@hbk307 I am an Old Corps Marine. Unfortunately, I don't know much about what today's Corps is all about. I have heard rumors of several things that turn my stomach. In my day, Marines were the most caring fighting force in existence. We befriended anyone who wanted our friendship, and if they raised arms against us, we were kind and loving enough to arrange a meeting with them and their God.

@Strigonov Agreed. I don't see how anyone should be placed in charge of the military if they haven't the slightest idea of what our military men and women go through. Even our commander in chief doesn't realize what it is like to serve as a member of the military, and he's the one in charge of it. I have noticed that regardless of political party, most presidents who served treat the military with more respect. Most, not all as history shows.
@tmendez31 and I say the old corps is dead because I use to listen to our 1sgt talk to other 1sgts and they shared that real bother hood mentality. I spoke with Vietnam vets, gulf war vets, ww2 vets that spoke of such a great thing. Now they're disgusted. So in my opinion the old Corps died in the late 90s. Just my opinion.

That "young" marine was just that, "young and ignorant", a terrible loss over a useless war, but young and ignorant indeed. @yourdaddy20192 Sorry, too many mistakes to be believable. Marines don't refer to themselves as infantrymen, nor do they refer to other Marines as pussies. Gung-ho is used in the army. What was your MOS? Where did you go to MCT? In boot camp, what was your platoon, company, and battalion? What was your unit as an "infantryman" as you call it?
@tmendez31 Gung-ho is not an army term senior brethren. Major Carlson commander of 2nd marines raiders used it all the time. He picked up from his friend and it's part of marine slang as well as army. Infantrymen or man for it's singular term is a front line soldier or marine aka a grunt, beetle cruncher, bullet sponge, koopa troopa, turtleman etc etc.
@tmendez31 I was in 2002-2006. I didn't go through MCT. The Marine Combat training battalion is for non-infantry personnel. They're training is condensed to I believe a month. I went through Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) for two months, before being pushed out into the fleet. The training you have gone through by no means compares to the training we have now. The boot camp you knew is gone.
@tmendez31 The last boot camp company to through anything resembling you're boot camp experience to an extent is Fox company in 2005. The general in charge of training there I believe retired or moved and was replace by a female general. Boot camp was changed, from my understanding speaking to juniors, you weren't allowed to say kill anymore, because it was to violent and I heard the hikes are done with the new molly pack, not the molly pack itself, but the assault pack.
Please keep in mind, that I never said ALL infantry marines are pussies I said a majority are, there are exceptions to rule. And I'm basing that on my 4 years of experience there. I blame and would like to thank mothers of America (MOA) for the pussification of our boot camp and feminism for feminizing our young men that join. A majority of young marines are ignorant to our history, which for the most part is fabricated. That and the marine corps has lost it's touch...
@tmendez31 The assault pack looks like regular school backpack. Those were one of many changes in boot camp training or so I heard from my juniors. That and the drill instructors have stricter rules to abide by now, to many recruit failures and not enough coming in, would lead me to believe for such a change. In boot camp I was charlie company PLT 141 MCRD SAN.
@yourdaddy20192 I was in platoon 3049, Mike Company. 3rd battalion. We did not have the crucible back then, if they still have it now. We never called our Drill Instructors anything but "sir" until we were dismissed. But I do believe bro that you are missing one number from your platoon number. I have heard rumors of stress cards and other wimpy crap. It does turn my stomach to hear such things. And we used ALICE packs. All-purpose Light-weight Individual Carrying Equipment.

It was a big fuck you, as I was leaving, as they laughed and said I wouldn't amount to shit. No, stress cards yet, that's for the Army. I believe recruits who are near mental break down are left alone for a lil while and receive a pep talk. I had my juniors pin me, pissed off the higherr ups

We're more worried about looking "good" in our blues, charlies, deltas, and alphas than we are about training for our next deployment. The last 2 years I was in I spent about 7 months out of those 2 years actually training for combat, this was with a fresh boot drop mind you. I was worried about my juniors who would deploy without proper training, but it's OK they'll look great in their uniforms...

