  • Love the eagle--made my day.

  • @clemshaw On a chip, I assume the focus is still on the target, as in the full swing? Is there any difference in your focus between the chip and full swing? Absolutely love your videos and products.

  • @wadesworld2112 Yes, in the full swing I am focused on the flight of the ball; where is it going to start and where it is going to end...In chipping, you look for the where you are going to land and then figure out which club you need that will allow the ball to roll, take the break and fall into the hole; when over the ball, you are focused on how much momentum you need to drop the ball on that spot. Shawn

  • SIR I VERY MUCH ENJOY YOUR TUTORIAL VIDEOS. I AM A DISABLED VET AND BEGAN HITTING GOLF BALLS FOR EXERCISE THIS SUMMER. AFTER A COUPLE OF WKS I PLAYED SOME GOLF. YOU HAVE BEEN MY GOLF INSTRUCTOR THROUGHOUT. NOW I AM SHOOTING 80-85 AND REALLY ENJOY THE GAME. I WANT U TO KNOW U HAV TRULY BEEN A BLESSING TO ME. I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO PLAYING GOLF AND COMPETING AS WELL. IT IS A PROUD FEELING TO TEL PEOPLE I HAVE A 10-12 H-CAP. THEY DONT BELIEVE ME WEN I TEL EM I STARTED THIS SUMMER!!! TKS

  • Shawn, can you provide some tips on chipping with longer clubs? I like to use my 7 and 6 iron, depending how much roll out i want, but the length of the club is throwing me off as far as the setup you recommend here...Thanks!

  • 55 likes vs. 0 dislikes. one clue that this video kicks butt!

  • Shawn. Thanks for being the only real human being instructor on youtube.

  • is that a falcon shawn?

    ty

  • Sean, What do you think of Phil mickelson's hinge and hold?

  • @Halloroj It amounts to the same thing basically; he presses forward a bit, then hinges a bit more and comes back with lower case Y; I start and stay with lower case Y; if you overdo the hinge and hold, you change the low point of the swing and then you need to manipulate the swing to make up for the difference; Shawn

  • @clemshaw shawn, completely unrelated. I am a long time fan of yours. Only critique I have is that you do not show us EVER which clubs you are using in your videos! It would be nice if you could not only tell us which club you're using for any given video, but maybe even go "deeper into the rabbit hole" and show a long mid and short iron in same cases just to show the different plane angles for different clubs. No word of a lie I'm 100% visual. I can learn just by watching!

  • I have had problems with hitting my chips thin and fat.i

  • I have had problems with my

  • Shawn,

Can you please do another on the pitch stroke please? The last one was done on a windy day!

    Thanks,

    Jim B

  • @MsBrennan18 Will do! Shawn

  • Shawn, I love your videos they have helped me tremendously. I notice in this video your head is moving vertically. Can you comment on the proper feeling regarding the head movement in this swing?

  • @srfbig YESSS! Very important to allow!! Please see my following titles: "Create serious speed; Shawn Clement", "One leg and feet together update; Shawn Clement", "Horse shoes and Lassos; Shawn Clement", "Rhythm of the world; Shawn Clement", "Arms and body; Shawn Clement" and "Stop Crashing; Shawn Clement"

  • 4:21, sean foley copied your one leg drill...too bad

  • @onkai It is actually good awareness for viewers; he does not do it as well or as soundly as my "golf pro lesson one leg swing no weightshift" drill video; but it is a step in the right direction for golf! The feet together to step through impact was done ok too! That one is from my "golf pro lesson sequence power drills" video; Shawn

  • I'd used to be a streaky at chipping and putting but adopt a very similar method as Shawn and its one area where my game has improved, just need to sort out and have a reliable full swing

  • Wow now that's what I call an Eagle! I've been fortunate to record only one in my entire golf history (a 50 yrd chip an run)! Thanks for sharing that moment :-)

  • Eagle's a gravity expert too

  • Hi Shawn. Still trying to come to terms with the short game.

Do the grip and wrists need to be very firm to maintain the lower case "y". If they are less than firm the wrists tend to get a small hinge in the backswing. It could be a minor crash also?

    Thanks.

