Big respect to Robson. I'm Canadian and have spent much time in Brazil living with my wife and training jiu-jitsu. I seen stuff in the favelas that would drop your jaw for sure. I travelled more than 4 hours some days (back and forth) to train at Fabio Gurgels academy, Alliance. There is no way Robson academy is more expensive though. I paid the equivelent of $250 a month canadian to train at Alliance but it was more than worth it to train with the best in the world.
Yea, nice story. I just wish I could afford classes with him. It makes it hard when he is charging double what other high levels trainers are charging especially in this economy. I wonder how much he paid to train when he was coming up? Well, I guess you charge what you can get.
@sclaysdharma What are you basing that on? I was just in Tampa and I was amazed at how accessible Robson's tuition and privates are. Also when you say "high level trainers" did you mean another 7 time world champ? Everything, everybody has a market value. And Robson actually teaches his classes unlike a lot of these guys who just suck you in, get you to sign a contract, then put a purple belt in there teaching. If you want to drive a Ferrari you pay the price. Otherwise stay with the Hyundai.
@sclaysdharma It's true that BJJ is expensive compared to other martial arts. If you look at this vid, how can any of us sit here at our computers and complain about the sacrifice we make for BJJ. Robson had to take a bus for an hour and a half to train, he had people shooting at him and less than zero money, and his gym was a metal bar for doing pullups. So train or don't train as you choose but please stay positive! :-)) You have no idea how lucky you are to have this opportunity.
@deboluccia No doubt Robson is great and maybe that's why he charges more than other BJJ guys like Rob Khan. And I do have an idea of how lucky I am. My wife is from Brasil and I have had the opportunity to train with some guys in Rio just at the outskirts of the Favelas.

@deboluccia Just comparing what he charges to what Del Diaz charges, although he is a top level Judoka, not Jiu Jitsu practitioner here in Tampa.
