@FriendLondonFriend Hmmm, not sure I've ever heard a more pretentious reply than that of yours to jawnps but anyways this production is brilliant. I love modern interpretation of Handel's work.
One of the strangest Messiah performances I've every seen - very interesting. Leave it to the Germans. The music is of course fantastic. The stage performance - strange, but in a surreal sort of way.
@jawnps Dear Yawnups., Are you being rude or stupid? I can't tell. Anyone familiar with the music would not say such a thing. . Even at 21 you ought to knwo that if one doesn't get something no one else can help you "get it" getting may only be obtained by the work, any work, asserting itself. . See more other interpretations of this work, that may help you. . Cheers. from, del-boy
Thank you a thousand times for uploading this masterwork. Our choir sang these two choruses last year. They aren't easy. Although the staging is very unusual, it serves a purpose: it makes pay even more attention Handel's music. Thank you again and again.
I agree with jeffamarie. I am in tears writing this. It did, I must admit take me a minute to realise what was going on and then I realised. It's just spine-tingling.
BRAVO !

Oh dear. What an odd video this is. In its favour I do like the tempo and accuracy of the chorus - you can actually hear the altos in Amen (a rarity, I can tell you) But it really isn't on, now is it? Messiah is an Oratorio of immense power and conviction - it needs no modernising, le Handel's music and Jennen's scripture choice speak for it self. It has for the last 250 years without any help from this sort of nonsense.

It's not often you come across a performance of Messiah like this, but that's what we have here. Horrible. They make a mockery of this magnificent music and the message it was meant to glorify. This is not an opera, it is an oratorio concerning the birth, life, death, resurrection, and final victory of Christ, written specifically as a theological treatise thereon; Guth has turned it into a burlesque! Do you hear that? It's the sound of Handel and Jennings rolling in their graves.
How interesting to see the sign language interpreter sign the passages from the Book of Revelation--passages that are not in the libretto of Messiah! Overall, a fascinating performance. I'll have to look for a DVD of the entire thing.

@FriendLondonFriend I love the music. I don't understand what the acting is trying to portray.

I for one like the idea of breaking out of the typical static choir and soloist performance. I don't find this offensive at all.
