why do people ask for strum patterns?

just listen to it by ear

the chords are harder to get but the strum is easy

its down, down(the you mute),up, down, up, and down and then you just do that for the rest of the song but when you do the strumming pattern you stop for like 2 secs and then do it again and so on..thats how the band does it not like in this video( although it is a good cover)
