At the end of the note it says CII, which is the roman numeral for 102. (C = 100 I = 1)

I read this in another walkthrough somewhere, I probably would have never figured it out myself. :)

Okay, I'm not an aircraft expert, but..

THAT DOESN'T WORK..

If you remove the thingies stopping the wheels before starting the engine, the aircraft will go away when you do, without time for you to get inside...

You should start it first, then remove it and hop in as fast as possible (you'd be closer than on the back)... If this was a puller, then perhaps, since the plane would be going towards you, but it'd be unsafe (the prop coming at you screaming DIE!)...
