@jaiminhas Yeah but his story is getting a bit old now. I think its time for Capcom to change it up a little. Ever since it came out the story for him has been "Why do I keep fighting? I need to find stronger opponents to find the answer, blah blah blah." Change it up Capcom!
@xquickstrykex yeah ur right its begining to get frustrating of Ryu getts always the ending of his path to the true warrior maybe capcom should put Ryu's ending like he finally reached the level of master and defeated akuma and then he began a new life, but always practices martial arts
@jaiminhas yeah its getting repetitive...I know the gameplay is more important and all but the story is fun to follow too but not when its the same thing every game.
@xquickstrykex true youre right. or maybe like ryu could have a "dark side" ending like he turned into evil ryu and fought against akuma. then the rest lies on Street Fighter V since SF4 didnt come up with this idea
@jaiminhas Yeah that would be cool. They might as well do that because if V comes out and its the same shit again, i'll be disappointed in capcom. The same way im disappointed with the character roster in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Y'know, Gouken has a daughter, but Capcom Japan was too lazy to continue with the character. Read up Gouken's section of the Street Fighter Plot Canon Guide on Gamefaqs, to search, press Ctrl and f together, thr maintainer will explain it, type in the section, for Gouken's, it's pgVGoukrn, got it?
can you immagine fighting ryu if he only had the strength to move one of his fingers? it'd probably be like that movie, i forget which one, where he was drunk at the begining and some random dudes whooped his ass
I understand the whole lone wolf/warrior bit, but how can someone fight for no reason. He's trying to discover why he fights. Trying to seek out some reason in the whole thing other than this is all I know. Ken should be that Character that helps him find his answer. Ken fights for the sake of those he cares for, because he has a life and knows how to value it. Ryu wants to be peaceful meditated fist face, yet he seeks to become stronger. This is why he struggles internally. No direction.
I think that Ken also has the potential for the Satsui no Hadou, and since Ryu had the Satsui no Hadou sealed off by Gouken in SF4, Ryu has to find something else to struggle with.
Gouken didn't seal it off. He's not Naruto. Gouken just defeated it with the power of nothingness. Satsui no Hadou is a technique that takes in the aid of the Demons by trying to tap into destructive power using vain thoughts and meditations set on winning with a disregard of the well being of the opponent. Malice, Rage, blood lust, despiration, self glorification, etc. Ryu has to not allow the battle to consume him, but enjoy the martial art in the battle like Ken.
Ken enjoys the fight and likes to test his metal against Ryu. If he fights serious it most likely wont b against him. They just spar 2 show off progression and technique. He's a happy guy who feels rich at heart because of the friends and family that makes him feel wealthy. He doesn't even care about the money. He likes 2 fight n loves his wife. There is no need to search for more power within your fist if life doesn't demand that you become stronger. Thus we've yet to c his true power unveiled.
@DarkStarFist you bring up an interesting point. may I interject?
this is something that is very hard for a westerner to understand.
and even more so regarding the fact that translations were extremely difficult to pull off back when the streetfighter games were made before IV.
as a martial pascifist, he's seeking enlightenment, complete understanding. he understands right from wrong. he understands that violence has a place as does pascifism.
@Rougamaru what he wants to understand, what he NEEDS to understand, is much harder to put into words, he wants to understand the true meaning and purpose of power, in all it's form and splendor, and what a warrior, someone who has power in the form of the martial arts, is meant to use their power for. ryu wants to understand the world. to put it rather cliche'dly, he is trying to unravel one of the mysteries of the universe.
it's ok if you don't understand. nearly nobody does. namaste.
@Rougamaru Ok. so answer me this. Do you think that it makes sense for a man to seek peace thru violence? or do u believe that peace and war(violence) merges how light and dark cannot?
"to find safety, one must go to the heart of danger."-Bruce Lee.
only through experiencing the chaos and turmoil of battle, of the world without, can we begin to cultivate peace and harmony in the world within. only by facing and over coming real life challenges and learning and bettering ourselves through them, can we advance. only through trials and tribulations do we find ourselves, or find ourselves lacking. the answer lies in the heart of battle.
