I totally agree with you! Before I saw it, I heard that the Twins were racist. I saw it and I didnt think they were racist. I thought they were hilarious! And if you think about it, Jazz was the same in the 1st film, and no one said anything!
i cant believe u said that u never heard a black person say "MeSa".....have u ever seen ROOTS...the shit's gotta end...i mean of coarse u'll be like..I REALLY DIDNT SEE A PROBLEM WITH IT....bcuz they werent bean eattin, fotbol(football or soccer) playin and listenin 2 SALSA music...now see how rasist that jus SOUNDED...now picture it on a big screen right in front of u...and u see other races jus laughin away...WAKE THE FUCK UP...smh...and im only a 19yr old NIGGA lol
Do you know what a Minstrel show is? It was a 19th century comedy act that had Black faced actors that made fun of African-Americans.
You know what's a funny correlation between that and Transformers 2? The further South you go in America the more people say/said it was funny.
The fact remains that the portrayal of these robots as Ignorant, clumsy, jive talking, big eared and bucktoothed is pretty much the black stereotype pervading the entire 500 years of racial bigotry in entertainment.
No one expects Oscar winning performances, but if the acting is not believable then the actors might as well be replaced with a couple of Muppets. Second, the racist robots, I can see how it might have offended people; I'm sure if there was a robot that looked like a Lowrider (with hydraulics) and spoke street slang with a Mexican accent, I'm sure some people would be pissed. As for me, I'm still surprised people went to see the first movie.
the main actors are bad. they did not need to be dramatic actors to be good. Good acting does not mean dramatic acting. what they are saying and doing just had to be believable.
we don't need that type of characters. the 2 characters has been removed anyway.
THIS is the dumest ignorant shit ever....Its cause of this shit they wont be in part 3.. Racist my ass!!! Obviously it wasn't white or hispanic to complain.. so it is ok for the blacks to make fun of whites in their movies.. don't see them protesting.. Bring Skids And Mudflap back!!!
shit ever....Its cause of this shit they wont be in part 3.. Racist my ass!!! Obviously it wasn't white or hispanic to complain.. so it is ok for the blacks to make fun of whites in their movies.. don't see them protesting.. Bring Skids And Mudflap back!!!
On to your argument. I think the robots are racist, heres why.
1) they speak the stereotypical street talk and one bot has a gold tooth, now wait. I know you covered this, but you continue on arguing that it is EVERYONE else that is racist for associating these traits to African Americans. Here is where I believe you are wrong. A stereotype is a simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group.
The key here is "Held in common by members of a group" So if many people found the two characters to be racist, that means that it has been held in common by members of a group, namely many Americans. Since it IS, and those people believe it to be a black stereotype then it IS a stereotype.
As for Airplane. That movie was made in a different social context than what we are living in today. The point is, yeah it wasn't criticized because it was 30 years ago, standards have changed.

