this is evident in the "trust the government" 1950's mentality type typical in the older subsets of the population.

Part of the problem is that most of the later-middle aged to older people are still largely the voice of the nation. Many(but not all)of these people still rely on the conventional mass media for information and consequent decision making. Typically younger people, who may rely on less biased forms of information gathering like the web(depending on their filtering skills),are not yet as influential in society but may be in fact more well informed than their elders.

The media-culture is feeding society in a way formal education cannot do. Since the average American cannot afford a college education, television and mainstream media become the repository of knowledge for the overworked, overstressed, underpaid American citizen. What North American society needs desperately is to learn how to engage in critical thinking; it needs to learn how to deconstruct its media and systems of government.