@Rougamaru True when speaking about the battle of subjection, which means that it was something outside of your control, but what say U when a man leaps into battle out of lustful enjoyment to seek peace. Is he not like a beast? Only acting on what he know's not what he seeks to learn?
@DarkStarFist aside from when he is being corrupted by the satsui no hadou, or in otherwords, when he becomes "evil ryu", or in flash backs of a younger, more immature ryu, when has ryu ever "leaped into battle out of lustful enjoyment" as you so put it?
as for his enjoyment of battle, he enjoy's sparring with his friends, and testing himself, and the art he learned from gouken. you may have heard of this in anime, but some can only show their heart of hearts through the arts or combat.
@Rougamaru as an advanced martial artist, I can honestly say, when ever I fight someone, I gain an intimate understanding of them. I connect to them. I am by no means alone in this. I know you will probably doubt this, but I ask you, have you ever been close to some one? just had a deeper understanding of a woman after sharing a night of passionate lovemaking together?
ryu's passion is communicated through the art of combat. he understands others better through fighting them when challenged.
@Rougamaru and finally, the way of the warrior, indeed, all paths, are endless. ryu will spend his entire life wandering, training, and fighting, learning and growing in experience, understanding, and wisdom. I hope that he finds his answer, as he has already begun to do so as shown in the ties that bind when he defeated seth, and that he obtains that small measure of peace we all invariably search for, but seldom ever find.
@Rougamaru do not feel agrevated or anoyed if you still cannot understand this or grasp the concepts brought up in this discussion.
you are of the west, and as such, have only a limited understanding of the people and culture of the orient, and by extension, what ryu represents.
if you wish to expand your horizons, I suggest visiting your local library and renting some books on the subject, or visiting a respectable and reputable cultural study site of good standing.
@Rougamaru First of all, i have fought plenty only on my battle lust. if i had no desire for battle i would not have fought. your arguement is still vague and blind. U will actually be blinded by what u share as two people who like to fight then enlightened. The true issues of a person is covered up by primative acts. What a man cannot speak about, he will fight about. only because he is too afraid to let that part of himself be shared.
@DarkStarFist if you fight only out of a lust for battle, how can you understand one who doesn't? indeed, are you not blinding yourself to the possibility of other reasons to engage in combat? do you not become jaded?
even when it is "two people who like to fight" if they are fighting for the right reasons, and in the right ways, then you will gain a deeper understanding of yourself at least, and more than likely the one you face as well.
this understanding can then be applied to the world
@Rougamaru Second, Ryu has always jumped into fights out of lustful and enjoyment and not only when he turned evil. Westerner my foot. when ever u easteners don't want to accept something dishonerable about yourselves u try to come up with some sort of other side to blame it on. Let me teach you about Ryu pupil of Gouken. he and Ken had a little competition on who can be famous first. Ryu went out to thailand beating up as many fighters as he could until he eventually pissed off Sagat.
@DarkStarFist when the japanese, my ancestors, started their part in WW2, we commited grave atrocities, all out of a warped sense of bushido, of pride, on nationalism. we all know that what we did was foolish and in many ways, evil. we take full responsibility for our actions. orientals do realize that there are so many cultural differences between the east and the west that understanding is extremely difficult.
do you have any evidence of such a competition ever taking place? I know of none.
@Rougamaru He turned evil because he cannot accept a lost. He actually tries to call it not failing his master when in all actuality he hates losing. Which is only a reflection of the Japanese pride and fanboyism that his creators have for him. Example: they went so far as to have him look like a Japanese superman in sf4. Don't get caught up in your own pride and try and justify ignorance with your namaste. Some people just really enjoy fighting. its a lust for battle.