The problem we have here is someone obviously blows a subject way out of proportion.Years and years of parodied characters and we come down to this? How many years Caucasian people have tolerated the jokes by black comedians in TV,Movies and the like be berated negatively in skit after skit "for the sake of humor".They never say a word about being insulted and many times they will still buy a ticket to the movie or tune in to the T.V. show,
They do not see the harm in laughing at themselves
Now lets see..........why do people think that the bots are a black stereotype? Do some african american people from urban areas speak that way? If so it is clearly not a stereotype, its a reality. However they are ROBOTS for F*** sake, not humans. theyre robots that talk in urban slang.........thats it, my god, next time I see a white guy who talks all prim and proper like a pompus prick in a movie im going to go off on a rant that its a WHITE STEREOTYPE.
the media says theyre making fun of black people, whin in reality the media is too dumb to realize that theyre really just making fun of gangsters and white trash. if you think about it the media is being racist themselves and literally saying " all black people are gangsters " which is untrue. thank for being so stupid media. you just ruined the greatest transformers ever . i say that becuase i often notice that when i go to target the transformers that i see most are skids and mudflap >:( >:O
I hated the charactors, I dont think they were racist but I just didnt understand why an alien robot would talk street and have a gold tooth. I know the movie isn't supposed to be realistic but they just ruined the whole experience for me, the first film was far better in my opinion.
@Turkey426224 You obviously didn't watch the first movie. Their native language isn't English when they come to Earth EITHER. They ADAPT.. the same way they choose what object they want to transform into. They could have crashed down near a highschool and saw a million teenagers of every race talking that way.. and chose to have those personalities.
I personally thought the characters were funny.. along with the mob boss decepticon Megan Fox captures. But I'm white. I'm probably racist.
When youre part of a discriminated minority who experiences racism all the time youre more likely to see these kind of Hollywood stereotypes as racism. If youre from the other end of the scale youll find its impossible to understand, and see these kinds of stereotypes as harmless fun.
i havent heard any black people ever talk like skids and mudflips maybe its because i live in california and black people dont talk like that here. it seems like they took most extreme stereotype in black culture and exploited it. i mean come on a purple beat up ice cream truck talking like fred sanford , hilarious.
exactly thats exaclty the emotion they want you to feel when u experience moronic slap stick characters that take away from the movie. this is just another jar jar binks.
when i first heard their names mudflaps and skids i thought of a big lipps mudflaps is slang for big lips skids reminded me of that stain you get in your underwear skid mark. lol what about the moronic italian robot. decepticon send him on a job he ends up screwing it up and then ratting them out to save his ass.
but when white actors play naruto do they , do they make fun of their culture by acting ignorant and not pronouncing words right in english with a japanese dialect, I think not. 2 black actors doing the voice of 2 robots that just happened idiotic and ghetto is no coincidence lets not be naive. just the turncoat robot who sells out the decepticons happens to be your stereotypical dumb italian. the little doctor robot has a german accent kind of like hitler.
So are you telling me ignorance is part of black culture? For me to be properly raised as a black cultured man I must be ignorant?
Just because we associate these patterns of speech with a race doesn't mean we should. The pattern of speech comes from their person background and history. You can find many of these "sellout" like talkers in the black population too.
Ok ok...c'mon. The Twins were not "Black" stereotypes, they were "Urban" stereotypes. I know some "white" guys who ACTUALLY talk like that. My German-decended friends aren't raising a ruckus over Scapel's accent, nor are my family members with Brooklyn and Chicago roots pissed that Wheelie talked like a mob "rat". Then I ask: why are people so pissy about the Twin's stereotype? The TFs just embody extremes in our culture. Why does everything have to spin the rascist wheel? Garbage, imo...
@rckola2003 If their actions were the only thing about them that people identified as "black," I would call bullshit on that racism call. But these guys have big lips, big ears, and droopy sleepy eyes. They also looked a little ape-like, but maybe that doesn't apply. These were two black-faced cartoon characters. Coupled with giving them the worst kind of ignorant black stereotyping, it's a no-brainer that it's racist.
@dduval59 I talked to several inidividuals of African decent who were rather uspet that they left the Twins out of TF3...they felt that it was racist that they were not in the 3rd film. When they realized the Twins were axed because of the "stereotype" card, they themselves thought it was a load of bull.
So, racism can be relative? When some people of "that" ancestory think they were being racist for allowing them in the 2nd film, and other people say the reverse about TF3...who is right?
This is the dumest ignorant shit ever....Its cause of this shit they wont be in part 3.. Racist my ass!!! Obviously it wasn't white or hispanic to complain.. so it is ok for the blacks to make fun of whites in their movies.. don't see them protesting.. Bring Skids And Mudflap back!!!
Let me tell you what was racist, they killed Jazz in the first movie. I could give a crap about the comic relief black-bots, they made Jazz a gangsta and killed him. Jazz is black, but not a gangsta D:
Just because you, a "spanish" person who nonetheless LOOKS white, doesn't see racism, DOESN'T MEAN IT DOESN'T EXIST. It just means you haven't dealt with enough racism in your life to be cognizant of it.
Me and the majority of my family have had things done to use just because we are Puerto Ricans, my aunts and uncles ( all 11 ) have been attacked while they lived in NY because they were Puerto Rican ( this was in the 60s ) its a huge part of my family. I had a bully in elementary school make fun of me and beat me because I was Puerto Rican. My cousins have been insulted and bullied because they happen to be part Indonesian, so watch your FUCKING MOUTH WHEN YOU SAY SHIT LIKE THAT ABOUT ME!
4. "Just because some people believe it fulfills the black stereotype doesn't mean it is the black stereotype." Well, a stereotype is "a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or idea." So, since sooo many people thought that this stereotype targeted BLACK people as opposed to all the other races there are (approximately three, according to you, right?) it is, by definition categorizable as a "black stereotype."
"spanish" is a socially except able term, forgive me for not stating that im "hispanic" and that I use a commonly interchangeable word and was not entirely correct.
how many movies have portrayed the stereotypes of white blonde girls as complete idiots, or white gus with long hair as drug addicts?? no one cares about that.. but when someone sterotypes a urban african american all hell breaks loose and everything is racist..
you know what all you people who say transformers is racist... i think youre racist... never NEVER in the movie does it say that the twins are black! NEVER! i didnt even think of that as i watched it. i thought oh look theyre like two undereducated gangsters. SO by saying that they are black... its not micheal bay inflicting these stereo types upon black people. ITS YOU!
I don't think it's as black and white as you are making it. I think you contradict yourself somewhat by referencing the movie airplane. I thought it was a funny scene but in a world where black people in 2009 are still somewhat limited in the diversity of roles, I can understand how those characters would be frustrating to watch because they are clearly "portraying" those black men in that way.
also most people haven't been mentioning the burger king commercial where one says crackhead.
I'm an educated black person that graduated from college. I still use slang when around my friends because it is a comfortable way to talk and be friendly. Now I do believe that those characters in the movie were trying to portray an average black stereotype not only because of the language but because of the facial features. They have a thick lip and wide nose type of feature that is known to be black.
Maybe but not by much, the only reason people see many african americans as below the poverty line is due to the income divide of black people, most people don't realize but spanish people are areound the same percent impoverished but there arent a lot of spanich rappers with STUPID AMOUNTS OF MONEY that they can compare the broke spansh people to which makes them seem broker.
yea but those stereotypes are linked with black people dickhead, its comic relief that they are making fun of afrian americans? thats what a strereotype is, (false)characteristics of a group of people which are linked to a vast ethnic or cultural group. They were making fun of african americans. I understand what your saying but there were three stereotypes that are linked with black people. Slang as well as profanity, gold teeth and not being able to read, which are associated with blacks,
WRONG!!!!!!! Slang is connected to anyone form an "under-privileged" neighborhood and as for not being able to read thats definitely the stereotype for people, mainly whites who live in the deep south
I gotta jump in right here; You're right in a way and wrong in another. slang is associated with anyone who is not educated in the proper way to speak however certain types of slang are associated with different ethnic groups. You wouldn't expect an uneducated asian to speak like a hillbilly although there are exceptions. You wouldn't expect an uneducated black to speak spanglish. You would expect them to speak like the twins because that slang is reserved for inner city/urban American people
