yeah...what ever....someone forgot when the E-Class about 10 years ago miserably failed a DOT crash...the passenger compartment was so compromised....the doors came off. LOL....my point....staged crash tests are just that...and having survied a high speed offset head-on....the results were morbid for occupents of both cars. who can forget the rigged cars Volvo crash tested....the results were rigged wth carbodies made with wood in all hollow members.
that test is so rigged....any vehicle hit on the side at realistic speeds and impact points of kinetic energy....the outcome for passengers? major injuries or plain simple....DEATH
@505stealth what are you even talking about? impact point of kinetic energy? that's not even a real scientific phrase and you don't make any sense. Mercedes has an outstanding history of safety and their website has safety page where numerous real-life drivers who have lived after unimaginable crashes.
when these people do tests like this where the car is gonna get hit its not straight on the car is on an angle thats why basically every car out there does very good cuz its not head on on the side of the car
At one time the best performing car in the NHTSA side impact was the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. Now this car's got it creamed by SIX TTI points and FIFTEEN Pelvis G's!
P.S. Mercedes don't need a front airbag to keep out the glass or control the dummy. (Well neither does Mitsubishi, but they learned that after Mercedes)
Impressive. Not so much in design wise. I personally think Mercedes is stepping backward instead of forward. Looks too much like American car, especially inside. Too much plastic like materials.
Great video. Why wouldn't they use another car to impact the side of it, therefore also testing the strength of the front of the other car if it were to hit another in the side?
Its pretty obvious this will get a 5 star if your paying that much for a vehicle, & if the IIHS doesnt give this a "Top saftey pick" i will be soo mad!! Lol
jr protecting system is the best solution for occupants

How would it get that far outside the factory? It should be just a pile of metal by now, since it's so "Mercedes"

This is probably the best looking E-class so far. A safety leader, as always! Mercedes and Volvo - pioneers in car safety.

Does anyone know the advantage of having the car and sled at an angle vs a 90 angle with the sled heading straight on (like how IIHS does)?
erlt2000 1 year ago
@erlt2000 It might be simulating a car crossing over the median on the highway, other than that, I don't know why.

@jrodigan5 by using a sled, your able to get consistent comparable results which allows you to rate it vs how other cars did.

I believe they start at $48,000, and considering what you get, that's not a bad deal for one of the best built luxury cars on the market.
