For those unfamiliar with Rob Cosman, he is a good teacher and has great hand-tool skills, cutting some of the finest hand-cut dovetails you will see. His videos are very helpful, and if you ever get a chance to take a class with him or attend a seminar, DO IT!!! It is a great opportunity to see someone so talented work with wood, and you are sure to take away a lot from the experience.
He's also a really nice guy from what I've heard, will really go the distance to help you understand things
You took the face off the drawer-front before you dovetailed? Then glued it back after cutting a through dovetail? That's cheating... Well, not cheating, but it isn't the way to cut a 'lap' or half blind dovetail Rob. I guess if you cockbeaded the drawer afterwards, then no one would know!
He didn't use an applied front on the joint he showed there. In his prior video (DVD) he demonstrated how to make a drawer appear to have half blind dovetails by using an applied front over a standard through dove-tail. This is actually a very good technique, as you can use high figured woods for drawer fronts and use "regular" wood for the drawer frames. This way you can get all the drawer fronts by resawing one piece of 12/4 and end up with all matching drawer fronts. Looks AWESOME!!