Most uneducated urban black people speak like that. But what makes it offensive is that educated urban blacks speak with that same accent but to a lower degree. Its the culture of the inner city just like speaking patois is the culture of the islands. Slang is just as much related to blacks as patois is related to Jamaicans. If you make fun of that particular cultural aspect people will draw a line of connection. If the twins spoke spanglish, latinos would be offended.
The acting was good thats bullshit first of all. As for the flap and skids it was rasict like rele rasict but I just tried to look around it and i enjoyed the moive.
You're reading into the fiction waaaaay too much. You cant view them as aliens from another planet or mice born and raised in Mexico and use that as your excuse. See them for what they are: fictional characters created by people. Every word they speak and everything they do is scripted. Where the character is from is completely irrelevant. I wasnt saying that the goodfeathers is a NEGATIVE stereotype.. I was simply pointing out that they are indeed a stereotype.
Im not in the back story that much considering this is all info given by the movie. But then again everything in movies is fictional & scripted & stereotypical. Movies, for the most part follow a set pattern that is very obvious even before you see the movie, (good beats evil, guy wins girl, guy saves world/people at last second etc) and almost all the characters in movies are just stereotypes, think hard and you will see what Im saying, people are just trying to find something to pick at
Yes its true that most characters in movies are stereotypes but when they cross the line and make them negative that's where it becomes a problem. Just because hollywood follows a pattern doesnt make it acceptable or right. Black people used to die 1st or most violently in every movie and people complained and it mostly stopped. But people like you complained that they were complaining. This is the same thing. If enough people complain about these mechanical minstrels this bafoonery will stop.
You cant say that they dont have ethnicities because they aren't real or because they're robots They've taken on human characteristics. For example look at Speedy Gonzales. He's a mouse yet he had the characteristics of a stereotypical Mexican. Thats why his cartoons were eventually banned. The goodfeathers on Animaniacs were birds, but its obvious that they portray the stereotypes of Italians. These characters have human characteristics and all the above were subliminal forms of racism.
Yes but those characters are from earth, meaning they may have been born in those areas and influenced by them. The transformers aren't from earth, its not like jazz lived in Harlem all his life, NO he live on an entirely different planet not influence by people. Hence Speedy Gonzales acting like a stereotypical Mexican, because he was probably born in Mexico, as for the goodfeathers, thats Steven Spielberg's parody of his friend, Martin Scorsese, being the Scorsese directed Good Fellas.
1) They were talking like stereotypical black people.
2) They had gold teeth like stereotypical black people.
3) At some point they said "We cant read!" "Nah, we dont do much readin" as opposed to we "dont understand this language" like the other robots.
4) In case you couldn't see how these characters were "black", they had a guy working in the butcher shop with jacked up gold teeth like the robot so you can make the connection.
What about Jazz in part 1? Remember the only bot that died? >_>
Now in anything else that wouldn't have bothered you, but in this it does, maybe its because they sound like white people acting black. One of them had a single gold tooth, if you want to stalk stereotypes, then stereotypicly black people would have grills, meaning all their teeth are gold not just a single one, Jazz on the other hand wasn't black, HE ACTED BLACK, the transformers don't have ethnicities like we do, and as for his death, shouldn't have jumped on Megatron
Dont assume that it wouldn't bother me in anything else, because it does. The bafoonery on BET, music videos, and subliminal or blatant racism in the media.. it bothers me but I usually keep it to myself and just encourage people to be tasteful and to have class. As far as your statement on grills, thats a stereotype rich ghetto black people and Gold teeth is a stereotype of poor ghetto black people. Its not one or the other.. they both are stereotypes.
Jazz was a silver and black car, that talked "black", who was forced to do what looks like break dancing in order to transform, and was played by a black voice actor. And you say that he shouldn't have jumped on megatron like it wasnt written into the script. It didnt just happen man.. they wanted him to die so they write him out of the script by killing him.
great review man, I'm glad that you explained it really well about this topic. Mudflap and Skid are comic relief, I think there funny as hell, and really like the twins characters.
Its called subliminal* racism dumbass. They make it racist enough so that you can see that its racist or make the connection but it subtle enough that it can make it to the mainstream
thank you for insulting me, even though it really wasn't necessary, and subliminal racism is bullshit, because people won't pay attention to shit like that and take it seriously.
(continued from previous post)Why is the assumption made that the two robot characters have to be a mockery of Blacks just because they have gold teeth, speak in urban slang, are incapable of reading, and are prone to malapropisms? This type of behavior and look is part of the youth culture of all races (White, Black, Latin American, and Asian). What you are demonstrating is your own racial prejudice.
Anyone who levies the criticism that the two robots in the movie (called the twins) is a racist caricature is actually revealing his own racist assumptions about people, than any actual racist implications by the makers of this movie (continued)
(continued from previous post) What is essentially happening is that these people are engaging in film snobbery. They are applying rules of logic and plausibility that they would never apply to their beloved Star Trek or Star Wars, even though any critical eye could point out just as many absurdities with the plot and acting in those film franchises as they do with the Transformers.
(continued from previous post) People are clearly overanalyzing the various implausible parts that are interwoven into the story to make it work. If you look at any work of fiction with that fastidious eye for logical coherence, then no work of science fiction would be enjoyable. These same critics enjoyed Star Trek (like I did), but they did not let the implausible fact that every alien from every planet and DIMENSION could speak English deter them from enjoying the film (continued).
It confounds me how critical people are of a movie, which is based on action figures/cartoon about morphing robots from the 1980's. How much quality, in terms of acting/storyline, do you expect from such source material? There are certain movies where you should expect Oscar worthy performances, and an intricate and engaging storyline. This is one of those movies where you shouldn't have such lofty expectations. You go to it for the visual spectacle, which it delivers in spades (continued).
i agree with everything especially when you said not all blacks act like you know thugs gang bangers and stuff like that im from detroit and ppl who seen this movie dont think it isnt racist we know its all for jokes so we laughed about it
The exact point in Transformers 1 when it went down in flames was when Optimus said, "My bad." Fuck Bay for killing my favorite childhood toys and TV show and fuck Transformers 2 for existing in the same space and time as me and everyone else that grew up on Transformers that hate the goddamn movies.
well that's because the majority of the people down south are cousin kissin tobacco shewing in-breds, so of couse they thought it was funny. it would take them an hour to realize their dumbasses are being made fun of.
I'm a black dude from Philly, to me the twins was funny it might have been a little racist but we all make fun of each others race through comedy. Some people just take shit more serious than others. All the actors in the movie was good, but you made some real good points on that shit my nigga I couldn't said it better my self.
wow 80% of alle the comments are from you. you really should find something else to do than talking about things you clearly dont know anything about.. <3<3<3<3
first off i guess i sort of understand where you're coming from but i found absoluely nothing funny about it as a black person i understand stereotypical racism but really few people these days are illiterate and cus and fight all the time like sure me and my brothers and friends argue but as far as fighting each other it's really not that common i men i didn't like ahow the characters were portrayed but as i've said i found the scene about them claiming to be illiterate very offensive
Great outlook, i also put up a vlog on my page about the twin bots, I hope people dont take it serious i was just being funny following the lame bandwagon lol please watch if you like!!!!! everyone
Public service announcement sids and mudflaps are not racist they r just characters. And by saying that they portray blacl people u r then saying that all black cant read, have gold teeth and talk with slang. Ifs thats the case then u are the racists ones not micheal bay or the two characters and should reevaluate how u look at people.
I must say dude, of all the responses to Mudflap and Skids, yours is the best I've heard so far. You make an excellent point on the subject and I agree with you 100 %.
they can read, just not cybertronian. And why dont people talk about Ironhide? Hes "racist". He comes off as a Texan with the cowboy hat, being a truck and just itching to pull that trigger. But no one says anything about that. I believe that people who see racism are often racist themselves, if not more than the normal person. because we are all racist against other cultures and our own to a certain degree.
