@ livluvdance1 my family felt the same way don't loose your love for rats though who knows my mom said not in a million years but here I am with my girl willow!
I have owned two rats, both boys, both in seperate times, and my mom had a female in college, I am 15 and I am thinking of getting two females, or one female and having her bred.. how would I do that? and for two rats what size of cage would you recommend that is not to pricey and huge! Thanks! :)
@yellowillow010 Please don't be breeding for the sake of making more babies. Not only is it hard to place proper homes for them, but if you're going to be breeding pet store rats, you're just going to be producing more sickly rats. Leave the breeding for the experts who are trying to better the animals.
@yellowillow010 I'm 15 too:D I have two rats, one female and one neutured male. They are in a pretty big four level cage that cost about$100, but a smaller cage will do if you take them out alot to run around/play/explore :)
could you recommend any sites that have rat toys and adventure playgrounds or something? cuz we've had a new puppy and my girls are getting a bit bored staying in their cage.
I have actually tried the bathroom and they love it. But i had to make sure there were no holes they could scamper into (that's why i didnt like them in there) But there wasn't and they had a lot of fun jumping around. I also saw a toilet roll in your vid and thought that was a brill idea cuz usually they make a lot of noise when ripping things up. thanks! going shoppin 4 toys 2moz! :)
ye, one dragged it into her side of the cage and just enrolled it (didn't even give her sister a chance) shiny stones? mine like bits of fabric and rip up anything close to the bars that they can get their teeth into. (my friend's sock was shredded to bits. :)
There are 38 at the moment. I'm breeding to try to extend lifespan, so I'm giving myself plenty of options to select for health. I'm also a sucker for rescues and rehomes, which doesn't help keep the numbers down.
For some reason this reminds me of David Attenborough...

Nice I breed rats for food. And they are in the same cages :)! Only the pregnant girls go separated.

woooow =D, how do you clean all that!?
LuZzeZzinaTH 1 year ago
@LuZzeZzinaTH One or two cages every evening. They come out in turn for playtime, so I can clean the cage while they're out.

Where do you get the rope in for the cage at?
wolfy14o 2 years ago
From parrot suppliers. They're about £15. Try googling for 'bendy rope perch'.
rattycorner 2 years ago
Thank you :D
wolfy14o 2 years ago
@wolfy14o I make mine! Flice cut into 3 pices noted at the end and just braid it!

how much do your cages cost?
yellowillow010 2 years ago
I think they're around £130 now. That's for the two level Liberta Explorer cage. Try Googling.

What cages do you use?
RatsPal 2 years ago
The big ones are Liberta Explorers and the cream coloured one is a Flight 400 Bird Cage.

You can't put links on here, but they will appreciate lots of cardboard boxes, parrot ropes, hammocks, parrot chew toys and that sort of stuff.
Your girls need to come out of the cage whatever you put in there. Can you let them out in a room away from the puppy?

Lol, they are noisy with paper, aren't they? Some of mine will just tear bits off the toilet roll, some will unroll the whole lot at once.
For some reason some of mine like collecting shiny stones too, but not all of them.

whats all o nthe bottom of their cages? that green stuff?
Bearrick 2 years ago
It's curly kale. They have it for breakfast some days.
rattycorner 2 years ago
Ah, so what is it you use for their bedding? cause i dont see that they have a litter box in their cage.
Bearrick 2 years ago
I use litter across the whole base. It's a shredded card bedding called Finacard.
