Personally, I think Pat O'Brien from Cannibal corpse, Chris Broderick, and Tosin Abasi are some of the best ever.

There are only a certain amount of notes from the standard scales, in particular in metal where the use of chromatic and pentatonics feature mainly. I guarentee that Pantera could cover whatever you asked given an appropriate time to listen to the song, in my opinion. Maybe you need to give credit without many bands before them bands like Death would not have been either

One major skill that many musicians lack compared to the pros is ENDURANCE. It is one thing to be able to play a song or riff, but it is a whole other thing to perform them good enough live with no pauses or mistakes while being up to speed. Try to play almost any Slayer song without breaking a sweat, it's damn near impossible.

Pantera is great and I love them but in all honesty, they couldnt cover a Necrophagist song. For Example 'Only Ash Remains'

There are only a certain amount of notes from the standard scales, in particular in metal where the use of chromatic and pentatonics feature mainly. I guarentee that Pantera could cover whatever you asked given an appropriate time to listen to the song, in my opinion. Maybe you need to give credit without many bands before them bands like Death would not have been either

One major skill that many musicians lack compared to the pros is ENDURANCE. It is one thing to be able to play a song or riff, but it is a whole other thing to perform them good enough live with no pauses or mistakes while being up to speed. Try to play almost any Slayer song without breaking a sweat, it's damn near impossible.

i would think it would be general knowledge for anyone who knows about dimebag to realise that if it wasnt for kerry king and slayer in general, Dimebag and pantera wouldn't have actually become the band everyone knows and loves them for. Dimebag knew kerry was an awesome guitar player and respected him , he maybe isnt the most technicly skilled but he along with jeff can write thrash songs better than anyone can. I think Dimebag's opinion of guitarists is probably in higher regard than yours.

I'm aware pantera was around long before CFH but it's pretty well known that it was thrash and specifically his new friendship with Kerry which made him take the dramatic turn away from glam and go towards his thrashed based groove. It was even Phil who said that this encounter with Kerry was the moment that changed Dime's and Pantera's music style.