ok then lemme put it like this then.... calling something racist thats "fantasy" is stupid because there is rascist crap in t.v. show, games abd other movies and i dont hear shit bout it.
Okay. So I guess if I made a fantasy movie about how much I hate jewish people it'd be okay since there's a bunch of other racist stuff on TV that people don't complain about.
That's retarded.
Just because people aren't complaining doesn't make it right.
Skids and mudflap are not racist. My reasons for saying this. 1.) I know white people that talk and act like that. 2.) Not even Wheelie could read it. It took one of the oldest transformers to read it. It was as the twins said "OLD SCHOOL" as in way before they existed. 3.) As tko said in the video its how you look at it. I saw black yes black people laughing their asses off at the movie. If you cannot get over how they acted thats your problem.
Hollywood has been using blacks as comic relief for leading white actors for years. The two robots are the robot equal of those exploited black actors. Look at all the black/white buddy movies. The robots are stereotypes simple and plain. It's sad that some people don't see it, it's even sadder that others choose not to.
@jakeisurpimp: bro these bitches cry about stereotypes, and being called nigger but here they are calling eachother nigger, or nigga (same fucking thing)
Ummm...what does that have to do with whether or not this movie has racist stereotypes? All you're doing is the tu quo fallacy---'oh well since they do the same thing sometimes, then this is alright'
He is cute. Just had to get that out of the way. But i agree with what it said. Its an action movie and what do people expect to see ACTION. I cant speak for Americans since I'm from the Caribbean but to say that its a negative stereotype against black people is stupid because I don't talk like that and I'm sure black people from other nations don't talk like that.
Stereotypes are generalizations based on a group of people. The fact that they're generalizations pretty much means most of the people in that group won't act like that.
if they had a an autobot speaking spanish and turned into a fucking lawnmower would u say that that wasnt racist? they r supposed to be raceless robots from outerspace. why would they have gold teeth? why were they the only ones who were speaking ebonics? WHY COULDNT THEY FUCKING READ? SMH at everyone who says this isnt racist...
when people say "oh it's just a summer action movie leave it alone - it doesn't matter if the actors were fucking shit!"
YES IT DOES.
aliens, batman, jurassic park, jaws, indiana jones, star wars etc were all summer action movies and for the most part they had good performances in them. many of them also stand on their own as "good films".
we're not expecting something like fucking taxi driver - but it don't think that something at least as good as Temple of Doom is TOO much to ask for.
You obviously don't know enough about the history of racial stereotyping and discrimination in the entertainment industry to comment.
Those characters---to the letter---follow the guidelines for a minstrel shows.
I guess you think it's okay that there's ONE general stereotype for blacks. Whites get several...and most are positive. Blacks get ONE, and it is wholly negative.
why, i guess dat is bad, i mean i hav best firends who are black, some are asian, some are spnish, one is irish, but they are all great friends, so it really doesn't matter wat a racist wud say anyway
imagine if you went to a club with your mixture of friends you just described...and the music you heard while there was offensive to you. all the songs talked about negative steriotypes of your race. but soon as you shared it with your friends, they made you feel dumb for being offended because THEY werent, or because noone else at the club did. i respect anyones feelings whether i feel the same or not. thats what non-partisan ppl do. dont be partial to your own views. try to understand someone.
its like this, if i go to see a movie that i KNOW is going to be dealing with racist issues (ex. Mississippi Burning, Gran Torino) then i am prepared and i kno what im getting into. but if i come to the theater with my family and im blindsided by the cgi equivalent to "Black sambo" then that is WRONG. how would a white person feel if they come to see a Hot Wheels movie and all the "white characters" represented negative caucasian steriotypes? the film probably would be pulled from theatres.
you dont have a clue what youre talkin bout dude. having a white and black friend doesnt make you an expert. im african-american. i found this VERY offensive. comic relief is NOT AN EXCUSE to be racist. bottom line. it doesnt matter if all black ppl are like that. this movie is an action movie, not a comedy. therefore it should be more tactful. nobody should have to "put up" with nothing like this just because racist ppl have the money to put it together. wake up and smell the "sambots"
So no, Transformers is NOT racist.. Infact racism textbook definition word by word includes examples such as hate crimes. Not a summer blockbuster with two robots people assume are black. PLUS, No one proved they were black. They could've been 'Wanksters" People overreact about this stuff. They just want a reason to rip on a perfectly good movie and hope someone follows theyre example so they can feel special. Sad But True.
not so much racism as it is just ignorance, if it were racism then they would hole heartedly believe that thats how black people are and that they should be relegated to a lower standard of life because of their race.
I am white and I personaly think a white person said they where racist. I did not think the movie was racist. The whole Megan Fox think is a load of shit. They are saying the movie is sexist as well, because of the part of the movie where she is on the bike with the short shorts was sexist. How the hell is that sexist. I think its kinda hot.
great argument i think that if u are calling them black isnt that racist because if you think that they are black isnt that racist i kean why dont people think they are anther color
Get the fuck over it people, just watch the damn movie, your not going to do anything about it anyway but bitch and complain, save yourself the time and get an education so you can turn around the image depicted by black people.
No one bitched about Jazz being racist, why all of a sudden now?
Nice arguments but I'm afraid you are WRONG. You mentioned all those things with an assumption that the average person goes to the cinema with the intention to debunk any obvious negative stereotypes that come their way, absolutely wrong.
In the middle of the fun people are bombarded with these repugnant images and stereotypes that it is absorbed unconsciously into their minds. Hence you should not be surprised if such a person comes out of the cinema with a lesser perspective of blacks.
you my friend are partially correct, when you said "such a person comes out of the cinema with a lesser perspective of blacks." you should have said " such a LESSER person comes out of the cinema with a lesser perspective of blacks. No one person is going to believe that all black people are like that just because of this movie, there are plenty of movies that came out before this and were more degrading to the African American community and no one care.
Then I'm afraid you understand very little about racism. Many racists do not simply wake up one morning and declare another race of people inferior, there is usually a systematic degradation of that specific race (overtime) within that environment that actually makes the racist a victim. I suggest you read the book "The Anatomy of Race"
When you bombard people with negative stereotypes especially in a cinema, those people become unconscious victims of brainwashing.
The truth is, most racists cannot give you a definite source or the roots of their racism, that is because it is likely a phenomenon that has developed over time, often times thanks to the negative images and stereotypes they've been exposed to in their surroundings.
Metaphorically, a young impressionable child or teenager hardly ever have sufficient self-censoring mechanisms to counter and analyze these images hence they simply absorb them.
I agree with Tkobigman. The only people who see the twins Mudflap and Skids as racist characters are the who they portray. Get an education and learn the king's (or queen's) English and you feel offended.
That's because you are an idiot, remember that being black doesn't automatically exclude you from idiocy. In fact, I bet you're so dumb you will never be capable of beating the maker of this video in an argument, hence you have no other choice but to agree with him.
Ever heard of the human subconscious? you watch black stereotypes on a big screen, chances are it becomes a part of your subconscious and the next time you see a black person the first word that comes to your mind is ILLITERATE.
Only children resort to name calling when they disagree with someone. And as for "you watch black stereotypes on a big screen, chances are it becomes a part of your subconscious and the next time you see a black person the first word that comes to your mind is ILLITERATE." only the small minded.
really? does he agree with me because he is black, or is it because, like what you said he is so stupid he can't win so he just has to agree, or is it because he knows that black people aren't like that and that he knows that these characters are fictional characters in a kids movie?
So your saying that I'm an idiot because I thought something was funny in a movie, you're an idiot for coming on here and going off on me when you don't even know what the fuck is going on because what you said was completley uncalled for, you trip out just because of a small comment I posted about they way I felt about a fuckin robot in a movie. And by the way I disagree with him I don't agree I do feel that the idea of the robots were racist.
I totally agree with you! Before I saw it, I heard that the Twins were racist. I saw it and I didnt think they were racist. I thought they were hilarious! And if you think about it, Jazz was the same in the 1st film, and no one said anything!

