmer wants with such a big plane?

  • @Truckstone what kinda farmer was he?

  • @Truckstone that would make an awesome holiday house.lol

  • @Truckstone Yea right, why would farmer need DC6?

  • @XStarss for display

  • Hairy stuff, just above stall speed. Were those telephone lines?, good place for them. :( Cant believe theyll get up again!

  • epic!

  • superbe vidéo !

  • short landing!

  • Love it!!

  • I love the "safety barrier" for the people. oh yea , lol

  • No way that would pass EU regulations. lol

  • @clymore25

    Dead right!.

I have had an interest in aviation since 1955, (I was five then), and, to cut a long story short, inspite or despite of, the money lenders/beancounters, and their myriad sycophants, governmental, legislative, or whatever, the Aviation society fights and prevails.

  • Bloody hell.

  • Man... what a beauty, but I would not do that.

  • Holy crap, nearly put it into the trees.Sink rate was too fast too early.Good thing he had enough air speed to pull the nose up,or we would have been watching it crash instead.

  • umm dc-6 has reverse thrust?

  • @johnmw13 They change the angle of the propeler blade so the force counteracts the forward movement. Turboprops have the same thing.

  • I was the one who was flying it lol.

  • Shit the 50ft obs!! That was too close, awesome landing by the way!

  • AMAAAAAAAAAAZING LANDING!!!!!!!!!!

  • That´s what I call "old school" flying skills. Landing a very manual plane on a strip without any electronic guiding systems or aid, just visual with expert knowledge. Respect ! The pilots got to have balls of steel ! Realy nice video !

  • Way to make a grand entrance!

  • Is that runway long enough to take back off?

  • i wonder wht the people were doing when plane passed them on the other side at 0:28

  • Not really a perfect landing like someone said. He did not need to dust the engines this bad, he had enough runway to slow down.

Such a sweet plane, what Id give to fly it some day though that will be a bit hard Im guessing .

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful. Word up to the PIC: take the props out of beta range BEFORE the dirt envelops the engines! Of course, perhaps his main concern was the end of the runway. Understood. Just sayin', yo.

  • WOW nice

  • Now that's what I call skill!

  • you dust those motors very bad when you land them on dirt run ways it"s not good for the engines at all it does lot of damage to them

  • Que dó do aparelho nessa poeira...

  • That's a sweet plane, and some bad azzpilots!!!

  • @ 0:01 .... that kid must be a diesel fan. "i love black smoke!"

  • R.I.P headphones

  • Perfect landing......

  • Totally stupid landing!@

  • Is this pilot drunk there in a fucking village!

  • what in the hell was that ? A one way trip, landing only ?

  • In October 1978 a pilot landed a DC-4 without permission at Harvey Airfield in Snohomish, Washington; pictures abound here of the landing, you see people running in all directions and a new Chevy van getting smacked and rolled by a main gear. The left wingtip was smashed. It was (somehow) flown out and up to Arlington, where I saw it up close the next day.

  • 0:04 "TCAS: Climb, there is a tree, climb climb"

  • full reverse, eh!

  • Hmm, interesting to see that nearing the end of the landing roll number 4 prop runs into what seems autofeather. Could be a result of strong imbalance in the torques between the engines on landing, don't think the engine was cool engough to shut down intentionally already. Nice job!

  • @MrPeagee Yep, and also, # 2 prop seems to be still in reverse mode, at the end.. Nice bird! nice ldg!

  • rc model

  • True meaning of SKILLS

  • gee, that did those engines alot of good, nice inhalation of dirt and debris....glad I don't own it

  • Badass. Beautiful landing!

  • Hermoso!

  • Sweet! Pretty insane landing. Almost clipped those wires. Amazing prop pitch angle reverse in the dust.

  • That was one near crash. But nice video.

  • @9T6Q Low life language :-(

  • @9T6Q Guess he is a photographer . Had to take some best shots from the top.

  • @9T6Q Do you speak english?

  • @8literbeater do you know whats english?

  • AWESOME

  • @Sdwr87 and CTFlyer7: the reverse pitch propellers were introduced with the DC-6 in 1946. Search youtube for "Douglas DC-6 New Airliner 1946 Universal Newsreel".

I talked to the engineer of the Red Bull DC-6B and he told me that usining the reverse is mandatory at landing to avoid extreme wear of the brakes.

  • That's flippen intense!! I neva knew those pistons could go in to "reverse"! Can anyone confirm that this aerie's reg is ZS-MUL??..what's her story?

  • @Sdwr87 Hi SDwr87, google "historic flight angie baby", first link. And the pistons don't really go in reverse, it's just the prop blade angle that changes to give reverse thrust :)

  • @CTFlyer7 Thanks, I'm fully aware that the props don't actually reverse their rotation, hence the inverted commas...i just didn't think pistons of that era were designed with a feature that i more commonly associated with turbo-props!..brilliantly timed landing - excellent flying!

  • @CTFlyer7 What do you think Jets or Turboprops do? Reverse the engine rotation?!

  • @CTFlyer7 they dont change to give reverse thrust either.. its Varible Pitch..

  • @CTFlyer7 TurboProp does the same, right?

  • @CTFlyer7 pretty sure those are turboprops

  • @klikhalno Nope, they are definitely pistons (radials). You can hear them at the end idling. Like CTFlyer said, it's just the prop blade angle going into reverse. Not exactly common on modern piston aircraft, but standard equipment on the DC-6

  • @lowanfast yeah beta is rare on pistons - I've wondered about that. Maybe it's only on ones with a gearbox to take the load both ways?

  • 0:43 z lewej na dole :D

  • Wow! Isn't that dust bad for the engines?

  • @johanbeyl

This airplane is made to cope with harsh situations, sure the dust could clog up some parts, maybe the air filters.. But it's fine.

  • Congratulations!!

I saw this beauty with friends in January 2008 in Swartkop , nice to see her flying again! Hope to see ZS-MUL soon again ;)

    Wielkie brawa!