@tmendez31 Best group of guys I've ever served with were marines who enlisted in 97. They were reservists who decided to go active duty after coming back from Baghdad. Those guys were the baddest marines I've ever met. Their juniors were always on point. They were all business during work hours, people you can talk you when work is done. They out performed officers, shit some of their juniors are officers now. See to me that's real leadership. Enlisted guys making officers.

The Marines I coached knew I demanded their respect no matter there rank, and only one Marine I taught beat my score of 60 out of 65. But think again if you think some ignorant person like you affects me by trying to claim I never served. My only regret was leaving the Corps. Perhaps not now with all the changes.

@RuthlessWhiteman01 Actually I was an 8531 by second MOS. A PMI is an 8532. A real Marine grunt would, or at least should know this. Using the word poges only shows you may have looked online for Marine jargon. Although I would agree most of the grunts I saw were white, a large number were still hispanic or black. But the three Marines booted out for being homosexual during my 6 years were all white.

Most were white, but if you understand English, a large part doesn't mean the larger part, just a large part. But since you are obviously NOT a US Marine since most of the Marines I knew in 2nd Force Recon Battalion at Camp Lejeune were actually black. Sorry, no credibility. I almost never heard gung-ho used, only when I would visit ft bragg during our annual training there. I've seen many young Marines in there early 20's run miles in boots and uts (yoots) even wearing gas masks. Most of the grunt units trained hardcore. However, the corps may have changed since I left. But your response will speak volumes.
@tmendez31 I would also add marines back in you're day had something called "bother hood", that in itself is a dying breed of marine. I've seen gunnys, ssgts up to officers blame their fucks up on NCOs and juniors whom later were either kicked out via court marshal or NJPd. The only marines I've ever seen possess such great qualities were older marines I'm talking marines nearing Sgt major. Rarely ever would I see a new breed with such qualities.

@yourdaddy20192 Sadly, towards the end I did have one Sergeant, Sgt. Dorsey, whose motto was CYOA. If he had admitted his mistake, he would have lost a little on his pro and con marks. But he threw me under the bus to save himself and I got office hours. Losing half of my pay hurt the most.

I had a marine who had his wife call in saying he beat her when he actually packed his things up and was living with another marine in his house with his wife, and another marine was banging his wife while he was away and he was filing for divorce, never touched her. Once this got up to command all they did was laugh and said "Well he's a gunny you're a cpl, suck it up". Nice! What great leadership we have nowadays. The old Corps is dead.

The first event I can point to was when the media released a video of the initiation of Marines who received their jump wings. The Corps what changing rapidly when I left in 1999. It's all this PC and sensitivity crap that started the downfall. Early on disciple was done very differently, when I left they pulled out charge papers for not covering your mouth when sneezing.
@tmendez31 I was an 0311 and I crossed trained with 0352s later on in my short trip 4 year trip in the suck. Marines do refer to themselves as infantrymen. They refer to themselves as grunts as well. It all refers to the 03xx MOS designator. Marines back in you're day, if I say so myself had more testosterone and didn't act like whiny bitches. We had plenty of NCOs getting in trouble because he kept juniors past their libo time to teach them how to probably clear a room.

Technical experience and certifications are sometimes more desired than a now useless college degree. My US History teacher said she's still paying for her useless Doctorate degree.

Have you not heard of the officer corps? A very large portion of military personnel are officer and receive their commission upon graduating college. Just like the civilian world, there are low level jobs and there are management jobs. Seriously, your generalization if flawed...

George Washington was called 'the running general' for a reason. he did hit n runs all along the British (more like German Mercenary) lines. Marine pilots hit then RUN all day long. Marine corps infantry units... hit n run. Modern combat, if you don't run in a bad position, you die. Hence she's wrong. Marines run all the time. It's part of combat.

If you want to argue history, the Marines couldn't have accomplished the WWII island hopping campaign. What was your MOS? Where did you go to MCT? In boot camp, what was your platoon, company, and battalion? What was your unit as an "infantryman" as you call it?

He picked up from his friend and it's part of marine slang as well as army. Infantrymen or man for it's singular term is a front line soldier or marine aka a grunt, beetle cruncher, bullet sponge, koopa troopa, turtleman etc etc.