Timefliesbye 8 months ago
No one expects Oscar winning performances, but if the acting is not believable then the actors might as well be replaced with a couple of Muppets. Second, the racist robots, I can see how it might have offended people; I'm sure if there was a robot that looked like a Lowrider (with hydraulics) and spoke street slang with a Mexican accent, I'm sure some people would be pissed. As for me, I'm still surprised people went to see the first movie.
Ladygagsalot 9 months ago
the main actors are bad. they did not need to be dramatic actors to be good. Good acting does not mean dramatic acting. what they are saying and doing just had to be believable.
we don't need that type of characters. the 2 characters has been removed anyway.

A stereotype is a simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group.
natedaug1 1 year ago
@natedaug1

I hated the charactors, I dont think they were racist but I just didnt understand why an alien robot would talk street and have a gold tooth. I know the movie isn't supposed to be realistic but they just ruined the whole experience for me, the first film was far better in my opinion.

@Turkey426224 You obviously didn't watch the first movie. Their native language isn't English when they come to Earth EITHER. but when white actors play naruto do they , do they make fun of their culture by acting ignorant and not pronouncing words right in english with a japanese dialect, I think not. 2 black actors doing the voice of 2 robots that just happened idiotic and ghetto is no coincidence lets not be naive. just the turncoat robot who sells out the decepticons happens to be your stereotypical dumb italian. the little doctor robot has a german accent kind of like hitler.
OrganicThumb420 2 years ago
No. they imitate the culture. They don't mock it.

111Treasury 2 years ago
Ok ok...c'mon. The Twins were not "Black" stereotypes, they were "Urban" stereotypes. I know some "white" guys who ACTUALLY talk like that. My German-decended friends aren't raising a ruckus over Scapel's accent, nor are my family members with Brooklyn and Chicago roots pissed that Wheelie talked like a mob "rat". Then I ask: why are people so pissy about the Twin's stereotype? The TFs just embody extremes in our culture. Why does everything have to spin the rascist wheel? Garbage, imo...
rckola2003 2 years ago 2
@rckola2003 thank you so much, that was perfect
tkobigman 2 years ago
@rckola2003 If their actions were the only thing about them that people identified as "black," I would call bullshit on that racism call. But these guys have big lips, big ears, and droopy sleepy eyes. They also looked a little ape-like, but maybe that doesn't apply. These were two black-faced cartoon characters. Coupled with giving them the worst kind of ignorant black stereotyping, it's a no-brainer that it's racist.
dduval59 8 months ago
@dduval59 I talked to several inidividuals of African decent who were rather uspet that they left the Twins out of TF3...they felt that it was racist that they were not in the 3rd film. When they realized the Twins were axed because of the "stereotype" card, they themselves thought it was a load of bull.
So, racism can be relative? When some people of "that" ancestory think they were being racist for allowing them in the 2nd film, and other people say the reverse about TF3...who is right?