@DarkStarFist we are all born ready to win, but none are born ready to lose. ryu was still young and learning of the world he had been seperate from for most of his life. not wanting to lose, and not wanting to fail his master were the same thing to him then. as he continued his journey, he learned to accept defeat, and that he could only fail his master by taking an evil path. "power is pointless if not used to make the world a better place."-gouken. enjoy fighting, but better yourself with it.
@Rougamaru Ok i'll respect that your culture has this rooted deep into it. unlike us who just practice because we think its cool. i guess if we too lived in a world where our fists can open up a conversation about life on the street instead of prison we would have a greater respect for it. but only your people could teach that. hatred and wickedness has made it not so innocent.
@DarkStarFist not to so much say that i would want for that, we all our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, but i would spar with someone to reach their heart if it were necessary, but its not. A soldier and a Minister could still share their opposite paths with one another. And still find a relation somewhere outside of themselves
@DarkStarFist Hes also a hobo with no educational or job future. Who travels around with hardly any money if not none. And probably has infections and diseases. Where as Ken has a family is rich enjoys life and is healthy. Ryu needs to grow up honestly it seems like hes not looking at his lack of direction and just walks a path with no end.
@ManowarHeigou ryu is meant to be an example of a wandering warrior. largely free of worldly possessions and earthly attachments. indeed, if not for ken he would have no one to care for, he would be completely unattached to humanity. as for wordly posessions, he has only what he needs to survive. has he ever shown any real health problems? I can remember none.
are ryu, the amish, or the tribal peoples of africa wrong in choosing a simpler, deeper way of life? you should consider this deeply.
@Rougamaru Anything is deep if you look at it like that i look at it in the way of being alone and futureless with only fighting. Fighting cant help you find everything. And thats all Ryu is. Atleast Ken has some ideals on how to go about life in a social manner.
he perfectly personifies the ideal of the "wandering warrior."
he's not meant to be a normal human character, even by the standards of this series. ken on the other hand, IS meant to be a realistic character. he's the "modern day american martial artist/inheritor of an american industrial/fanancial legacy." and as such, ken is much easier to relate to and understand. ryu's path is not a bad one, just extremely different from the way people are brought up.
@ManowarHeigou But no one really knows why ryu fights or what will he gain from fighting but ken on the other hand has got what he want from fighting (money, mansion, wife, son and a student). I guess you could say ryu want to walk to the path of warrior without being consumed by the satsu no hadou (evil ryu) then a social life like ken. They both like fighting but both has different paths and that why i like ryu. ryu ftw
@DarkStarFist Not exactly, Ryu is actually confused within the practices of his own art. The original art is designed for him to reach the status similar to Akuma. All of Ryu and Ken's attacks are actually just basics of the art. But, he doesn't want to become Evil Ryu. The problem is, to become stronger in his art, he must accept the dark hadou and reach closer to becoming like Akuma. Ryu wants to become stronger, but in his own way. Thus, making it a difficult unknown path of enlightenment.
@DarkStarFist Dude....Ryu simply put, loves to fight. Thats what he lives for. Him fighting for no reason is what makes him awesome. The whole, I fight to protect people, or I fight to become the champion or get rich, Is what we see for A Lot of characters. Ryu's a natural born fighter....only lives to fight. what makes him the strongest/ best fighter ever IMO....Is his dedication which cant be matched.
@DarkStarFist LOL you dont understand Ryu at all, try practicing some Martial Art you really really like...
Some people fight only for money, others for fame, others fight because they want to achieve something/whatever in life, but, When you really like what you do, you fight for passion and because it runs in your veins, then you start setting goals for yourself... Either you want to prove yourself how far you can go , or you want to test the limits of your strength, THATS Ryu
Beyond your view on Ryu, which is accurate, there is a greater truth. The truth is that there is no end to the pursuit of greatness, not because it's hard, but because it can't be achieved with such selfish intentions. To put it another way, life is pointless, the only meaning it has is the meaning we give it, therefore the question is not how do I become the greatest, but rather what do I choose to value as the greatest. Application of the latter is the only true path to greatness.
