I wish i didnt get angry, I scare myself sometimes and i feel out of control, I wud never be violent but i just shout sometimes i wish i was a calm cucumber
Some people do not respond to human intelligence or reason. To say anger of no use is just false and pandering to the masses to promote/ market Buddhism. If you can harness the energy created by anger and redirect it in an efficient manner it can be extremely useful and productive. For this to work though you must already value reason and communication in general. Anger is a part of the human experience and to try and discount it rather then to control and exploit it/give it its do is unjust.
I agree with what he says here but I think he left something out. He acknowledges that anger has the benefit of providing energy (though at an unacceptable cost). There ought to be an alternative source of energy identified then. I believe the answer is passion. Knowing peace can stop the anger like a wall, but knowing passion from what you love can replace the power rather than just stop it. ☮ :-) ♥
Congratulations, the War is Over !! The Next President of the United States of America is Muhammed Hansen, and he Lives on the front lawn of the White House in a Tent, and he is a Muslim, And a Buddhist :)
@89Czeko I mean that we should let all our feelings out and we choose the way to express them. You choose how to deal with anger after all. Some people choose to rant. There is no general answer for all people. When you're angry, you are blinded and can't think objectively so you become impatient. But anger and joy are temporary feelings.
Here's something interesting: "Destroy the ability to investigate the reality." Isn't that insanity? It seems like ignorance. Anger is a natural feeling. Tell it to the animals. I'm outta here.
Angry people must calm the ancient animal response of uncontrolled aggression, and care for their physical health. Once the inner noise and pain recede somewhat, one must focus on what must be changed, either in the outer world or in oneself, to alleviate the pain that aroused the anger. I do not always succeed at this, but I have done it. I think that is one way the Western world can interpret His Holiness's words here.
So basically what he's saying is, that in order to not feel angry, we should just stop being angry? Are you kidding me? This video is the only thing that got me angry at the moment! Seriously, the uploader should change the title to "what is anger?".
PS: for the record, I enjoyed what he had to say but it had absolutely nothing to do with anger management...
@PARIAH805 What he says (I believe) is acknowledge what anger does and distance yourself from it. Basically realize that when you are angry you cannot make rational choices so when you are angry acknowledge it and try and distance yourself from your anger. He is not saying "don't be angry". What he is saying is that acknowledging you are angry and realizing that your judgement is compromised, stepping back from the moment and trying to regain objectivity is helpful.
@PARIAH805 No. What he's saying is to remind yourself that anger destroys inner peace, and keeps you from viewing an angering situation objectively. Once those two things are remembered then logic would dictate any rational human being would cease being angry. Makes sense to me
If you can't control anger then the anger will take strength from you and drain energy from you that can be used for more positive purposes! Excellent video! Thank You Holiness!
@ANGER7violetflame Agreed! Anger is no different than a flame, it is an autonomous entity that breathes on it's own! I think anger is a bit easier to control than the flame!
HH The Dalai Lama is always so beautiful in his speech. His teachings are also so practical and applicable to real life. not just life in the monastery but in the world field of living beings everywhere.
@Kutoomi What does he own? Next to nothing. He works incredibly hard, especially for the Tibetan people but also for oppressed and exploited people everywhere. He speaks out for the poor, unlike many religious leaders who like to tell the rich and powerful they deserve everything they have while the poor should pull themselves up by the bootstraps.
@billk61 Yes, he is a living example of Buddha. We consider him a living god, but of course he does not think of himself as anything special. We are so lucky to have him in our lifetime!
@Kutoomi He lives in the real world, we choose to live in this "Society" we call the real world and do things the way we do, so we can drive hummers, and have the 50inch plasma. But i bet you an enlightened being such as himself can do a better job in our lives, than we would do in his.
Society is part of the real world, whats up with all of these pesudointellectual people thinking there's more to life and reality than we see? We developed to become social creatures, this is a scientific fact and us forming a society has no impact on whether its real or not. We also advance because we're in a society, if you wanna live in the wild and meditate thats fine, but meditation doesnt make cures for disease or innovative technology that improves the world (sometimes).
@AfterLifeGuru I'm not saying we shouldn't live in society, the Human being is a social animal by nature, what i'm saying is that what we call "The Real World" nowadays has nothing to do with how we have to live, yes there is innovations but they are bringing more problems than they fix, we need to move forward as a society without loosing our Values. And just because you have no idea on whats Real or not, doesnt mean other people can't have an opinion. thanks , peace
@blaugranelona lol China has some hard-on about Tibet being "truly" Chinese proerty, and hate the dalai Lama for his work to secure tibetan freedom. They literally call him a terrorist. You'd think he of all people could rise above petty nationalism, though...
@blaugranelona Why? how does telling people they should not be angry help people?? The last thing someone needs when they are experiencing anger is to be told it's innapropriate and unnaceptable. That is after all why we are all in such a mess of unresolved anger. Unresolved anger gives us many problems and diseases.
anger is the result of something, it is not a thing to get away from as if you can run away from being human, it’s the reaction people can have or do that is bad when people get angry, but God gave you that reaction just like pain when your burned yourself or love when your mom hugs you, don’t get angry when I say this but if you read Gods word in the Bible you will know what right and wrong is.
@IG88Aiscool if I, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what the Bible(Gods only revelation)says to you, he is to be accursed, God can not change, man has always tried to change God but only to find himself undone with a man made religion and without a Savior in the end.
@IG88Aiscool I was raised a Mormon left to follow Buddha then became a member in a name it and claim it slain in the spirit give me money church but I was still dead inside, but in 1999 I gave up religion and came to a relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, if you truly want to know the difference have the courage research for yourself. Eternity is a long time to be sincerely wrong about something. I will be praying for you my friend.
Your Holiness- thank you very much for your speach- it calmed my heart. Sometimes in it there is too much anger and even hatred... that I amaze myself with it. Most of the people around me can't feel it, but it bothers me since I'm scared from myself that I may become violent. I'm scared that I may hurt people with my words and even doings.

@WeAreONEbigFamily Yeah... only ignorant people will be deceived by that "New Age religion."
