Just did a search for Beau Dollar and the Coins, don't know why. Just remembering Mike Raven, I guess, one of the great proselytizers of RnB in the UK. Amazed at the erudite comments here. That's what Youtube should be about not the usual hyperbole.
Thanks for the memories. Beau (Bill) was my sister's brother-in-law. I saw Beau & The Coins in a battle of the bands at a huge amusement park in Cincy in about 1965. They did a nice version of "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" that day. They didn't win -- Teddy and the Bandits, who had a minor hit that summer ("It's a Bit of All Right") won --but Beau was at his soulful best and put on a great show.
This is great. I have the 45 of this as well. The "B" side has the best version of "Any Day Now" that I've ever heard. Someone should digitize it and post it. Mine is too scratchy to do anything with.
This is the song that started my radio career. I was 15 and listening to KUXL in Minneapolis to Admiral Richard E and called him up and said please play that again. We became friends and i started on the air a few months after that as Lord Jeffrey. I'm an entertainer today performing all over the world. Jeff Diamond. Thanks for posting.
Man thanks for posting this. I have this on a 45, with Any Day Now on the flip side. Also a side note to this. I graduated from Moeller in 69, and we had the Dapps at our prom. Great memories.
Beau Dollar & the Coins was a mixture of three groups that played at the Inner Circle in Cinnati. James Brown recorded in Cincinnati and he always stopped in and these guys would back him up. Beau was a drummer, but occasionaly fronted the Dapps. Thos were great times
Yer right pitifulslim1. The guitarist was "Fat Eddie" Setzer. That band did "Can't Stand It" for James Brown in 1967. They made history. So did King Curtis and Cornell Dupree. Cornell Dupree is the real architect of this song.
I knew a guitar player in this group, way back then, Chuck Sullivan. He did the lead on this song when it was recorded by Beau Dollar and the Coins, guessing, early to mid 60's. He was really something. Had an offer to go to New York to see King Curtis and play for him. He turned it down. Went in to iron working. Retired now, not sure where.
The guitarist on this song is Cicinnati's own Chuck Sullivan, (what a great stylist) and is still performing in the Cincinnati area.

William Bowman jr. aka Beau Dollar left us on the 22nd of Feb. 2011 at the age of 69.