Thank you, I'm glad you connected with my words. To simplify what I was trying to say; "Life's what you make it", which is also the title of a good Talk Talk song. : ) Thanks again.
@DarkStarFist His reason is simple, he fights to become stronger. He wants to be stronger than what he was yesterday, he wants to reach a level like no other then surpass that level Etc.
well the street fighter 4 ties that binds movie looks like it takes place after 2 but for some reason in the sf4 game it looks like it takes place during the alpha sereies because of sakura, dan, rose, and gen
the next street fighter should be after street fighter 3 that be kool coz thats like the furthest the story ever got da other 1 Alpha are prequels b4 street fighter 2
so Street Fighter 3 iz the furthest the street fighter story got
SFIV is set in 1993/4, a year after the end of SFII. It's like an interquel, between SFII and SFIV. That's why the cast of SFII is back, with a few new editions attached to that extended storyline.
So in SFII, Ryu is 28. In SFIV, he's 29. In SFIII, he's 33-ish. If they were to make a sequel set in the mid-2000s, he would be in his 40s.
Aaah.... Ryu... Will you ever have a single ending beyond yet another variation of 'I must fight more strong opponents!'
And there are people who get mad if you call this guy boring. (In spite of the fact that 8-bit characters had the karateman look before he ever did. Not even making that original.)
Ryu, you're boring. Get a personality beyond 'I must fight more strong opponents!'
u dont know shit about street fighter n ryu storyline n no am not getting mad cause u said ryu is boring well im not mad at all but here something that get u mad if u cry more about it n tell capcom about it maybe they will feel sry for u and give u a t-shirt that say IM A DOUCHE BAGG
Street Fighter III was originally not going to have Ryu and Ken in it focusing on Alex as the new lead. During testing the outcry was so much they added them =p
Street Fighter Revolves around the Journeys of Ryu. He is the main Character of the series. in Chronological order, Street Fighter Alpha (series), Street Fighter, Street Fighter 2, and then Street Fighter 3. Alpha is Ryu and Ken's Past, Street Fighter is Ryu's Training, SF2 is the Tournament. SF3 is Ryu continuing to train while Ken Fights in the Tournament while training is new recruit, Sean. It totally makes sense
@AJ15ist Yeah, I just realized that when I read Sakura's bio after I wrote that. Alpha was the training for SF2 after everyone's amazement with Ryu's dominance in the first tournament, as well as Akuma stepping in to test his strength against his brother's best pupil
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Street fighter ahhhhhh how little i was. I remember playing this on my dreamcast. Simple times. Shit game though, except for that hidden character that was a god....strange
True...if there was a character that I can say I based a bit of my life philosophy on it would be the Ryu whom had shape into a person that strives to be better at life in general even if it means fighting on to last of our own breaths....
agreed, most other fighting games main characters are anti heroes, tekken Has Jin Kazama (he declares war on almost every country in tekken 6) Siegfried From soul calibur, his only intent is to destroy the sul edge. Ryu just wants to better himself and become a true fighter
oh kool. i've truly realized that. Jin is pretty powerful. but Idk Ryu is just the ideal warrior for me.. hopefully Street Fighter 4 will be even better
someone who isnt a real warrior would never understand the path

Satsui no Hadou is a technique that takes in the aid of the Demons by trying to tap into destructive power using vain thoughts and meditations set on winning with a disregard of the well being of the opponent. Malice, Rage, blood lust, despiration, self glorification, etc. Ryu has to not allow the battle to consume him, but enjoy the martial art in the battle like Ken.
DarkStarFist 2 years ago 4

Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru what he wants to understand, what he NEEDS to understand, is much harder to put into words, he wants to understand the true meaning and purpose of power, in all it's form and splendor, and what a warrior, someone who has power in the form of the martial arts, is meant to use their power for. ryu wants to understand the world. to put it rather cliche'dly, he is trying to unravel one of the mysteries of the universe.
it's ok if you don't understand. nearly nobody does. namaste.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru Ok. so answer me this. Do you think that it makes sense for a man to seek peace thru violence? or do u believe that peace and war(violence) merges how light and dark cannot?
