  • Cant wait to do this play. i hope i get mark antony. hehe i like playing the guy parts and im very good at memorizing.

  • I'm so obsessed<3 I love this so much.

  • I wonder how many people who are watching this, are watching it because they need to recite it.

I know that feel bro. I know it well.

  • Julius Caesar the most Influential Person in the Entire of MAN, the Holy Father of the Roman Empire, He is Jesus.

  • thank you for the play.. now i know how it is supposed to be spoken...

  • my heart is in the coofin with caesar... his ambition is in pocket.... : > )

  • I seriously have to memorize this shit by tomorrow.

    Am I scared as fuck?

Ha ha yeah cus I only memorize like 10 lines right now...

  • WHAT?! I not only have to memorize this speech and say it in front of my class but I have to analyze the tone, diction, and syntax in a five paragraph essay. WTF

  • In Latin, "C" was pronounced as "K" and "Ae" was pronounced as the "U" in "Fun" and the "I" as in "Grin". "Caesar" in Latin was pronounced as "Kaisar", not "Seesar", wich you say in modern italian. The prounciation changed during the early medieveal era, but if you travel'd back to ancient Rome and said "seesar", no one would think you ment Julis Caesar.

  • @Galentw. "Ae" was pronounced as the "U" in "Fun" I'm not sure, doesn't sound right to me, but I wasn't in Rome at that time. Were you? [;~)

    Miguel

  • i need to memorize this one for my project. oh my!! hope can do this. : )

  • 19 people thought Caesar was ambitious.....

  • @TrumpetAndGuitarMan 200 thought Brutus was an honorable man

  • That was quite a delivery. I will watch out for movies with Nick Baldassare.

  • is there a subtitle?

can i know where can i find it's subtitle?

  • i like to picture mark antony in a tuxedo tshirt cause it says i wanna be formal but im also here to party because i like my mark antony to be a partyer. im drunk:(

  • Although shakespere is a good writer i am not a huge fan of his plot designs for most of his plays they are often predictable and a litle far fetched, i think his writing is very good proven by this speach however i think the plots for some of his plays should of been thought through more like romeo and juliet for one

  • thank you..one of the great speaches...,something we have seemed to have forgotten.

  • Why don't we speak this way anymore...I mean compare this to "Cowboy Shakespeare" & you realize that we've BUTCHERED language. I actually felt physical pain when our history teacher made us watch the "cowboy Shakespeare" video after this video in class.

  • this is a big help for me as a student .. tnx for posting this vid i have now a guideline for my english literature ..marc anthony's speech :d

  • is this historically accurate as to what antony would have worn?

  • did rome have 12 citizens?

  • English's literature: Shakespeare.

  • the best antony oration..

  • awesome!

  • I have always wished HBO had added atleast part of this speech in the show "Rome"..instead, they let you hear of it through the Collegium.

  • yea my school is doing this play.. im brutus..

  • thanks 4 this video now i have an idea about my facial expression .............

  • how can i save this video in my usb? i badly need this piece......thanks!

  • MARAVILLOSO MUITO BOM...ESSE É CESAR ...SÓ QUERO DABER QUAL UNIVERSITY É ESSE ORADOR....

  • hmmmm... this speech is our exam we have to recite this in front of the whole class with feeling and facial expressions... the actor is really good.. i hope i can get into character well....

  • @GasoriUchiha

I hope you did well! In my English class, everybody picked a speech from the play and next Tuesday we're going to perform our exerpts in the order that they appear in the play. (I'm doing the first part of Antony's Oration). It'll be fun -- my English teacher has a thing for drama.

  • cool

  • It's very funny watch Romans talking in English... :D

  • @ferdinandsouz Actually a large number of English words are either straight latin(Roman language) -exit, for example - or based in latin, like commitee for example. Its likely for every sentence you speak in english, a third of the words will be latin in origin.

  • @ferdinandsouz Remember that this is Shakespeare not history.

  • It's very funny watch Romans talking in English... :D

  • i have to memorize this whole speech, but thats ok cuz i love this speech.

  • Nice!

  • Nice!

  • if anyone wants to help me wit a question i have for a school essay:

"Friendship is an important theme in Shakespears Julius Caesar, Consider all the individuals who are friends in the play: are their freidnships sincere or merely political alliances forged for the sake of convenience and self-preservation?"

