The ONLY reason they even had this season in the first place was as a lead in to the sex tape. Otherwise it would've been weird cuz they like never interact. By establishing their friendship, the sex tape didn't seem so weird.

i've been watching since the first eppisode and it was obvious that they were from the same social circle. even Nathan has said this seaon that they were in the same cliques first. they come from a small town and their families are both rich, it doesn't take a genuis to know they would have meet eachother. Nathan and Brooke haven't had a run on of scenes but let's face it, Nate doesn't really have many scenes with anyone besides Haley/Jamie and sometimes Lucas.

This was definitely one of the low points of the series. The STD was just plain stupid.

they had scenes after those S1 scenes and before this scene that should have clued you in that they were friends and let us see how they related to eachother, like one of my favs from S2 when he talked about Haley and she talked about Lucas and how it wasn't so easy getting back into the ring with the person that knocked you out of it in the first place. plus, i don't think you'd make someone a godparents to your child if you weren't friends with them.

Brooke was Haley's female best friend. I'd definitely make my best friend godmother to my child, even if my husband's relationship with her isn't as great as mine w/ her (chances are they won't).

But even the scene you mentioned was about other people. The scenes they have together this season were also quite random & out of place. Basically, only because James and Sophia are dating they have those scenes. And of course the B//L fans don't mind & try and find logic behind it when there is none.