  • @mjs0039 Lower case y is very relaxed and does not need much tone to stay in place as there is no obstruction to DIVERT IT OFF LINE;

You just need to FEEL HOW the weight stays onto the front side BY ALLOWING THE BODY TO SWIVEL OVER THE FRONT HIP; see "golf pro lesson feel the short swing" and "golf pro lesson coordinating arm motion with body turn" I show the chip and pitch in the second half...Shawn

  • Hi Shawn, You are very good at keeping the body out of the way.It becomes very difficult for us mortals to do that. If I move the body out of the way it invariably is more than needed. If I try a small chip, I hit the ground before the ball. In trying to move the body out of the way, the weight also shifts to the back foot and results into crashing/insanity. Should the club face point to the sky at finish. The video coordinating body turn with arm swing is also not turning on the light.

  • Gravity !!!!!!!!!! Who would ever have thought that gravity would be my key to enjoying this game so much now.Hey Shawn , how do I convince the masses? They look at me in a weird kind of way when I say its all down to gravity."listen to the club" Best bit of swing advice EVER(for me) Nothing good happens if I dont listen to the club. Mind you , I like the weird looks when my 8 iron is effortlessly hit to the pin from 150.Love this game now.

Thanks again Shawn for another well explained Vid

  • @67thatwastheyear

Thanks for the great comment! It's great when there is no fight with the swing; it just flows and falls into place and feels like it was meant to be swung that way. Bliss!

    Shawn

  • the bird part was nice

  • Really enjoy your videos and tips Shawn. I'm impressed with the quality. Need to look into that camera. Are you using a wireless mic?

  • Great video again Shawn. What do you think of the 'spinner' technique used by quite a few pros to 'throw darts' around the greens? I have been varying my chips between your gravity arm club unit chip technique and the spinner technique but would love to hear your opinion on which you prefer and whether you ever use the spinner? The advantage to the spinner as i see it is that you have greater distance control through use of arms and hands only and the consistent contact of picking the ball

  • completely off topic but whatever. any word from the golf channel?

  • Thanks for the tips. This short game tip and the garage door tip for my driver both worked well on the range today. Looking forward to putting them in play next week, and trying some of the others as needed!

  • Q: How many ADD Golfers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

    A: Oh look, there's a bird...!

That was a classic Shawn. ;-)

Shawn

  • Thanks

Shawn, I am now golfing for just over a year and your video have made me see progress in my game thanks so much. Birds of prey are just the best. Had a Red Fox come to visit on the course the other day, all stretched out in the tall watching us chip up. He was only fifteen feet away. thanks for sharing.

    Matt

  • Great video!

Its not in HD tho, only 360p

  • @spankbutt123 It was a bit too long for HD...sorry about that!

    Shawn

  • Very interesting video, spotted various things I can tweak in my own chipping to get the blade skipping through like it used to...so thanks! I'm curious though: what do you think about bounce? I went for a low bounce 60 but suspect I may have been more consistent with my previous standard bounce 60...what are the trends on tour with bounce these days?

  • @TheDistilledMan My new wedge configuration is 50, 54, 58 and 62; the 62 has 10 degrees bounce and the 58 has the same but has the "C" grind sole which removes the back edge of the sole in the toe and heel for less drag in flop shots and sand shots; truly a great design that Ping came out with over 20 years ago in their eye 2 sand wedges; Everywhere Phil Mickelson goes, he has his club guys make him one; Yonex, Titleist, Callaway, all have them...

  • @clemshaw Makes sense, sounds like I could splay the face open but that it would better resist twisting on impact with the ground. I shall investigate a less sharp bounce with the C grind. Much obliged my good man, much obliged!

  • It's a good man who can stop what he's doing to appreciate a wonder of nature. Shawn, as they say in Ohio: 'your head is screwed on right.'

    Thanks!

  • Another great lesson Shawn , thank you. I really love your approach to teaching the game and you've certainly helped me to get better.

    Regards

  • Thanks again, Shawn, for sharing your God-given talents with us. By the way, what type of bird was that?

  • @jkpassage Red Tailed Hawk I think; They are gaining in numbers around these parts; bad news for the rats!! :) Shawn

  • And we were interacting about all this(chips and short chips) only yesterday.
