A really precious track that points to his ability to creat emotion through the sound of his horn and by the stark beauty of his musical ideas. He did this 'on the spot' ... all throughout his career, recreating new ideas from familiar chord progressions and extending the language of jazz (music) with his understatement and vibrato less tone... a virtuoso on the horn
i went to see him with paul bley, mid-'80's. bley played a set, then, a pause, another bley set, another bley set. then bley walked him out and helped him get seated on a stool. chet couldn't play.
our way out was slowed by the line-up forming for refunds. i saw things differently and said to my friend, loud enough so most people in line heard, "chet baker has given the world so much pleasure, let's leave the $ for him."
sure enough, others got out of the refund line-up and followed us out.
@mispistoleros Very tragic story. I dont think people really realize how sad and pain filled Chet's life was. The thing was Chet's sorrow was so transparent in his work, he could display it better than any other trumpet player ive ever heard. It breaks my heart every time I listen to him. I really wish i had been able to meet him and tell him how much I appreciate his music.
@natgg100, addiction is a terrible thing, beyond the comprehension of most. his transparency was what made him so great, whether singing or playing his trumpet.
It's a shame what heroin addiction can do to a man. Chet Baker was such a handsome guy and perhaps one of the best horn players & singers of the American song book - while it was sad to see his face worn - yet it went with his music so well. Thank you.. Well done!
Meravigliose immagini, rende la tua intenzione. Thks!

i wonder how many people are aware that he never learned to read music...he did everything by ear.
