  • I'd rather be the devil, to be that woman man

I'd rather be the devil, to be that woman man

Aw, nothin' but the devil, changed my baby's mind

Was nothin' but the devil, changed my baby's mind

I laid down last night, laid down last night

I laid down last night, tried to take my rest

My mind got to ramblin', like a wild geese

From the west, from the west

  • The woman I love, woman that I loved

Woman I loved, took her from my best friend

But he got lucky, stoled her back again

But he got lucky, stoled her back again

  • nice nice nice nice nice song!! .....and...it's like he's singing about my girl...:)

  • nice nice nice nice nice song!!

  • I really wish people would stop writing their age like it fucking matters - we get it - you're white, a teenager, and you found this music. Please stop saying it like it's a unique thing, I'm sure a ton of teenagers have heard this.

  • i agree 100% honorablebradio, i'm a few years older than you but am also white & from the uk i know nothing of the hard life sonhouse, robert johnson lived but there music comes from a place all humans feel no matter if you lived in the delta in the 1930's or you live in 2009 in london uk. anyone with a true soul can feel the blues,it hits you in a place no other music gets you. i only found proper blues about a year ago but i've been addicted ever since. i'm a delta junkie lol

  • Anyone can feel any kind of music. No one disputes that; it belongs to nature of music to influence feelings. The dispute is over the generalization of musical styles - because, as a result of the modern diversity of genres, people tend to allow themselves to be artistically raped, for lack of any sufficient principle of selection.

  • Skip James originated a style of blues called the "Bentonia School", primarily focussing on droning notes, open minor tunings & chord voicings that were later used by other players. Bentonian blues is named for the town Skip James came from, Benton, Mississippi & is characterised by an eerie sound. It's quite a rare form of blues but recently gained renewed widespread interest when Skip James' tune, "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues" was used in the Coen Bros film, "O Brother, Where Art Thou".

  • Should also add, "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues" was covered by Chris Thomas King in the above film.

  • im 20 years old and white with no introduction to blues but this...this song has emotion that is felt throughout life, and i only know one person who isnt livin life. he's dead. im gunna try to learn how to play this on piano

  • If you like this tune my personal favourite tune by skip james is called Hard time killing floor blues, its in the same kinda style as this tune but its proper dirty mud blues imo.

@ ironhorsehead - i agree with most of what you say BUT i find it hard to believe someone could be moved in the same way as hearing skip james on killing floor...... to something like girls aloud or Justin timberlake.

  • I didn't suggest that. Those are entirely different kinds of music, and will necessarily influence a person in a different way than Skip James does. I meant to say that each blues musician has very personal characteristics which do not deserve to be glossed over with the term, "the blues," and that there should be more discrimination between them, in the same way that there used to be more critical discrimination between different styles of what we call classical music.
