  • That took 37 seconds to boot from the moment the BIOS output it's garbage onto the screen. Where on earth did you get 90 seconds from?? That's almost 3 times what it actually took! With Windows 7 on that would be even faster, massive kudos for having a 1.6ghz system that quick, I've had P4 systems boot Vista slower than that.

  • hey, you can take a look at your watch and i couldn't while i was on the showfloor ;)

  • Yeah but my main point was that you said this is slow, it's far from it for a 1.6ghz machine. Windows 7 would boot even quicker.

  • hey this video is now 15 months old. the vista version never made it to the market and guess why ;)

  • eh? You're still missing the point, this IS fast, fact. I could tell that just by watching it, I'm guessing you don't use computers all that often then?

  • ok, what do you want me to tell you? that there are still tons of apps loading in the bg while you expert wanna tell me it's not slow? That Vista never got shipped because it's too slow on this device or do you want me to ask what a computer is?Mate, i had more netbooks in my hands than you will ever see and when it's slow for me than it is slow compared to other netbooks!

  • no, its not fast. Fast is Intel Core 2 Duo. Atoms are slow.

    It is ok.

  • whats the stats on it hard dirve? ram? can it read/write cd's/dvd's? any wireless? the touch screen option looks nice and might even be nice to play with, but if the rest of the computer can't keep up then why bother? ya know what i mean?

  • as i mentioned already, they don't build it anymore. Now they have the so called Touchnote and it also comes without any optical drive. Expect our review this week

  • i can find this laptop for sale for around 699 so i was wanting to know what the stats are not if they still make, that information did nothing to help me, i found the information i was looking for you've been least helpful. good day to you =)

  • google is an amazing tool, isn't it? :)

  • it really is

  • I would kill someone for this p.c

  • don't do that. They are not building it anymore!

  • Try again, the computer finished shutting down at about 3:13 and the desktop is shown at 3:50. Not over 90 seconds or 1 minute like you said. Vista isn't the best OS ever, that's for sure, but at least get the facts straight.

  • oh come on! So you can tell just by your feeling how many seconds it took. This video was done on the showfloor and uploaded just in time!

    try again!

  • I'm not going by feeling. I'm just pointing out that you said it took a minute or even 90 seconds to boot up when it didn't. The times I pointed out also included the BIOS loading time which is affected by Vista. You are the one that made a judgment based on 5 minutes of use with a demo unit saying that it's slow, I'm just pointing out data. I'll say it again: Vista isn't the best OS ever, that's for sure, but at least get the facts straight.

  • ok, unfortunately you couldn't get my first reply but i will try again to educate at least a little bit about just in time content producing from a showfloor.

this is a one take quick and dirty hands on and not a review! I don't have a counter so i gave my impression. Every viewer can doublecheck it with the time on the youtube player, so why should i tell bs, when it's obvious that it's under a minute when you check it. Can't believe i am discussing this and wasting lifetime on it :)

  • so basically this for for surfing the web? why not just buy an iphone or an ipod touch?

  • because we are talking about surfing the web and not watching it through a hole :)

  • That's neat , but i see Vista. And it's a total turn off ...

  • vista is awesome

  • Sure for high powered PC , but for a Netbook.. Not really man.

  • umm...i don't really like the keyboard or small trackpad....i guess i'll just have to wait until the Eee Pc T101H is released :(

  • i can only agree with you!

  • can you play games on it?

  • well not the super recent 3d ones but of course

  • Obviously, any manufacturer that opts to load their systems with Vista is grounds for IMMEDIATE removal. Map the drive to your network on another pc or plug in an ext drive and do a fresh install of XP or Win 7 beta and it will fly!

The Kohjinsha SC3 also has been reduced to $530 @ Contics so it's also a contender here, however I doubt it can play any noteworthy games. It's a convertible, and it can play HL2, and it's $699 I mean that's wild. Great buy. The design is a bit generic, though. =(

  • ^^ I was referring to the Gigabyte btw not the SC3 in the last three sentences ^_^

  • What's really nice is it can run HL2 with its integrated graphics (Intel Calistoga 945GSE + ICH7M) fairly smoothly it looks like.

It has 1280x768 res which no other netbook has except for the Fujitsu which is like $2K.

If you want a competitor to this, check the ASUS N10-J or the Raon Everun (which has a touchscreen bot no convertible/tablet style) and the ASUS is awesome but it lacks the convertible/table feature

  • I am going to get one!

  • KANDINSKY STYLE?? XD Thats's Mondriaan smartass;)

  • hahaha! was gonna say exactly the same thing!:) He was tryin to be clever!:)

  • ha that vista boots faster than most vista systems that iv'e used. this guy is just a hater. lol

  • :)

Well my XP is booting in 15 seconds on the Eee PC 901. Why should i use the most overloaded OS, that noone even wants to use on the desktop, on a mobile device?