Ogobo5 2 years ago
when did I ever number how many races there are?
tkobigman 2 years ago
1. Maybe you never heard a black person say "missa," but "massa" (master) was a common phrase for slaves to refer to their slavemasters.
2. You don't see to be that racially/socially aware if you refer to Hispanic people as "spanish".
3. "I brought in that FOURTH race right there" lol...I don't think I have to say anything more.

SO by saying that they are black... its not micheal bay inflicting these stereo types upon black people. ITS YOU!
ViperT17 2 years ago
I don't think it's as black and white as you are making it. I think you contradict yourself somewhat by referencing the movie airplane. I thought it was a funny scene but in a world where black people in 2009 are still somewhat limited in the diversity of roles, I can understand how those characters would be frustrating to watch because they are clearly "portraying" those black men in that way.
also most people haven't been mentioning the burger king commercial where one says crackhead.
djDivineJustice 2 years ago
I'm an educated black person that graduated from college. I still use slang when around my friends because it is a comfortable way to talk and be friendly. Now I do believe that those characters in the movie were trying to portray an average black stereotype not only because of the language but because of the facial features. They have a thick lip and wide nose type of feature that is known to be black.
detroitluv82 2 years ago
and what ethnicity is the most underpriveleged? I beleive that is African American if we are talking about the united states my man.
ruddy3 2 years ago
Maybe but not by much, the only reason people see many african americans as below the poverty line is due to the income divide of black people, most people don't realize but spanish people are areound the same percent impoverished but there arent a lot of spanich rappers with STUPID AMOUNTS OF MONEY that they can compare the broke spansh people to which makes them seem broker.
tkobigman 2 years ago
yea but those stereotypes are linked with black people dickhead, its comic relief that they are making fun of afrian americans? thats what a strereotype is, (false)characteristics of a group of people which are linked to a vast ethnic or cultural group. They were making fun of african americans. I understand what your saying but there were three stereotypes that are linked with black people. Slang as well as profanity, gold teeth and not being able to read, which are associated with blacks,
ruddy3 2 years ago
WRONG!!!!!!! Slang is connected to anyone form an "under-privileged" neighborhood and as for not being able to read thats definitely the stereotype for people, mainly whites who live in the deep south
tkobigman 2 years ago
I gotta jump in right here; You're right in a way and wrong in another. slang is associated with anyone who is not educated in the proper way to speak however certain types of slang are associated with different ethnic groups. You wouldn't expect an uneducated asian to speak like a hillbilly although there are exceptions. You wouldn't expect an uneducated black to speak spanglish. You would expect them to speak like the twins because that slang is reserved for inner city/urban American people
MahlonWilliams 2 years ago
Most uneducated urban black people speak like that. But what makes it offensive is that educated urban blacks speak with that same accent but to a lower degree. Its the culture of the inner city just like speaking patois is the culture of the islands. Slang is just as much related to blacks as patois is related to Jamaicans. If you make fun of that particular cultural aspect people will draw a line of connection. If the twins spoke spanglish, latinos would be offended.

MahlonWilliams 2 years ago
Im not in the back story that much considering this is all info given by the movie. But then again everything in movies is fictional & scripted & stereotypical. Movies, for the most part follow a set pattern that is very obvious even before you see the movie, (good beats evil, guy wins girl, guy saves world/people at last second etc) and almost all the characters in movies are just stereotypes, think hard and you will see what Im saying, people are just trying to find something to pick at
tkobigman 2 years ago
Yes its true that most characters in movies are stereotypes but when they cross the line and make them negative that's where it becomes a problem. Just because hollywood follows a pattern doesnt make it acceptable or right. Black people used to die 1st or most violently in every movie and people complained and it mostly stopped. But people like you complained that they were complaining. This is the same thing. If enough people complain about these mechanical minstrels this bafoonery will stop.
MahlonWilliams 2 years ago
You cant say that they dont have ethnicities because they aren't real or because they're robots They've taken on human characteristics. For example look at Speedy Gonzales. He's a mouse yet he had the characteristics of a stereotypical Mexican. Thats why his cartoons were eventually banned. The goodfeathers on Animaniacs were birds, but its obvious that they portray the stereotypes of Italians. These characters have human characteristics and all the above were subliminal forms of racism.
MahlonWilliams 2 years ago
Yes but those characters are from earth, meaning they may have been born in those areas and influenced by them. The transformers aren't from earth, its not like jazz lived in Harlem all his life, NO he live on an entirely different planet not influence by people. Hence Speedy Gonzales acting like a stereotypical Mexican, because he was probably born in Mexico, as for the goodfeathers, thats Steven Spielberg's parody of his friend, Martin Scorsese, being the Scorsese directed Good Fellas.
tkobigman 2 years ago
1) They were talking like stereotypical black people.
2) They had gold teeth like stereotypical black people.
3) At some point they said "We cant read!" "Nah, we dont do much readin" as opposed to we "dont understand this language" like the other robots.
4) In case you couldn't see how these characters were "black", they had a guy working in the butcher shop with jacked up gold teeth like the robot so you can make the connection.
What about Jazz in part 1? Remember the only bot that died? >_>
MahlonWilliams 2 years ago
Now in anything else that wouldn't have bothered you, but in this it does, maybe its because they sound like white people acting black. One of them had a single gold tooth, if you want to stalk stereotypes, then stereotypicly black people would have grills, meaning all their teeth are gold not just a single one, Jazz on the other hand wasn't black, HE ACTED BLACK, the transformers don't have ethnicities like we do, and as for his death, shouldn't have jumped on Megatron
tkobigman 2 years ago
Dont assume that it wouldn't bother me in anything else, because it does. The bafoonery on BET, music videos, and subliminal or blatant racism in the media.. it bothers me but I usually keep it to myself and just encourage people to be tasteful and to have class. As far as your statement on grills, thats a stereotype rich ghetto black people and Gold teeth is a stereotype of poor ghetto black people. Its not one or the other.. they both are stereotypes.
MahlonWilliams 2 years ago
Jazz was a silver and black car, that talked "black", who was forced to do what looks like break dancing in order to transform, and was played by a black voice actor. And you say that he shouldn't have jumped on megatron like it wasnt written into the script. It didnt just happen man.. they wanted him to die so they write him out of the script by killing him.