So basically 3 friendships... if somone could tell me the answers it would be greatly appreciated

  • LOL at 5:08 . Someone yells in the background "he said to make the ring and then he says to stand back!"

  • Antony is supposed to read the will right?? only then the citizens rise to mutiny.........

But it was an awesome speech...The actor has done a great job...Bravo

  • damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn this is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i had to do it yesterday when we were reading the play ... he did a bit better job than i did lol

  • I don't know if he truly understood the roll. but it was very well done!

  • Better than Brando.

  • I love how his voice cracks

  • I have to memorize this speech and give it at a shakespeare competition. I have to tryout for it tomorrow!!! WTF??

  • i have to memorize that whole freaking speech and say in front of whole class...

    WTF

  • so do I... FML

  • so did i

  • I did it also, and it actually wasn't that bad. Really good speech.

  • yes what a pity you had to learn great litruature.

  • @OPTIIC14 we have to memorize the whole 3rd act and perform it for our english final

  • @OPTIIC14 me too:(

  • @OPTIIC14 So Do I!!!! lol, that is why im at this video xD

  • @OPTIIC14 i'm having a play in my class.........and same happening with me

  • LOl, I have to memorize one of these speeches. Its so pointless, I'm not even planning to do english stuff when im older. FML.

  • for some odd reason i love this speech o.o

  • Well done...

  • i come to lay ceaser out in the streeet so u couldnt forget about him if you tried.

    any way..

in all seriousness this is one of my favorite plays.

  • theboymarvel, you obviously have no idea what this speech is about. Go re-read the act please :)

  • This is about him being verbally ironic inorder to wue the audience on his side, while at the same time trying not to displease Brutus's request. This was Brutus's tragic flaw that lead him to his death; allowing Antony to speak, got the throng on his side, and they attacked and killed all the senators except for Brutus and Cassius.

  • Haha ever1 is learning this for English. Well my Latin 1 class is learnig it. Thx so much for the vid. We are going to n graded on inflection and dramatic gesture as well as just memorization so it really helped to see somebody else act it out.

  • I love this speech.

  • Hey IlFrozinIl i think i can enlighten u on ur question. Think why would u need to say that honeroble man are hounarable, unless they are not, he is really saying that brutus was a ambitions son of a bitch and he is dissonerable, not ceaser, u notice he always repeats it after every or so point he makes for repetition. Hope i helped

  • I have to disagree with you on this point. This segment is about Antony's conflict of emotions. Brutus, just as Caesar, is Antony's "countrymen." He truly believes that Brutus is "honourable" and throughout Act III he is attempting to comprehend the actions of Brutus. This is why he says "f I were disposed to stire your hearts and minds to mutiny and rage, I should do Brutus wrong..." At this point, he's unable to fully grasp the situation because of his affections to both Brutus and Caesar.

  • Greatest video on youtube tbh

  • Can someone explain to me why he always says "For Brutus is an honorable man"

  • yes indeed

to change the plebians mind he tells them he is they agree

then he makes them stand against wat brutus sed

turning them on the honurable men /conspirators

  • i think its a sarcasm... idk...

  • brutus nd other conspirators hav assasinated ceasar....nd antony is allowed to speak only if he praises the conspirators nd demolishes ceasar nd his ambitious character

  • Awesome video, i really cant stop watching it

  • 3/4ths of the way memorized. i wonder if i listen to this in my sleep if i will know it by memory when i wake up..lol

  • It's much easier if you make note cards. . . thats the suggestion i've given to all my classmates. We had a week to learn our Antony speech for PreAP English I honors, i learned it in about three days, not counting the ones i didnt work on it. We have to present it tomorrow in class and wear the toga's, sandals, laural leaves (spell check) and the full works WITH THE NOTE CARD TRICK I PLAN ON NAILING OUR PROJECT TOMORROW!!! You should try it!!

  • this is so hard to learn. :( im learning it in sections and once i memorize one section i forget the one i just did. going crazy.

  • NEED HELP!!!! when antony says

"he hath brought many captive homes to rome, whose ransomw did the genral coffers fill."

is he talking about caesar or brutus?...plese help me

  • He is talking about Caesar and his conquests.

  • @nick33son In the Gaelic Wars from 58 BC to 51 BC (in France.) He used Pompey's troops and in return gave Pompey his daughter. He did this to gain popularity and political status.

  • ceasar he talkin bout....@ kamanarifox

  • @kamanarifox Speaking of Ceasar

  • thanks for this good job antony...i hope i dont pass out in class while i do this!!

