Yes, Arch Enemy is real metal, it's melodic and extremely heavy. Too way better than Sadus, Destruction, Possessed, Vulcano, Helhammer, Bathory and Sarcofago. These bands are just noise without any technique. You have to know about music to make a metal song, and Arch Enemy knows about it.

I dont hate Angela, I thought Wages of Sin was a good album but everything after that bored the shit out of me, I like the stuff with johan better. The point im trying to make is she cant and never will do a good job singing the stuff that he did. Johan has the fast-paced old-school vocal pattern while Angela has the well enunciated vocal style. To get as good as they are you have to practice very very hard, they would not do that unless they had a very strong passion for what they are doing which to me is alot more genuine than some rabid idiot obsessing about the fact that they dont wear enough spikes or leather.

As I said right at the start, metal is just a genre of music and like any other genre it has its defining characteristics which make it what it is, Arch enemy undoubtably follow these characteristics and are thus metal, just because you dont like the way they look and dress (or that there is a girl the band, oh NO!) it changes nothing.

Arch Enemy is melo-death, as Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Kalmah, Hypocrisy, At the Gates, and a lot of more bands. I love melodic death metal. And Arch Enemy does it well, as Dark Tranquillity, they are not comercial. The only comercial on melo-death is the new records of In Flames.

I have a lot of respect for the old death metal stuff, i love altars of madness from morbid angel, and tomb of the mutilated from cannibal corpse, but you have to understand, that A.E is melo-death

@linkinn18 arc enemy was a good metal band, only black earth are really good, but wages of sin(and after it) is very bad album, nemesis , my apocalipsis in my opinion are bullshit, arch enemy lost .... i like obsculum obssenum of hypocrisy, entombed, some works of edge of sanity and at the gates are really good, the first album of dark tranquility is good, well,....one band really good in melodic metal is dissection, "the somberlain" and "storm´s of the light´s bane" are master pieces....

I like the new one more, but i still prefere the old american death metal (not melodic). But anyway, you cant call A.E an commercial band. In my opinion, even my dying bride, katatonia and therion (that are bands that really dont have a heavy sound), they are not commercial.

Commercial is something like avenged sevenfold, bullet for my valentine, sonic Syndicate, indica, the new within temptation, lacuna coil...

@DEAD666able metal doesnt have to sound like shit and be "underground" to fit the metal genre. people who stay away from trends musically, are themselves, part of a different but very real trend.you should like what you like because it sounds good OR has a good message. if ANYTHING other than the actual music itself (record deals, fame, money) influences whether you like a band or not than you cant call yourself a music fan.