What you are demonstrating is your own racial prejudice.
alphacause 2 years ago
Anyone who levies the criticism that the two robots in the movie (called the twins) is a racist caricature is actually revealing his own racist assumptions about people, than any actual racist implications by the makers of this movie (continued)
alphacause 2 years ago
(continued from previous post) What is essentially happening is that these people are engaging in film snobbery. They are applying rules of logic and plausibility that they would never apply to their beloved Star Trek or Star Wars, even though any critical eye could point out just as many absurdities with the plot and acting in those film franchises as they do with the Transformers.
alphacause 2 years ago
(continued from previous post) People are clearly overanalyzing the various implausible parts that are interwoven into the story to make it work. If you look at any work of fiction with that fastidious eye for logical coherence, then no work of science fiction would be enjoyable. These same critics enjoyed Star Trek (like I did), but they did not let the implausible fact that every alien from every planet and DIMENSION could speak English deter them from enjoying the film (continued).
alphacause 2 years ago
It confounds me how critical people are of a movie, which is based on action figures/cartoon about morphing robots from the 1980's. How much quality, in terms of acting/storyline, do you expect from such source material? There are certain movies where you should expect Oscar worthy performances, and an intricate and engaging storyline. This is one of those movies where you shouldn't have such lofty expectations. You go to it for the visual spectacle, which it delivers in spades (continued).

I believe that people who see racism are often racist themselves, if not more than the normal person. because we are all racist against other cultures and our own to a certain degree.

Look the movie isnt racist. If they wanted to be racist they would call the black robots "Niggerbots" or "Obamacons"
whitetigerninja2007 2 years ago 2
ok then lemme put it like this then.... calling something racist thats "fantasy" is stupid because there is rascist crap in t.v. show, games abd other movies and i dont hear shit bout it.
negi001 2 years ago
Okay. So I guess if I made a fantasy movie about how much I hate jewish people it'd be okay since there's a bunch of other racist stuff on TV that people don't complain about.
That's retarded.
Just because people aren't complaining doesn't make it right.
Christ.

If you cannot get over how they acted thats your problem.
negi001 2 years ago
Hollywood has been using blacks as comic relief for leading white actors for years. The two robots are the robot equal of those exploited black actors. Look at all the black/white buddy movies. The robots are stereotypes simple and plain. It's sad that some people don't see it, it's even sadder that others choose not to.

@jakeisurpimp: bro these bitches cry about stereotypes, and being called nigger but here they are calling eachother nigger, or nigga (same fucking thing)
whitetigerninja2007 2 years ago
Plus, they say white people can't dance, talk like pussies, etc. and they get offended by a fucking movie
jakeisurpimp 2 years ago
Ummm...what does that have to do with whether or not this movie has racist stereotypes? All you're doing is the tu quo fallacy---'oh well since they do the same thing sometimes, then this is alright'
Next.
Doodoorump 2 years ago
they were not called "Niggabots" or Deceptabaracks"
whitetigerninja2007 2 years ago
KeddyG90 2 years ago
No offense, but that reasoning is absurd.
Stereotypes are generalizations based on a group of people. The fact that they're generalizations pretty much means most of the people in that group won't act like that.
Yes, they are black stereotypes.
Look up minstrel shows
Watch a few old movies from the 30's and 40's.

if they had a an autobot speaking spanish and turned into a fucking lawnmower would u say that that wasnt racist? they r supposed to be raceless robots from outerspace. why would they have gold teeth? why were they the only ones who were speaking ebonics? WHY COULDNT THEY FUCKING READ? SMH at everyone who says this isnt racist...

when people say "oh it's just a summer action movie leave it alone - it doesn't matter if the actors were fucking shit!"
YES IT DOES.
aliens, batman, jurassic park, jaws, indiana jones, star wars etc were all summer action movies and for the most part they had good performances in them. many of them also stand on their own as "good films".
we're not expecting something like fucking taxi driver - but it don't think that something at least as good as Temple of Doom is TOO much to ask for.