  • learning it now for English i figured i would get some idea of the impact of the speech pretty strong speech

  • dude i gotta learn it for english too haha! i learned that bitch in 45 minutes hahaha!

  • its too hard to learn my god

  • haha i gotta do it for extra credit in my english class.

  • Silly Roman crowds, so easily manipulated. Hee hee.

  • I like how he says, "For I have neither wit, nor words, nor worth, Action, nor utterance, nor the power of speech, To stir men's blood."

  • Especially ironic, considering what a dramatic speech this is considered to be.

  • im about 2 try 2 remember this speech 2nite and do it nfront of my class 2morrow lol

  • I find it sad to see how many of my peers don't realize the importance of this speech. American education is truly reaching new lows.

  • oh do shut up your comment proves nothing because there was nothing to prove in the beginning. so lets not be smartasses so as to get other people's attentions to think your oh so cool. this is why there is the quote "get a life"

  • wow really good thnx for helping me out on how i should go about the speech cz im using this speech for toga party its worth a test grade to wear a toga and memorizing a speech :)

  • I'm teaching Julius Caesar to my tenth graders and am using this clip as part of my lesson plan. The acting is awesome! Thanks for posting this.

  • You're welcome. Glad I could help.

  • I cheated and read this book before the rest of the class... everyone else is trying to memorize it and im gloating over the fact that I am totally confident with the words and emphasis.. In our class were being graded on a curve, so im competing with several other people who chose this speech... suckers

  • its not cheating it is getting a head start

  • Dang. This speech is hard to remember!

  • Oh, my goodness! I'm memorizing this speech for English, and I only know half. It's hard to remember.

  • I have to act this out in drama... im like half way done

  • This speak is really one of the most definitive works in the English language.

  • what is up with honors english teachers and making us memorize this speech

  • @krazykappy whats up with university level drama making us memorize this speech??

  • @krazykappy try 8th grade english teachers!

  • @krazykappy because it was one of the most bitchin speeches in this play and of Shakespeares's plays. this guy just makes it... okay.

  • haha i dont have to remember it tho!

  • he was not amobitious..

    waa~! Love diz part!

  • We just studied this play in honors english and it is great

  • amen!

  • hey guys can u tell me where can i find the whole movie..it really helps in learning up the speeches?

or where can i find the remaining part of this scene?

  • this helped me in english too

  • haha this helped me ALOT on memerizing this speech for english

  • this helped me in english

  • i have to memorize this crap

  • yes nice video!!!!!..just what i needed...ily..haha..this will really help me..coz im a contestant in poetry at my school and i quite have a hard tym delivering some words...haha tnx so much..xoxo

  • I have to memorize this speech. As nerdy as it sounds, Shakespeare has always been a good write, I believe. Granted, he's a little overrated and sometimes his plots can get away from him, but he still one of the best and probably will remain as such.

  • @JRAisHOT

Shakespeare and overrated are two words which should never mingle in the least.

The guy was on an entirely different level from all other English speakers ever to touch pen to paper.

  • the idea behind this example of oratory is how words can bring about emotion, and how a very precise use of tone and delivery can incite very specific reactions..notice how his tone changes each time he says "honorable man" so that by the last time he says it, it means just the opposite! Mark Antony knows that Brutus had a hand in Caesar's death and is trying to turn the crowd in his own favor. Shakespeare was a genius. You all should listen to other speeches to see how language truly works.

  • i really like wat he did,!

    good job!

  • OK, but he needs more irony in the finale. It's also missing a bit.

"You are not wood, you are not stones, but men..."

    and later

"Oh now you weep. THESE ARE GRACIOUS DROPS."

But most glaring: "I am but a plain blunt man that loves my friend -- and that they know full well who gave me public leave to speak of him. For I have neither wit nor words, nor worth, action or utterance, or the power of speech to stir men's blood.... "

Then it's missing the reading of the will.

    Just my $0.02.

  • dats really awesum man!! hats off to d actor... he put a life into d character of antony... great act! loved it! straight 5 stars!!!

  • It is interesting that all those commenting are students of English! I know this play vaguely but i've read Antony & cleopatra and today when i was also a student and today i will start shooting a 3 min movie inspired from this play. It is about 2female friends Alexandra and Breta(after Alexander and Brutus)one of them will kill the other.

  • wow, i remember memorizing this speech for a play in 5th grade...

