if your not a serious player the house sticks will do just fine. The only reason you need a better pool stick is so that you can make tiny adjustments to your game that depend only on the stick, such as the weight, balance, and the tip. This mostly effects the direction that the ball will travel due to english among other things.
your fundamental approach to the game is great i enjoy your videos.also i wanted to let you know the tone of your voice lends it self well to teaching.
Hey, I'm not trolling. I only play pool when I drink in school, but on a scale of 1-10, how much does the stick make a difference? The bar I drink at with a table's stick fucking such but I make due. Some people spend 100's-1000's on a stick and does it really make that much of a difference?
@rehmsmeyer stick makes a big difference because 1. you get used to the same one whereas in a bar its a different one. 2. tips are usually better from a cue that you spend money on. 3. you dont have to spend 1000's if you are just looking for bar entertainment and a few leagues. Invest in a good cue not expensive. My first cue was 250$ Mcdermott and i still use it sometimes. But it all depends on how advanced your game gets. You can customize your cue by the style you play.
@forcefollow sir, im thinking of buying a cue but the butt duznt matter to me i would like to know your opinion about shafts namely 314,gcore,r360 and ob. yes ive seen reviews of some cues and ive seen the manufacturers description but i will highly appreciate your opinion. thx again, peace.
i would imagine this drill would help with cue ball control better if you were using more center ball and natural angels. just a thought, all the best players say the less english the better and to always try to use natural shape.
Your side spins looks ok, but u need to work on you draw shot. You use too much power, but not enouth of back spin. Try do PAT2 test draw exircise. It really helped me alot. PEACE OUT ;)
For the first object ball on the table he is using bottom left English and the second object ball in each row inside english, for the last ball in each row he is using right English. "Experiment" is the keyword though. The only way you will remember what English to use and how much give/or take.
Can you talk about what kind of english you're using to get the kind of cue ball control you're getting on these shots? I've been trying a similar drill and having some difficulty with it.
that's caused by the deflection. If you hit on the right side of the cueball, the cueball goes a little bit to the left. All you have to do is compensate and practice a lot :)
the previous response is correct, but also something to consider is called sidespin induced throw on the object ball. So basically if you hit the cue with english it will throw the object ball slightly in the direction it is spinning. It can be useful if you can control it.
for example object ball is close to the rail and the cue ball is somewhere in the middle, then I use right bottom english to better position the cue ball for some other shot after striking the object ball, but the object ball diverts...
hey man, usefull vid, but i had a question, everytime i use english and hit a ball, it actually transfers the english to that ball and the ball goes off a different direction rather that go in the hole.

Especially for beginners it is more important to exercise this kind of drills WITHOUT any english!
They have to know the ( is it kiss shot tangent in english)!!
you can get position to every ball without the use of english.
i really prefer this shots because they increase the feeling for speed!

So Marcus,
On third to last shot, why not use a little top and go two rails (maybe 3) like you did on the second to last shot?
xmidway 4 years ago