How is it racist?
You've never heard a black person say me-sa?
Are you kidding me?
Ever hear of a minstrel show, kid?
You obviously don't know enough about the history of racial stereotyping and discrimination in the entertainment industry to comment.
Those characters---to the letter---follow the guidelines for a minstrel shows.
I guess you think it's okay that there's ONE general stereotype for blacks. Whites get several...and most are positive. Blacks get ONE, and it is wholly negative.
Doodoorump 2 years ago
if u think this is towards black people then you're a racist. i mean, black people didn't think it was aimed towards them, but white people did?
dasnake1234 2 years ago
im african american....and i certainly did. it ruined the whole movie to me.
1Slick4Sho 2 years ago
why, i guess dat is bad, i mean i hav best firends who are black, some are asian, some are spnish, one is irish, but they are all great friends, so it really doesn't matter wat a racist wud say anyway
dasnake1234 2 years ago
imagine if you went to a club with your mixture of friends you just described...and the music you heard while there was offensive to you. all the songs talked about negative steriotypes of your race. but soon as you shared it with your friends, they made you feel dumb for being offended because THEY werent, or because noone else at the club did. i respect anyones feelings whether i feel the same or not. thats what non-partisan ppl do. dont be partial to your own views. try to understand someone.
1Slick4Sho 2 years ago
I think that if transformers took this out all this shit out wouldnt have happened
DJSMOOTHIE1 2 years ago
its like this, if i go to see a movie that i KNOW is going to be dealing with racist issues (ex.
1Slick4Sho 2 years ago
Transformers isnt racist LOL *-*...no no...it just sucks penis ^-^ bahahah.
GameRemix 2 years ago
you dont have a clue what youre talkin bout dude. having a white and black friend doesnt make you an expert. im african-american. i found this VERY offensive. comic relief is NOT AN EXCUSE to be racist. bottom line. it doesnt matter if all black ppl are like that. this movie is an action movie, not a comedy. therefore it should be more tactful. nobody should have to "put up" with nothing like this just because racist ppl have the money to put it together. wake up and smell the "sambots"
1Slick4Sho 2 years ago
So no, Transformers is NOT racist.. Infact racism textbook definition word by word includes examples such as hate crimes. Not a summer blockbuster with two robots people assume are black. PLUS, No one proved they were black. They could've been 'Wanksters" People overreact about this stuff. They just want a reason to rip on a perfectly good movie and hope someone follows theyre example so they can feel special. Sad But True.
jakeisurpimp 2 years ago
it is racist, but very subtle ..... and if you thought there were really funny then you got problems lol
ShinAkuma21 2 years ago
not so much racism as it is just ignorance, if it were racism then they would hole heartedly believe that thats how black people are and that they should be relegated to a lower standard of life because of their race.
tkobigman 2 years ago
is it being racist when the first thing that people go to when they hear those sort of mannerisms is black people?
crazyeyes1052 2 years ago
basicly it comes down to people will find anything to bitch about in big movies. i thought the movie was awsome. All i gotta say.
grizrulez 2 years ago
I am white and I personaly think a white person said they where racist. I did not think the movie was racist. The whole Megan Fox think is a load of shit. They are saying the movie is sexist as well, because of the part of the movie where she is on the bike with the short shorts was sexist. How the hell is that sexist. I think its kinda hot.

great argument i think that if u are calling them black isnt that racist because if you think that they are black isnt that racist i kean why dont people think they are anther color

So I guess Eminem is racist?
Tater or w/e from "Cars" is Racist?
Get the fuck over it people, just watch the damn movie, your not going to do anything about it anyway but bitch and complain, save yourself the time and get an education so you can turn around the image depicted by black people.
No one bitched about Jazz being racist, why all of a sudden now?
TheLudeH22A 2 years ago
Nice arguments but I'm afraid you are WRONG. You mentioned all those things with an assumption that the average person goes to the cinema with the intention to debunk any obvious negative stereotypes that come their way, absolutely wrong.
In the middle of the fun people are bombarded with these repugnant images and stereotypes that it is absorbed unconsciously into their minds. Hence you should not be surprised if such a person comes out of the cinema with a lesser perspective of blacks.
bloodeyez2 2 years ago
you my friend are partially correct, when you said "such a person comes out of the cinema with a lesser perspective of blacks." you should have said " such a LESSER person comes out of the cinema with a lesser perspective of blacks. No one person is going to believe that all black people are like that just because of this movie, there are plenty of movies that came out before this and were more degrading to the African American community and no one care.
tkobigman 2 years ago
Then I'm afraid you understand very little about racism. Many racists do not simply wake up one morning and declare another race of people inferior, there is usually a systematic degradation of that specific race (overtime) within that environment that actually makes the racist a victim. I suggest you read the book "The Anatomy of Race"
When you bombard people with negative stereotypes especially in a cinema, those people become unconscious victims of brainwashing.
bloodeyez2 2 years ago
The truth is, most racists cannot give you a definite source or the roots of their racism, that is because it is likely a phenomenon that has developed over time, often times thanks to the negative images and stereotypes they've been exposed to in their surroundings.
Metaphorically, a young impressionable child or teenager hardly ever have sufficient self-censoring mechanisms to counter and analyze these images hence they simply absorb them.
bloodeyez2 2 years ago
well then tell you what, if you find the source of Michael Bays racism then you win.
tkobigman 2 years ago
I agree with Tkobigman. The only people who see the twins Mudflap and Skids as racist characters are the who they portray. Get an education and learn the king's (or queen's) English and you feel offended.
tittyman1984 2 years ago
Psh I'm black and I thought they were funny as hell
Itachi376 2 years ago
That's because you are an idiot, remember that being black doesn't automatically exclude you from idiocy. In fact, I bet you're so dumb you will never be capable of beating the maker of this video in an argument, hence you have no other choice but to agree with him.
Ever heard of the human subconscious? you watch black stereotypes on a big screen, chances are it becomes a part of your subconscious and the next time you see a black person the first word that comes to your mind is ILLITERATE.
bloodeyez2 2 years ago
Only children resort to name calling when they disagree with someone. And as for "you watch black stereotypes on a big screen, chances are it becomes a part of your subconscious and the next time you see a black person the first word that comes to your mind is ILLITERATE." only the small minded.
tittyman1984 2 years ago
thank you
tkobigman 2 years ago
really? does he agree with me because he is black, or is it because, like what you said he is so stupid he can't win so he just has to agree, or is it because he knows that black people aren't like that and that he knows that these characters are fictional characters in a kids movie?
tkobigman 2 years ago
So your saying that I'm an idiot because I thought something was funny in a movie, you're an idiot for coming on here and going off on me when you don't even know what the fuck is going on because what you said was completley uncalled for, you trip out just because of a small comment I posted about they way I felt about a fuckin robot in a movie. And by the way I disagree with him I don't agree I do feel that the idea of the robots were racist.
