  • it seems like a great invention, however, it would be hard to get it to every infant (cost a lot of money). How would you determine which newborns get the infant monitor? There are other countries (such as in Africa) which face devestating disease and child mortality. Good luck with your product and hopefully when I have children I will be fortunate to have something like this to keep them safe.

  • thanks. parents would make the choice of whether they want it for their infant. we'd be glad to give it away if funded, however, most developing countries usually have more basic infant needs, like lack of clean water, starvation, and infectious diseases. plus you do have to have electricity.

  • also, regarding safety of ultrasonic devices the fda said their primary concern is radiation. our device was repeatedly tested and shown to emit zero radiation.

    safey is not an issue.

  • I think under FDA rules this would be classed as a medical device because it prevents death, nothing wrong with that but I have been involved in paper work for FDA submissions and they are tough, (the inspections are just as bad) for this device to go to market you'll have to prove to the FDA that ultrasonic waves do not harm babies, especily thier hearing. Google's money whould help pay for lawyers and sutable manufacturing facilities.

  • actually, this is not the case. when i invented the device we contacted the fda and they said as long we did not make medical claims we could sell it without their approval, which we did until we ran out of advertising money. it's a little tricky but you just have to say 'baby monitor' and not 'treatment for sids' and we had no problem. regarding manufacturing hughes electronics took care of that for us and did an excellent job along with inventory and shipping. all we need is the cash to start.

  • 2,247 babies died from SID in 2004 in the US.

  • yes, and more than 10 times that number from non sids causes such as upper respiratory infection, seizure, aspiration, closed head injury, pneumonia, asthma, allergic reaction, medication overdose/reaction, etc, etc. unfortunately, i've seen it all in 25 years of practice. wouldn't it be great if a parent could be notified just 20 seconds after their infant stops moving(breathing)and save their baby's life or get help immediately? what's more life changing than saving life?

  • this is good, but i don't know if it changes the world

  • "we are the world"

i guess you have to be a parent.

  • it may save some infants .. but the project is focuisng on a bigger picture! this is just an invention . .will not help all .. good invention but will neve get selected. ggod luck marketing it.

  • it helps ALL infants survive the critical first year of life. what's bigger than saving an infant? what's YOUR great idea?

  • Protecting babys is a good thing.

  • thanks. it worked great for my kids but i didn't have the cash to make it available to others. maybe everyone can get it if google selects it.
