I don't have a heavy southern accent. Nor does my Mother but she does say things like,"Well,I do declare, you don't say!" Recently when my oldest Daughters marriage ended, she was overwhelmed with the prospect of being a single Mother to two little boys. Mother said,"Tell her that her Grandmother said, hold her head-up,stiffen her backbone & remember where she came from. She'll be just fine!":o) I'm a Southern Woman. Rebel blood runs through my veins. I may be a Lady but the rebel still remains!
This was from the American Recordings... which was a series of albums produced by Rick Rueben. Tom Petty and I believe his band did the majority of the instrumentals.
It's truly a piece of art with so much talent. There were all sorts of other artists who took place... Johnny Cash will be missed.
I actually invented a new restaurant called "Tom and Johnny's" featuring music written by Tom Petty and as sung by Johnny Cash wow that would be a great idea.
Petty has nothing to be shamed of. Cash cover is great, as all he did. Cash is a legend, and Tom is as well. In fact, Petty helped Johnny during the American Recordings period. They were friends. I don't know why you people have to attack Petty just to defend Cash. It makes no sense to me. Both are giants.
great song it gives me chill when johnny sings it, cash is king!

I've lived out West for over 30 years, but I make sure I never try to cover up my Tidewater, Virginia accent.
And I still love Jesus.

Petty should be proud that a legend like CASH covered his song(s)

Is it possable that Johnny covered this song because he, himself, is a Petty fan?.
