OMG! I just realized this is dated the day before he left us!! God I miss his presence in music. I can only imagine what he would have done today with his amazing talents. Miss you Stevie, RIP.
I lived in Wisconsin for a few years, been to quite a few shows at Alpine Valley, I was backstage once for an Aerosmith show, and as cool as it was to be hanging out with Aerosmith, I could not help constantly thinking that I was standing where arguably the greatest guitar player ever had died, it was a weird feeling.
He had no idea that would be his last show. How weird life and death is. I was down in Alabama working on the interstate between Memphis and Birmingham, driving heavy equipment when he got killed. It was 102 degrees outside!! I sat there in that heat and thought about it and was so sad!!!
continued....SRV was 4+ years sober when he died and In Step was about him 12-Steppin. I didn't know that at the time, I just wanted to be in heaven w/SRV talkin' blues. I miss him so much....I just saw Jimmie on 11/12. Got to hug him, tell him how much I love him and his Bro so much and got to share my sobriety story with Jimmie too. It was a night I'll never ever forget.
SRV got me clean & sober by accident. I was listening to In Step praying please take to where Stevie Ray is....I didn't know anything bout sobriety & was in complete denial about myself...long story short I ended up in AA and now I have 17 and 1/2 years of continuous sobriety.
uhm i guess i'm an idiot soo... yesterday i've listened to stevie's last concert on Youtube, n I really didn't get was exactly 20 years before, even though it was written 26/08/1990... today i've been listening to stevie for a couple of hours n i didn't get he died exactly 20 years ago...
just wanted to share with you how fxxxxxx surprised i had been 20 minutes ago when i turned the pc on, came here again for listening stevie again n realise it...
@SMyD77777 Actually I think it was just after the gig, they went to say goodbye, Clapton said "you shouldn't take the chopper, it looks really foggy." And he said, "nah, it'll be fine." :(
@spartanjaws just curious what makes you say u think he knew he was going to die. The man was clean and sober for a few years at this point and in good health. He died in a helicopter crash...how could he even think to predict something like that?
He was so unbelievably good in 1983 when he broke into the mainstream... but by 8/26/90 he had simply become a master. RIP chief... you singlehandedly changed consciousness on this planet.
Thank you for the tribute. I can't believe he's been gone 20 years this year. He lives on as #1 in my heart. Rest in peace, Stevie. The Lord took you waay too soon, but guess He just couldn't wait any longer! I'll love you forever!
you are v. v .lucky to of been there!!...i would of given my right arm to be there...so f*%$ if i was age 8..lol..but then again giving my right arm wouldnt of allowed me to progress in srv air guitar 19 yrs later infront of every mirror in my house..lol..in all seriousness though...srv is king...king tone..king guitar and king among men...rip stevie..love ya!!
alas, i was born in '94, and never got to hear his music till i was 13, so i never got to hear him or see him live :(, there has never been, or never will be, a guitarist and showman like Stevie, and we hope that he will never be forgotten
Stephen Ray Vaughan-October 3, 1954 August 27, 1990. sadly missed.
The last time that I saw Stevie was the previous tour with Beck at the UIC in Chicago. I had a chance to see him that weekend. Instead, I headed down to Buddy Guy's legends in Chicago. I did not even get in. I woke up the next morning on my 30th birthday to find out that he died.
For me, there is no doubt that he is the best that I ever saw (including Santana).
im only 13 but srv enspired me to play guitar as soon as i herd him i bot a squir strat sunburst changed the pickgaurd to black and put jdl on it and started playing rip stevie your music lives on
your not alone! one day around 3 years ago, when I was 13, my dad was watching the El Mocambo concert on TV, and the first time I saw him, he was playing texas flood behind his back, i was amazed
Next time u get a guitar make sure you buy a genuine Fender. Buy a 60s reissue strat. I'm the same, I've been playing guitar for nearly 4 years now, and just as I was about to give up I heard this song, and I've never looked back.
Stevie Ray Vaughn was one of the most inspirational players ever to grace this earth, I am only sixteen and im not old enough to have been alive when he was, but i have heard so much of his music and i play his music on guitar and i love it! RIP Stevie. Fast and slow blues, truly a god he was! :)
i saw him one month before he died at Montreal forum Quebec , i'm so pride to be there for the last time , with joe Coker , unforgetable night than i will never forget .
he will always be missed. even hendrix wasnt as inspiring to me as SRV, but i miss him too. sorry. and RVZ and his band was as SRV was to me. then Jimi, then gilmour, page.... but I dont know another gtr player with as much anything as SRV. humble too. and i had to miss the only show he did in my area before he died with the Allmans! i still wish there was video of that somehwere. i didnt know baout it till after the fact.
Im so sad that he is gone!! When he died i was into much hardrock and metal. But now its mostley blues. My big brother telled me about this Stevie Ray Vaughan and for the first time i heard him play and sing i was lost for ever. I seems not to get enough of his guitarplay and songs. My wife thinks am a nut that listen to Stevie so much. But what does she now lol!!
Rest in peace my friend. you make my life worth living.
wow, so this was a day before he died. so sad to think about how much more wonderful he would have become. then again, i guess you could say that he died when he will be remembered for being the best he ever had been. not a burn out you know, though he never would have been.
It really is tragic that he's not around anymore to continue to only get better... but at least we can honestly say he left the building at his best. How many people can truthfully say that?
I was at this concert at Alpine Valley. The show I saw was on Sunday the day he died. We actually had two dates at Alpine Valley. Saturday and Sunday. I mean you had Eric Clapton the Memphis Horns amongst others. The energy and the excitement of the show was unreal. I have never seen a performer so full of life as I did that night. R.I.P. SRV

For Stevie Ray ,
Though you have been dead 21 years , you seem forever young to ...me ,
I am to young to have known you ,
but yet I feel I do know you ,
for you speak to me through your music ,
you made me discover the blues ,
and pick up a guitar for the first time and play , yet I never met you ,
I wish I had
