  • would u say stingrays are one of the best for slapping

  • im looking at getting a stingray, would you suggest i get the dual humbucker version over the single humbucker

  • Wow. That makes me want to go out and buy a bass.

  • Pretty.

    Fucking.

    Awesome.

    :]

  • Damn, you totally shred, aweseme playing, and like savagekiller99 said "It doesn't even look like your trying hard" It doesn't.

  • haha wow your really good... sounds amazing and doesn't even look like your trying hard

  • any were i could get pictures of this bass its the exact one i want in that colour to.

  • I am loving the bass bro. Keep on rocking.

  • you nailed the mark king tone with a stingray, impressive indeed !

  • sick man.

I've gotta ask about tone, particularly for the first half of your video (before you add the effects, which actually had a nice guitar slide feel). I've got the MM-3 (a mockery of the real stingray) but I can't get my tone perfect. Honestly, I'd define your tone as perfect. Equalizer and Amp wise , what are you set at? Where are all of your knobs turned to?

You can see it in my videos, I'm struggling with getting a tone like yours

  • Sounds very good (as it should) until you add those effects....yuck! Let it sound like a Ray should :)

  • Love the stingray!!!! and the playing of course mate.

  • sick good, man. :)

  • wow nice playing

byt the way how many basses do you have?

  • Hi there! I have eight basses... Michael Kelly Dragonfly Acoustic JayDee Supernatuaral Classic Series I MusicMan Stingray HH Washburn Status Series 1000 Yamaha BB3000S Bryce V2 6-String Fender Fretless Jazz Bass Home Made Tenor Bass Thanks for asking! Peace!
  • @gdenyer

After listening to this jam, I'd heartily recommend dumping the extra seven basses on that wall and getting that SRHH welded to your torso! Nothing else comes close! Great playing, great sound! You are da man (or, y'know, one of 'em, anyway).

  • Hi,do you use a delay?

  • Hey man, sorry for the delay in getting back to you!

No, I don't use a delay... at least not in this piece.

    Peace!

  • nice playing stingrays give out the best tone

    awsome groove!

  • The triplets at 0:24 are awesome! Nice job!

  • Great sound in that new Stingray,i like most the first part

  • Is a stingray good for rock and pop as well? Not just funky stuff? Thinking about getting one vs. a Jazz

  • Stingray all the way man!

  • @joejoeirish the jazz doesn't stand a chance against the stingray :)

  • question, i have a stingray, an actual stingray. in the beginning of your jam...how did you get that nice flea-style crunch? im been trying to get that for a while. real nice sound my man

  • Hey how much did you pay for your sx fretless bass traditional serries on your wall.i cant find a video of you playing it. i have the same bass but it was given to me

  • That wall behind you is beautiful. I hope my wall gets filled with guitars some day

  • I love my stingray as well. i just wish I'da gotten the rosewood fret board now..but the tone is still sweet..

  • Gary I've been watching ur stuff for a few years now and it amazes me. I wonder if Mark King himself has seen u using that thumb of yours! I'm off to see them soon, 5th time now!! Keep it up mate :)

  • did you have the dual pickup set or just the bridge pup on action?

  • I had the dual pick set. The first section of the video is the Stingray "dry" through the computer's line in.

  • man your awesomely skilled!

  • man ur funk slap is epic

keep working and u might be as good as les claypool =D

  • Awesome...

    Cool musicman...

Nice sound..., I like that sound.

What bass ampli you used sir...?

    Sorry for my english...

  • wow gary....i wish i have that bass

  • Very nice. I still think the JayDee sounds better for slapping.

  • wow man thats sick i loved it and on a stingray uhhhhh i want one so bad

  • the next bass I'm getting is a stingray 5 hh

just waiting till I have enough

    any cons so far?

  • Nice tone Gary. 43 is one of my favorite bass lines. When you get a chance I would really appreciate seeing a 'slowed down' tutorial of the slide element! Cheers Paul

  • Sweet man, rad bass...

  • That sound is killer! Does all of that sound just come from the Stingray?

  • Yes. The first phrase is completely without effects. Then I add a little chorus and reverb. I must admit, I prefer the sound without any effects at all. This bass is easily the most versatile instrument I have owned in my 25 years of playing.

  • Try doing some of the Guaranteed and Forever Now riffs on that bass Gary :)

  • Hehe! I tried that already, and the sound blew me away! I think I am in love with this bass! Its just so easy to play.

  • Lol, any chance you could upload some videos then? Her Big Day is a fun track to play :)

  • yeahhh stingray all the way ;) what strings/gauges are you using here?

  • Hi James,

These are 30-90 DR Hibeams. Even with light gauge strings the Stingray sounds punchy, chunky and very fluid. I set the action paper-thin low and no fret buzz. This bass is built like a tank!

  • An imaginative idea perfectly performed! What means ;Stingray; actually?

  • nice bass and chops

  • Sounds killer!

  • very nice indeed