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist yes, it makes perfect sense.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru True when speaking about the battle of subjection, which means that it was something outside of your control, but what say U when a man leaps into battle out of lustful enjoyment to seek peace. Is he not like a beast? Only acting on what he know's not what he seeks to learn?
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist aside from when he is being corrupted by the satsui no hadou, or in otherwords, when he becomes "evil ryu", or in flash backs of a younger, more immature ryu, when has ryu ever "leaped into battle out of lustful enjoyment" as you so put it?
as for his enjoyment of battle, he enjoy's sparring with his friends, and testing himself, and the art he learned from gouken. you may have heard of this in anime, but some can only show their heart of hearts through the arts or combat.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru as an advanced martial artist, I can honestly say, when ever I fight someone, I gain an intimate understanding of them. I connect to them. I am by no means alone in this. I know you will probably doubt this, but I ask you, have you ever been close to some one? just had a deeper understanding of a woman after sharing a night of passionate lovemaking together?
ryu's passion is communicated through the art of combat. he understands others better through fighting them when challenged.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru and finally, the way of the warrior, indeed, all paths, are endless. ryu will spend his entire life wandering, training, and fighting, learning and growing in experience, understanding, and wisdom. I hope that he finds his answer, as he has already begun to do so as shown in the ties that bind when he defeated seth, and that he obtains that small measure of peace we all invariably search for, but seldom ever find.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru do not feel agrevated or anoyed if you still cannot understand this or grasp the concepts brought up in this discussion.
you are of the west, and as such, have only a limited understanding of the people and culture of the orient, and by extension, what ryu represents.
if you wish to expand your horizons, I suggest visiting your local library and renting some books on the subject, or visiting a respectable and reputable cultural study site of good standing.
One World. namaste.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru First of all, i have fought plenty only on my battle lust. if i had no desire for battle i would not have fought. your arguement is still vague and blind. U will actually be blinded by what u share as two people who like to fight then enlightened. The true issues of a person is covered up by primative acts. What a man cannot speak about, he will fight about. only because he is too afraid to let that part of himself be shared.
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist if you fight only out of a lust for battle, how can you understand one who doesn't? indeed, are you not blinding yourself to the possibility of other reasons to engage in combat? do you not become jaded?
even when it is "two people who like to fight" if they are fighting for the right reasons, and in the right ways, then you will gain a deeper understanding of yourself at least, and more than likely the one you face as well.
this understanding can then be applied to the world
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru Second, Ryu has always jumped into fights out of lustful and enjoyment and not only when he turned evil. Westerner my foot. when ever u easteners don't want to accept something dishonerable about yourselves u try to come up with some sort of other side to blame it on. Let me teach you about Ryu pupil of Gouken. he and Ken had a little competition on who can be famous first. Ryu went out to thailand beating up as many fighters as he could until he eventually pissed off Sagat.
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist when the japanese, my ancestors, started their part in WW2, we commited grave atrocities, all out of a warped sense of bushido, of pride, on nationalism. we all know that what we did was foolish and in many ways, evil. we take full responsibility for our actions. orientals do realize that there are so many cultural differences between the east and the west that understanding is extremely difficult.
do you have any evidence of such a competition ever taking place? I know of none.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru He turned evil because he cannot accept a lost. He actually tries to call it not failing his master when in all actuality he hates losing. Which is only a reflection of the Japanese pride and fanboyism that his creators have for him. Example: they went so far as to have him look like a Japanese superman in sf4. Don't get caught up in your own pride and try and justify ignorance with your namaste. Some people just really enjoy fighting. its a lust for battle.