  • i had 2 memorize this speach

  • i chose this speech for my speech contest at school...and its tommorow...lol

  • i have to give that speech in my shakespeare class tomarow, dont think i'll give it as good as that though lol

  • I am currently reading this play in my English Class. So far, I love the storyline and today, we have just finished this scene in class. William Shakespeare was quite a good writer indeed.

  • I'm 15 and my English class is reading The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. I feel compelled to say, in response to earlier comments, that I understand this play very well. It is also a terribly interesting play in itself. So before you stereotype...think. Thank you.

  • im 12 and i understand it (not really) pretty well, but i am a poetry fanatic and i have read 3 other shakespeare books. the kids in my class dont really understand it, except for my friend who has a 12th grade vocabulary. yay.

    but this is sad:'(

  • I'm 16, and I find Julius Ceasar to be a wonderful piece of literature. I really enjoyed reading this in my English class. I'm quite sure I fully understood the meaning of the story also, despite the fact that most of the class didn't. So, I figure, if you pay attention, open up a bit and listen, most anyone can understand it. It's just that it's quite different from modern language, that many people don't TRY to understand. They just complain.

I love most of Shakespear's work, actually :3

  • Oh my... Lol

I misspelled Caesar in my first comment.

    Fogive my mistake :0

  • i have the book version of this play with one side shakespears version and the other side an english translation

  • But... Shakespeare wrote in english.

I do not believe I understand.

  • due in two days.... i gotta recite that. Could be much worse. I like getting all intense and into it. It's a good one to memorize.

  • i remember my English literature teacher......Mr. P.Devasia.he had memorized these lines and he used to say them with such passion..was great fun in his class

  • I think he is better than M. Brando. Really inspiring, love it ;-)

  • maybe i will also have to present this tomorrow... good funeral oration... but i can't learn it!!!

    LONG LIVE U2!!

can someone give me an advice to learn it quicker¿¿¿ ty

  • see the video a 10 times in full loud ear bursting audible volume

  • I gotta recite this shit tommorow, and I don't know a word.

  • same here

  • this speech kicks butt. i have to memorize it for school but i still think its really cool.

  • In order to understand this play, (and I mean really understand it) You have to be an adult. This play deals with so many emotional issues of the time. The whole play is just amazing. I find it sad that people are asked to memorize certain scenes, and they don't understand anything about the history of the time or the importance of their lines which they are memorizing.

  • honestly i really dont agree with that. Im a sophmore in high school i love this play, I love the entire time period of which it is in and the entire aspect of this play is amazing. And just to let u know, I fully understand the importance of Antonys speech and i enjoy listening to it time and time again

  • Pretenious, you just turn 18?

  • I have to disagree with you there. You understand and enjoy a play if you have an open mind and want to understand it. There's nothing that excludes kids from watching it.

I'm sure there are plenty of adults who don't see the value in a play like this. Therefore, it really depends on the person, not one's age.

  • Though this is rather late, I feel I must give my own word into a certain quote of yours

"You have to be an adult" in reference to any teenager(young adult) being able to understand it.

I'm sorry to say, but I am no adult. Yet I find the meaning of the play rather easy. Though, I admit, many hardly understand it. However, I cannot let a quote, as patrionizing at this, left unguarded.

If someone had spoken first on the matter, I give them kudos. And know I was not bashing.

    Thank you

  • I agree, one of the best.

Very Sad that people are watching this to learn "How to do it" as the only way really do a speech is to become the character which is a personal journey that is different for every actor!

    Pure Stan!!!

  • kinda sad the only people responding are saying "i have to memorize this for school" like as if no one would care about this speech except for boring school stuff

this is the greatest speech in history

  • very touching speech

  • grt to hear this and in outdoor theater production it is amazing. helps greatly with my masters thesis on relationship between antony and octavian. well done Nic.

  • yeah its much appreciated it's helped me study the speech thank you very much

  • saved my report thx for the post

  • Yay! I am so glad this is here! I need to learn this speech in three days and this has helped a lot! Thanks!

  • Does this scene end here in this version, or does Anthony read the will right after this moment as it is normally in the play?

It seems a different interpretation of Anthony than Brando's in Mankiewicz's Julius Caesar, but great as well, impressive acting.

  • Perhaps one reason the interpretation differs is that this is a video from an outdoor theatre production where the audience is 10-20 yards away whereas Brando was playing to a camera lens.

    Thanks for the comments.
