hi thanks i love all the music on this the harp player has nailed it totally in my book. can any one enlighten me as to who plays the harp for this audio book? please. eyes on the skies peace.
This voice will always represent Tolkien's world to me. Reminds me of being a kid! Williamson's voice and the evoative dulcimer and harp music. Wonderful :)
Thanks for uploading this! I love this version, even though it is abridged. Thanks for mentioning the reader of this version, Nicol Williamson. I had it on my iPod but lost it when my iPod went wonky. Great to hear it again!!! You made my evening!
@TheWisemonkey8 The original Shannara series by Terry Brooks is superior in my opinion. As are the first few books in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. There's much more exciting and engrossing fantasy literature than Tolkein out there for the truly discerning reader. Don't just be swayed because of the famous brand name folks. ;)
I merely posted a friendly comment to you to which a humorous comment could have been returned in the same well meaning spirit in which it was sent . I wasn't looking to create an 'us' and 'them' dichotomy based on any particular kind of philosophical stance.
''are such idiots''
That contradicts some of your previous discourse.
''take the hint''
This is not a 'hint'. This is blatant and unmasked rudeness.
@greensharpiegirl This is Nicol Williamson reading mah good ladeh :3 But yes, it's abridged unfortunately. The LOTR audio-books read by Rob Inglis are the full versions. Seventeen hours later... ._. Check them out on my other account. The link to the first one is in the video responses here.
@scottygolfs Because the LOTR audio-book is unabridged. Also, looking at my Hobbit & Fellowship books they have roughly the same amount of pages ( 389 & 385 respectively ), though the LOTR has smaller print.
ATTENTION: Greetings peoples ^_^ I've finally finished putting 'LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring' audio-book into video form, & have oh so sloooooowly uploaded the sixteen parts onto Youtube. Yup! sixteen parts. It's on my other account named "Haamurabai". As ye can see here, I've made Part 1 a video response to this video. I don't know if anyone will get through all sixteen parts, but it's an unabridged reading of the book. It's all there! :D Mm hmm, that means Tom Bombadil. So enjoy!
@Aeryn717 Likewise :3 I used to fire up le Ipod for my afternoon royal snooze & have The Hobbit send me off. -_- zzzz... Then I'd wake up two hours later with the cord wrapped around my neck, the ear pieces nowhere to be found, & dribble on my pillow ._.
@Aeryn717 Haha same! I always go to bed listening to this, its so peaceful. And when i wake up i always forget the whole thing and have to listen to it over again :p
@Aeryn717 lol I sure havent, I remember last night tho, im on the part where the like dwarfs get caught by the trolls and like bilbo bagins is hiding in a bush.. thats the last i remember lol
@ThrobnWood hey I also have these audio books and I love them, I wanted to upload them but I didn't know how, but I also have another audio books most of them in french...
@yangerone There's a free program ye can download called "Youtube Downloader". Just Google it my friend, it'll be the first search result. Using the program is pretty straight forward. Let me know if ye have any problems using it though. :3
@yangerone Right click on the video and download it to Real Player (assuming you have Real Player on your computer). Real Player also converts the video to mp3 or other formats.
@yangerone there's an easier way of downloading this file. all you have to do is this: 1. click on the URL of this page, and copy it. 2. in a separate window, go to file2hd.com, and paste the URL in the URL box. 3. click yes on the agreement, select movies beneath the agreement. 4. click on "get files" which is right next to the URL box, and viola. you'll have a choice of standard quality, or high. i say to use a separate window for this cause it makes it easy for getting parts 2 and 3 as well.
@yangerone i really do not know if it IS easier than youtube downloader. that does sound pretty straight forward, but the way i said is very easy. so try both methods.
I'm so glad to find this, I've never read the books (yet) but refused to see the movies so when I eventually read (or listened to lol) the books, my imagination would not be formed from the film. I read the first 5 HP book, then saw films and now for 6 and 7 all I could see were the movie sets, I forget how I used to visualize it myself :(
For some reason I felt like looking for this part in the novel, lol! And I noticed that the scenes (the ones I listened to in this vid) have been shortened; a few details were cut. Only small parts, though.
@IdrilAsling Im pretty sure its english Actor Nicol Williams, best know for Merlin in Excalibur. As for any difference from the book you read or own are due to the well known fact Tolkien was alway rewriting, refining his works. If Im not wrong I think there are 3 versions of The Hobbit. Im pretty sure this is the first version.
the only problem is, it's not exact I have the book yet it's a bit off missing the first couple of pages and the first 2 pages he reads it's different, I'm sure the same story line comes up but it IS different and if you want the full experience I would recommend getting the book.
@BC2Recon This version is abridged, like most audio books I've heard. The LOTR is the most abridged audio book I've heard, as they cut out three entire chapters, the same as the movie. And I've posted here quite a few times already that the only place I know where to get this is from the Ares program.
@ThrobnWood I actually played it, and will again, as I laid down. True, I fell asleep before the end of the first part, but what colorful and vivid pictures were going through my mind as I did. Not out of boredom mind you, but out of exhaustion of the days work. It made, and will make, for a great relaxation. I just pick up where last I remember, but you know the subconscious continues to hear even when the body is asleep. :)
@ThrobnWood Of course on that note, I have read it, and will be listening to it in it's entirety without sleeping..LOL...but oh what a relaxing way to drift off....
I read The Hobbit several years ago, but never got around to reading the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's on my "books I need to read" list though!!!!
Thx for uploading, I was listening to a different version on prettyreckless207's account but then today it got banned for copyrght. Too bad , it was better than this one but this one is still good, off to part II !
Does anybody know where I can buy this audiobook? The only version on Amazon is a newer one which I don't think sounds as good. Yeah, I could listen to it here, but I'd rather put it on my iPod. Is it only available on cassette?
@EliteHalfGeek Well I downloaded this from Ares, along with 'The Vampire Lestat', & 'LOTR'.. Which turned out to have three chapters cut just like the movie! >:T So that's where ye shall find it mah goood lady :> And yes, it does go quite well on le ipod.
You should probably add to the description that this is an abridged version. (I wasn't sure, so I spent time searching the web to confirm that there were parts missing.) Thanks for posting!

I've been looking all over for this reading of The Hobbit for years! I literally listened to this version on book tape until the cassette broke! I love the narrator's voice!
