I've gotta ask about tone, particularly for the first half of your video (before you add the effects, which actually had a nice guitar slide feel). I've got the MM-3 (a mockery of the real stingray) but I can't get my tone perfect. Honestly, I'd define your tone as perfect. Equalizer and Amp wise , what are you set at? Where are all of your knobs turned to?
You can see it in my videos, I'm struggling with getting a tone like yours
Hi there! I have eight basses... Michael Kelly Dragonfly Acoustic JayDee Supernatuaral Classic Series I MusicMan Stingray HH Washburn Status Series 1000 Yamaha BB3000S Bryce V2 6-String Fender Fretless Jazz Bass Home Made Tenor Bass Thanks for asking! Peace!
After listening to this jam, I'd heartily recommend dumping the extra seven basses on that wall and getting that SRHH welded to your torso! Nothing else comes close! Great playing, great sound! You are da man (or, y'know, one of 'em, anyway).
question, i have a stingray, an actual stingray. in the beginning of your jam...how did you get that nice flea-style crunch? im been trying to get that for a while. real nice sound my man
Hey how much did you pay for your sx fretless bass traditional serries on your wall.i cant find a video of you playing it. i have the same bass but it was given to me
Gary I've been watching ur stuff for a few years now and it amazes me. I wonder if Mark King himself has seen u using that thumb of yours! I'm off to see them soon, 5th time now!! Keep it up mate :)
Nice tone Gary. 43 is one of my favorite bass lines. When you get a chance I would really appreciate seeing a 'slowed down' tutorial of the slide element! Cheers Paul
Yes. The first phrase is completely without effects. Then I add a little chorus and reverb. I must admit, I prefer the sound without any effects at all. This bass is easily the most versatile instrument I have owned in my 25 years of playing.
These are 30-90 DR Hibeams. Even with light gauge strings the Stingray sounds punchy, chunky and very fluid. I set the action paper-thin low and no fret buzz. This bass is built like a tank!
would u say stingrays are one of the best for slapping

did you have the dual pickup set or just the bridge pup on action?

I had the dual pick set. The first section of the video is the Stingray "dry" through the computer's line in.
