I assume you mean Battle of Nikolayevka when you refer to The Alpini corps.They were ordered to hold the front at all costs. But they ignored their orders, admitted defeat and retreated. Almost two of their divisions were completely wiped out.

I clearly stated that human instinct doesn't kick in just if something is coming directly for you, it kicks in if something comes in the general direction of you. I assume you mean Battle of Nikolayevka when you refer to The Alpini corps.They were ordered to hold the front at all costs. But they ignored their orders, admitted defeat and retreated. Almost two of their divisions were completely wiped out.
Folgore division fought well and were brave but achieved VERY little except for managing to hold their position in El Alamein after sustaining heavy losses. After that they retreated and not long after completely surrendered!

It wasn't a dive, it wasn't a penalty. It would have gone to extra time and Italy most likely would have won and even if Australia did get through i doubt they could have beaten Ukraine who Italy comfortably defeated 3-0 and even then we all saw what happened to Australia when they played a full strength German side this year. And then you would have had to beat France. Yep Australia deserve to have won the world cup because you nearly didn't lose to a 10 man Italy.

Anyways, good to see the current Italy team rebuild after a horrible 2010. Many new younger players have been called up and Italy is re-loading very nicely. Some nice talent coming through the pipeline. We will see how Australia rebuild. They are one of the older national teams in the world. Italy should be a force by 2014. I doubt Australia will.

Anything you do to slow your opponent's progress is a penalty if you are not playing the ball. If you play the ball then anything which can be considered as "collateral damage" is acceptable. This penalty is well deserved because LN was not playing the ball, he rotated in the way, and made contact with his elbow and hand.

When a defender slides in, and completes his tackle, THEN the opposition trips over the defender, it is considered that the attacker fell over the defender, and therefore not the defenders fault. A slide tackle is also considered complete when the defender comes to a stop.

Another indication of this is that his left foot and leg, which were on the ground after the tackle, are lifted in the air for the turn. Why? As FG pivots on the way to the gound his left foot remains behind LN's back. So where would you say the center of rotation is? It is certainly not around the belly button which would be the case in a dive. It is rather below the knee around the foot which is being held back. Note that as soon as the foot is released it moves foreward over LN. (not before)

Sometimes I wonder if you even understand what I tell you. If you dive over something and your shins touch the object in front of you then as you move forward you foot which is hanging downward will inevitably touch that thing as well. Is this difficult for you? The video shows that the leg and foot flew above LN. There was no contact with the shin. Stop inventing things.

@Pepsimaximo1 I have been very consistent in my arguments. LN turned 90 degrees to get in FG's way. LN stuck his elbow out and made contact with FG's knee. LN placed his hand on FG's foot and tripped him. These 3 things can be verified on the video of the game. You on the other hand change your arguments as you go. You say absurd things which have no basis in fact. You're a Twilight Zone character. Anytime now you are going to vanish and leave me wondering if you ever existed.

@taccognaman yeah, watching the world cup soccer for the first time, this year i saw that around 95% of penalties were given due to diving (all soccer players).
When they dive on the ground they scream in pain and hold their leg, then as soon as the ref's whistle goes off, they jump up all fine and dandy .. strange .. all soccer players in the world cup must have some kind of superhuman healing power or something..
