  • best of sega!

  • the old sonic games were the best the new ones are crap

  • i always used to go through the ring a the end... doesnt that take you to that emerald level with all the rings?!

  • omg. I remember having a mega drive and this game when i was like 6 and im 14 now! I WANT IT BACK!! lol i loved this game!!

  • lol, killing every single enemy and nabbing every single ring isn't the right way to play it, it's the OCD way to play it. :P The faster you complete the level, the more points you get for time bonus at the end.

The guy in the video at /watch?v=GMMn2j1bev4 gets a score of 66,030 for Act 1 of Green Hill Zone after blasting through the game "improperly" in 24 seconds. This perfect-ring, perfect-enemy-obliteration run of yours only produced a score of 41,230. But I like this way too. :3

  • Just That Ring Sound and The Whole Music Just Takes Me Back

  • Its about time, not score...

  • @Kyle247l It's about having fun however the player chooses to play it.

  • @Adam060756 True that, anyway I keep hearing that PAL is a mistake - what I mean is that Sega Messed up the audio frequency in which the game runs at, because the PAL Version is quite a lot slower, if so then how come the PAL Version is still the same speed in the Sega Megadrive collection for the PSP in 2006?

  • @Kyle247l Good question.

I can't prove it but I think SEGA intended Sonic 1 to be how it is in the PAL format. Yes it could be intentional, it could be a mistake or it could just be because of the nostalgia of the original PAL 1991 release as to why SEGA have re-released the PAL 50Hz version at least 5 times.

Whichever out of three you wanna believe?

  • @Adam060756 nope, you're not the only one on you tube who plays like this, look at Chemical plant zone perfect bonus ^_^

  • I do not recall our old megadrive, but once, when we got sick of the ps1 (we were getting a ps2 soon) We got the old megadrive down. we played that obsessively for weeks. one christmas my mum and dad got me the sonic megacollection+ for ps2...epic...and then you could save!

  • I don't why the music in the PAL version is better, it's not supposed to sound like that.the NTSC is better..

  • @MarioMania05 Sonic Team and SEGA of Europe released it like this deliberately in the PAL regions.

It IS supposed to sound like this.

  • @Adam060756 Here here! The NTSC version sounds like sonic on cocaine or speed. PAL version sounds like REAL music and as a result of playing slower, it doesn't cycle through each track as many times as NTSC while you play each level. Especially the marble hill zone with that 'ethnic' type music. If its faster it sounds less authentic.

  • my first ever game console:D

  • That music...wow...it's been like, I don't know, 16 years and I still could remember it.

  • I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to not fall for the cake (yellow spring/spikes) in act 3; for a while I thought I was the only one who went after the extra life, likewise with the one in Spring Yard act 2.

  • love ♥

  • I almost cried when I found out that I'd lost one of the leads to my Megadrive. I cried harder when I realised that (after spending hours finding the lead) the Sonic tape thing had broke.

  • Trop forrrrrrrt Sonic

  • Yukifumi Makino did all the sound effects for this game.

Hiroshi Kubota (Jimita), only did programming.

  • I just got a mega drive with altered beast + sonic from a charity shop yeeha

  • Remember at the start hold in all the buttons + press up down left right 3times to enter editor mode

  • Hm... This is different from the Game Gear version you can unlock in Sonic Adventure DX.

  • @Iceeman234 why?

  • @Iceeman234 not really

    its still fun to play

    i kinda like it

  • So was the music faster for the Genesis than the Megadrive? I just bought the Genesis pack for the PS3 and I knew something didn't seem right... I really miss the MegaDrive! :-(

  • @damonsmedley2

the sega genesis (NTSC 60hz) runs at a higher framerate and refresh rate where the MegaDrive (PAL 50HZ) runs at a lower framerate and refresh rate but a higher resolution that is why we have the boarder in most games.

when games were ported to PAL they werent allways done that well and sometimes resulted in slower music/gameplay.

  • @OhNoNotMyPenis Hey, that's what I've been trying to say! hehe

  • @OhNoNotMyPenis

Sometimes slower music in games is intended by game developers as such is the case here with Sonic 1. Sonic Team chose to leave this game defaulted at 50Hz and not optimize it for the PAL format which means it's perfectly normal and SEGA also re-released the PAL 50Hz version in Sonic Mega Collection in 2002 on Gamecube and in 2004 on XBox and Playstation 2.

If the PAL 50Hz version really was a mistake then SEGA would not have re-released it in Sonic Mega Collection.

  • you dont know what rings u r missing down below

  • I remember that at act 3 when u take the inverability and walk straight without jumping u die...kinda annoying!!anyway if u jumped at 7:55 u could go up there :).btw i never killed robotnik with inverability, always killed him and before frames could move it ended...Great job.And why didnt u take the big ring for the special zone?robotnik gets mad when u take all 7 chaos emeralds.Presonally i never managed to :'(

  • @l2maniacloukas

Watch the rest of the videos in the playthrough and you will see that I did enter the Special Stages, I just entered them seperately from the stage access screen from the start instead of going through the big ring.

  • @l2maniacloukas use a cheat code on the gamecube like i did xD

  • UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT A and START together :D still remember :D quality games bk in the day

  • I recently unpacked my brothers old Mega Drive and Sonic 1&2 were in there too, but the most far that I have got was the third encounter with Robotnik in the Spring Yard Zone.

  • this looks way better than the NTSC version

  • This was the first game i ever played on at the age of 6 i sucked at first always falling into spikes but after a while i started to get better and im also european so the PAL 50hz version was the one i grew up with and i still have my mega drive at home and it still works

  • This was the first game I ever played on, three years old, I had already mastered walking, burping a sentence and how much food could I fit into my mouth, sadly learning to talk had not surfaced quite yet and then my mum had the mega drive, I was crap at first it wasn't till I was four that I got better and mastered my skills. And I've loved it ever since, I still have the mega drive and Sonic and all the games today, gotta love a bit of Mega Drive

  • @Barneystudioz Wow! 3 years old? That's a very early age to start playing video games. The first game I ever played was Sonic 1 on SEGA Master System and that was in 1992 when I was 8 years old, from then on began my obsession with SEGA.

  • @Adam060756 Even then I wasn't great infact it took ages to be able to master the controls, age 4 to 5 ish i managed to operate controls and get through at least one level without dying, then I started playing on other games on the mega drive like Mega Bomberman, Alienstorm, Road Rash 3, and then of course the other Sonic games on the mega drive, ah good times

  • @Adam060756 I began at 1 or 2. playing this game.

Games have been a part of my life longer than talking has. haha

  • This msuci sounds like sonic ate alot of chili dogs before starting his journey

  • nice, 50 hz music to 60hz gameplay

  • 50Hz :(

  • You know, this is actaully fun to watch, Adrian, no joke, though :D!! The "SEEGAA" in the beginning actually brings back memories. And knowing it's you playing makes it that much more interesting :).

  • Thank you so much Holly, keep an eye on my vids in future because i'll be uploading hundreds more like this.

  • Oh, I will. I'll make this game special although i'm not into SEGA. IDK, it's just fukkin' fun to watch!

  • I usually take my time with the SEGA Genesis Sonic games as well.

How come the music seems a but slow in this video?

  • It's the PAL 50hz version that's why. Personally I like the music a bit slower but if you noticed when Sonic jumped on the power sneaker item box the music sped up to the NTSC 60hz version.

    Thank you for your comment.