    Weird stuff

  • yea this was just a bit over 40 sec

  • try slitaz linux on it, it will fly out like a hawk then :P though im not sure if all the drivers will work, there is ndiswrapper though

  • Empty hdd/system register help... xD

He's still a hater though. As far as I know vista boots up fast than XP...

If you disable the "eye-candy" maybe even faster in use...

  • Why does he say that it takes 90 seconds to boot?, if it starts closer to 30 (From 3:15 in the video to almost 4:00), which is quite impressive for ANY Vista system... I would put some light linux distro in it, but come on!

  • I'm thinking of getting one,

    i just need one question.

Can it play youtube videos and can it have apps such as PC games word PowerPoint etc.

  • What, with the Dragonballs from Dragonball Z you can make it look like Dragonballs, pff, idiot, don't look at me you fool, Dragonballs with the that one buddy boy, yes, pff, wu tang clan with their dragonballs.

  • was ist Vista?

    guten morgen!

  • The art on one of the netbooks are not Kadinsky, but Mondrian. Kadinsky style is quit different from Mondrian. Sorry about this digression :-). I would love to have a Scream laptop!

  • SilentbobCH (3 months ago) Show Hide

Listen pal, have you ever seen a Kandinsky? This one refers to Piet Mondrian.

    minipcpro (3 months ago)

you are of course right mate...

sorry i just mixed it up.. too much parties after the show and a lack of sleep ;)

Sorry i just don't know why i mixed up jadinsky with mondrian... show stress i guess :p

  • but it's just the M912V and not the M912X as he says, cuz if it WAS the X-Version it would run XP as OS and not Vista. ;-)

But I also think that XP makes MUCH more sense then Vista on such a system.

  • change the intro, its too long and fugly...nice overview at the M912 !

  • when will this be released in the US

  • I would NEVER buy a monitor, a TV, a notebook or a netbook that isn't widescreen.

Nice try, Gigabyte, but why the hell not make it wide? Narrow screen just sucks in every aspect.

  • Ok.. lets do a little math, shall we? ;-)

the M912 has a screen-resolution of 1280x768 which makes an aspect-ratio of 1,6666666.... and so on.

My primary NORMAL-PC-Screen has a resolution of 1920x1200, which IS wide-screen but only has an aspect-ratio of 1,6 without any more digits.

If we calculate the aspect-ratio of 1080p/i with 1920x1080, we will see that it is 1,77777 and come to the conclusion that 1,66666 is an even WIDER screen-aspect-ratio then 1,6 of the other normal wide-screens. :-)

  • When is this being released in Japan and in Europe?

  • Im sorry... you stated the boot time was slow, i timed it and it took about 30 seconds to come up from when the windows logo first appeared, for a 1.6 GHZ notebook booting vista that is fast, i dont know why 30 seconds feels like 90 to you but that was not the case... for a 600$ swivel touch screen linux compatible subnotebook, this is probably the best deal that will be on the net...

  • Why, someone is quite biased against Vista... 60-90 seconds for a reboot is bad? My XP Notebook (with a clean, pure XP install, no additional software) needs around 2-3 minutes to boot properly.

    With a 3GHz PCU.

    Btw., ever heard of sleepmode?

  • Exactly, I was less than one minute to boot. That's really good. In fact I know of XP PCs taking more than that.

  • GhettoLevis: If ANY computer needs 2-3 minutes to boot a fresh install of XP, then it got loads of hardware failures that it got to deal with during the boot sequence.

My old Celeron 600Mhz with like 256Mb SDRAM takes 30-45 seconds to boot a fresh install of XP. Not kidding, proof can be given if wanted.

  • maxh75: hardware failures, or simply a really slow HD and not enough (slow) RAM. But you're right - it's the hardware that counts.

  • In your case it has to be a very slow harddisk. The regular harddisks inside many of these new mobile computers are just as fast as 1,8" (cheap) SSDs, which is pretty good compared to even a three year old 7200RPM disk.

  • What's the screensize?

  • 8.9

  • whoa tablet functionality, nice but probably pricy...

  • $699

  • if that will translate to about 500 euro, I'm a buyer.

  • hahaha, Vista sucks hard :D. I hope it will come out without windows also...

  • vista is windows foo...u mean windows xp

  • I guess he meant linux.

  • Less HD!

    Much RAM!

    And better keyboard!

    Simply PERFECT!

  • I want I want I want

  • i love your accent!

  • hehe... wenn das mal kein deutscher akzent ist :-)

  • bingo! :p

  • Listen pal, have you ever seen a Kandinsky? This one refers to Piet Mondrian.

  • you are of course right mate...

sorry i just mixed it up.. too much parties after the show and a lack of sleep ;)
