  • great song it gives me chill when johnny sings it, cash is king!

  • Tom Petty wrote this for Johnny I really do believe this

  • Great cover, as good as the original in its own way, maybe better.

  • Ive always been proud to be Southern I ve got rebel blood too, three ancestors in the Confederate Army

  • I come from New Zealand and make a point of pointing out to people when I'm travelling that I'm just a Southern Boy from the South Pacific.

  • I've lived out West for over 30 years, but I make sure I never try to cover up my Tidewater, Virginia accent.

    And I still love Jesus.

  • Wow. Johnny's the Man. Thanks for posting this superb performance.

  • I'm so proud of my Southern accent !

  • a beautiful song sung by a beautiful man..it brings tears to me' eyes.

    LOVE from Memphis.

  • this is really great. thanks for posting it,

i do have to say im a yankee girl with a southern man and his drawl...gets him out of a lot of trouble LOL

  • I'm English and I wish I had a Southern - the American Deep South that is - accent :(

  • Come see us, Horatio, we'll hook you up.

  • Don't worry I intend to at some point :D I'm a country boy in my soul. Dixieland is the place to be.

  • An english accent is really cute! :-)

  • This song is terrific! No-one can touch Johnny. The man is a

    Legend!

  • Very very good job! Well done!

  • I don't have a heavy southern accent. Nor does my Mother but she does say things like,"Well,I do declare, you don't say!" Recently when my oldest Daughters marriage ended, she was overwhelmed with the prospect of being a single Mother to two little boys. Mother said,"Tell her that her Grandmother said, hold her head-up,stiffen her backbone & remember where she came from. She'll be just fine!":o) I'm a Southern Woman. Rebel blood runs through my veins. I may be a Lady but the rebel still remains!

  • Well put. Almost brought a tear to my eye. Made me think of my grandmother.

  • hell yeah lil lady

i'm pretty fond of my accent and my southern charm *hat tip*

  • @LetTheSCRebelsYell Rebel Pride outweighs any pride, especially them yankees.

  • This was from the American Recordings... which was a series of albums produced by Rick Rueben. Tom Petty and I believe his band did the majority of the instrumentals.

It's truly a piece of art with so much talent. There were all sorts of other artists who took place... Johnny Cash will be missed.

  • Wow! pretty good...but not Petty good.

  • petty actually said this was the best recording he ever made

  • Petty actually played on this cover

  • i love cash. this cover is alright. but tom's voice is alot different. its raspy. its scratchy. i like this song when its sung by tom better.

  • I actually invented a new restaurant called "Tom and Johnny's" featuring music written by Tom Petty and as sung by Johnny Cash wow that would be a great idea.

  • Weren't Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers the musicians for some of Cash's American albums?

  • for unchained they were his band

  • That was American II, the electric one. Yes, I remember reading about that.

  • i love this song by petty but johnny song is good tom / johnny

  • cash doesn't put petty to shame by the way. Thats a stupid thing to say.

  • an excellent cover of tom petty. both of them are just magnificent musicians.

  • Petty should be proud that a legend like CASH covered his song(s)

  • Is it possable that Johnny covered this song because he, himself, is a Petty fan?.

  • Petty wrote this masterpeice. I don't think he has anything to be ashamed about.

  • Petty has nothing to be shamed of. Cash cover is great, as all he did. Cash is a legend, and Tom is as well. In fact, Petty helped Johnny during the American Recordings period. They were friends. I don't know why you people have to attack Petty just to defend Cash. It makes no sense to me. Both are giants.

  • WORD!

  • love your work.... cash was amazing

  • yeah we know, Johnny almost only did covers in that period, but i like the song, so i usend it. du-uh

  • but the covers are soooooo genius....love all of them...mostly ^^

  • this is actually a song by tom petty called southern accents.. johnny's just covering it

  • Magnificent, thanks from Orlando, where the orange trees used to grow.

  • i like this video yeah the man in black no.1 thanks for sharing
