  • Thanks fourfinger! I know you "got it"!

  • This is great Brian! There's nothing wrong with wearing your influences on your sleeve. Great music is still great music and you have some serious chops going on :) Compositionally this reminded me a little bit of early Pat Metheny et al. Lovely stuff. Subscribed :)

  • What amp are you using here? Great playing!

  • one of the best things about youtube is to find such great talent as yourself Brian! Great feel and phrasing. Lovely solo and nicely composed , not just jivin' on some riffs. You are truly a master of the bass and i love the vintage fender sound. Very nice music from your mind. Wish you the best from fellow jazz bassist here in houston. Warm regards,

    Sri Viswanath

  • @sri888 Thank you so much sri888! Reading this helps make it all worthwhile! I really appreciate it! Hope it's all good and thanks again! I get to Houston on occasion, we should hook up!

  • Damn. I love this video.

  • To all the haters. Brian does NOT think he's Jaco. He can play at a level few can play at, and was influenced by those who can (including Jaco) as well. I was lucky enough to play some gigs with him (in a strange "rock" band) and to watch him get people in the audience losing their minds at jazz flavored wild soloing (at a rock gig) only reinforces the fact that great talent shines in any setting. He turned people on to outside, aggressive playing in a rock/funk setting..

    I miss that band.

  • @brianlemert Thanks Brian. Checks in the mail!

  • @brianlemert

well it's a fact that he wears the same kind of ugly sweaters as jaco

  • @MakeTeaNotWar0 Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Check voided!

  • @brianderek I wear the same kind of sweaters. love them - it's the mark of a bassplayer

  • Thank you so much magnifico!!

  • magnifico! =0]

  • To the negative comments.... who cares if Brian dresses like Jaco?? Maybe it's a tribute or just a coincidence...no mattah. Listen to the playing! Beautiful!

  • @micvelo Thank you micvelo!

  • Very good playing indeed.

  • @GalaxyDaveD A 1,000 thank you's!

  • great playin dude, all negative comments , let em go in one ear and out the other. Once again, great playing. j

  • very nice, i wish as was as good a player as you.

  • hey man you is not jaco , i love jaco but this is ridiculous , be your self is very dificulty for many people who dont have personality!!

  • I love Jaco's music and your playing is great.....but to dress like him distracts from the playing. What's wrong with being yourself. Next you'll shave your eyebrows and have duct tape on your knees.

  • Turns in his grave more like! Jaco II plays Havona II

  • Jaco lives!

  • Bravo!

  • Jaco Pastorius II

  • jacoooooooooo

  • Thank you my friend, Antonio!

  • great playing man this is an awesome song. a little to much like jaco to be original though. LONG LIVE FENDER

  • Actually, I've always thought this was more like a Metheny tune but....it does not resemble a jaco or Metheny tune to my knowledge but thanks anyway.

  • sweet dreams around jaco...

  • Your look reminds me of jaco, but your playing and technique is quite different and so is your melody. Very sweet! Cheers

  • great stuff, love your tone. I see your using the 360, what is that below that and what is the cabinet your using?

your past student tyler c. cheers!

  • Hey Tyler, how are you?

.......the 360 ended up having tech problems, so I just used my Sansamp pre-amp. The rack below has a parametric eq, a BBS sonic maximizer w/a GK amp. The cab is a Hartke 1x15.

The 65 has that warm growl, bass heaven!

    Nice to hear from you.

    Keep playin`!

  • Yes - I love this song! Beautiful sound all round, the bass playing is top class!

  • very nice tone

  • Great to hear someone who doesnt slap and tap all the time - real great bass playing, warm tone and beautifully executed!

    Nice tune as well!

  • Much appreciated alembicbassguy!

I never was into slapping, I prefer "real" notes. Melody has always been very important to me.

    Thanks for watching!

  • i agree with that its hard to get into slapping

  • very nice bassplaying....respect! i deliberate defretting my jazz bass ;)

  • Thanks man!

....and I highly recommend it (de-fretting that is)!

  • Thanks todds7, thank you for hearing!

  • Supah! NOT Jaco-like, and hey that's ok isn't it? Sounds like that cat... uh, Brian Derek!

    Very pleasant listening.