@tmendez31 I was in 2002-2006. I didn't go through MCT. The Marine Combat training battalion is for non-infantry personnel. They're training is condensed to I believe a month. I went through Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) for two months, before being pushed out into the fleet. The training you have gone through by no means compares to the training we have now. The boot camp you knew is gone.

The general in charge of training there I believe retired or moved and was replace by a female general. Boot camp was changed, from my understanding speaking to juniors, you weren't allowed to say kill anymore, because it was to violent and I heard the hikes are done with the new molly pack, not the molly pack itself, but the assault pack.

That and the drill instructors have stricter rules to abide by now, to many recruit failures and not enough coming in, would lead me to believe for such a change. In boot camp I was charlie company PLT 141 MCRD SAN.

We never called our Drill Instructors anything but "sir" until we were dismissed. But I do believe bro that you are missing one number from your platoon number. I have heard rumors of stress cards and other wimpy crap. It does turn my stomach to hear such things. And we used ALICE packs. All-purpose Light-weight Individual Carrying Equipment.

We're more worried about looking "good" in our blues, charlies, deltas, and alphas than we are about training for our next deployment. The last 2 years I was in I spent about 7 months out of those 2 years actually training for combat, this was with a fresh boot drop mind you. I was worried about my juniors who would deploy without proper training, but it's OK they'll look great in their uniforms...

@tmendez31 Best group of guys I've ever served with were marines who enlisted in 97. They were reservists who decided to go active duty after coming back from Baghdad. Those guys were the baddest marines I've ever met. Their juniors were always on point. They were all business during work hours, people you can talk you when work is done. They out performed officers, shit some of their juniors are officers now. See to me that's real leadership. Enlisted guys making officers.

The Marines I coached knew I demanded their respect no matter there rank, and only one Marine I taught beat my score of 60 out of 65. But think again if you think some ignorant person like you affects me by trying to claim I never served. My only regret was leaving the Corps. Perhaps not now with all the changes.

Using the word poges only shows you may have looked online for Marine jargon. Although I would agree most of the grunts I saw were white, a large number were still hispanic or black. But the three Marines booted out for being homosexual during my 6 years were all white.

I almost never heard gung-ho used, only when I would visit ft bragg during our annual training there. I've seen many young Marines in there early 20's run miles in boots and uts (yoots) even wearing gas masks. Most of the grunt units trained hardcore. However, the corps may have changed since I left. But your response will speak volumes.

I've seen gunnys, ssgts up to officers blame their fucks up on NCOs and juniors whom later were either kicked out via court marshal or NJPd. The only marines I've ever seen possess such great qualities were older marines I'm talking marines nearing Sgt major. Rarely ever would I see a new breed with such qualities.

The first event I can point to was when the media released a video of the initiation of Marines who received their jump wings. The Corps what changing rapidly when I left in 1999. It's all this PC and sensitivity crap that started the downfall. Early on disciple was done very differently, when I left they pulled out charge papers for not covering your mouth when sneezing.

@tmendez31 I was an 0311 and I crossed trained with 0352s later on in my short trip 4 year trip in the suck. Marines do refer to themselves as infantrymen. They refer to themselves as grunts as well. It all refers to the 03xx MOS designator. Marines back in you're day, if I say so myself had more testosterone and didn't act like whiny bitches. We had plenty of NCOs getting in trouble because he kept juniors past their libo time to teach them how to probably clear a room.

Technical experience and certifications are sometimes more desired than a now useless college degree. My US History teacher said she's still paying for her useless Doctorate degree.
We live in a society where our parents like to tell us when we are little, "If you want a good job, then go to school/college." That may be true to some extent, but not always the case.

Think of it as your immune system. It protects your body from constant hordes of pathogens and diseaes, but you take it for granted because they always do a good job of protecting you.

@FLICKtheUSA Not true. The minimum citizenship requirement to join the military is at least a green card. Only legal permanent residents and citizens can join the Armed Forces. Green Card holders pay taxes too.

It's a simple fact that the mission of the USMC (see NSA of 1947), to carry out amphibious operations for the successful prosecution of a land campain. If you want to argue history, the Marines couldn't have accomplished the WWII island hopping campaign.