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist we are all born ready to win, but none are born ready to lose. ryu was still young and learning of the world he had been seperate from for most of his life. not wanting to lose, and not wanting to fail his master were the same thing to him then. as he continued his journey, he learned to accept defeat, and that he could only fail his master by taking an evil path. "power is pointless if not used to make the world a better place."-gouken. enjoy fighting, but better yourself with it.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru Ok i'll respect that your culture has this rooted deep into it. unlike us who just practice because we think its cool. i guess if we too lived in a world where our fists can open up a conversation about life on the street instead of prison we would have a greater respect for it. but only your people could teach that. hatred and wickedness has made it not so innocent.
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist not to so much say that i would want for that, we all our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, but i would spar with someone to reach their heart if it were necessary, but its not. A soldier and a Minister could still share their opposite paths with one another. And still find a relation somewhere outside of themselves
DarkStarFist 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist a fine point.
our cultures are different.
that we respect and accpet that is of great importance.
I believe we have concluded this discussion.
it has been a pleasure.
farewell.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist Hes also a hobo with no educational or job future. Who travels around with hardly any money if not none. And probably has infections and diseases. Where as Ken has a family is rich enjoys life and is healthy. Ryu needs to grow up honestly it seems like hes not looking at his lack of direction and just walks a path with no end.
ManowarHeigou 1 year ago
@ManowarHeigou ryu is meant to be an example of a wandering warrior. largely free of worldly possessions and earthly attachments. indeed, if not for ken he would have no one to care for, he would be completely unattached to humanity. as for wordly posessions, he has only what he needs to survive. has he ever shown any real health problems? I can remember none.
are ryu, the amish, or the tribal peoples of africa wrong in choosing a simpler, deeper way of life? you should consider this deeply.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@Rougamaru Anything is deep if you look at it like that i look at it in the way of being alone and futureless with only fighting. Fighting cant help you find everything. And thats all Ryu is. Atleast Ken has some ideals on how to go about life in a social manner.
ManowarHeigou 1 year ago
@ManowarHeigou ryu is a paragon.
he perfectly personifies the ideal of the "wandering warrior."
he's not meant to be a normal human character, even by the standards of this series. ken on the other hand, IS meant to be a realistic character. he's the "modern day american martial artist/inheritor of an american industrial/fanancial legacy." and as such, ken is much easier to relate to and understand. ryu's path is not a bad one, just extremely different from the way people are brought up.
Rougamaru 1 year ago
@ManowarHeigou But no one really knows why ryu fights or what will he gain from fighting but ken on the other hand has got what he want from fighting (money, mansion, wife, son and a student). I guess you could say ryu want to walk to the path of warrior without being consumed by the satsu no hadou (evil ryu) then a social life like ken. They both like fighting but both has different paths and that why i like ryu. ryu ftw
final909 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist Not exactly, Ryu is actually confused within the practices of his own art. The original art is designed for him to reach the status similar to Akuma. All of Ryu and Ken's attacks are actually just basics of the art. But, he doesn't want to become Evil Ryu. The problem is, to become stronger in his art, he must accept the dark hadou and reach closer to becoming like Akuma. Ryu wants to become stronger, but in his own way. Thus, making it a difficult unknown path of enlightenment.
zapikachu 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist Dude....Ryu simply put, loves to fight. Thats what he lives for. Him fighting for no reason is what makes him awesome. The whole, I fight to protect people, or I fight to become the champion or get rich, Is what we see for A Lot of characters. Ryu's a natural born fighter....only lives to fight. what makes him the strongest/ best fighter ever IMO....Is his dedication which cant be matched.
shadowsintox9 1 year ago
@DarkStarFist LOL you dont understand Ryu at all, try practicing some Martial Art you really really like...
Some people fight only for money, others for fame, others fight because they want to achieve something/whatever in life, but, When you really like what you do, you fight for passion and because it runs in your veins, then you start setting goals for yourself... Either you want to prove yourself how far you can go , or you want to test the limits of your strength, THATS Ryu
Joni30Stm 9 months ago 12
@Joni30Stm

His birthday is stated on those bios in the original CPS1 SF2 games that you can see if you let the game run in attract mode.
HinataChan30 3 years ago
