It is fueled by fusion that is made possible by quantum theory, or the idea that very rarely a hydrogen atom will fuse with another hydrogen atom. On earth, we have tried this to no avail, however hot fusion has been shown to work (unfortunately it is inefficient as of right now)

@enuuts correction: the sun is not plasma. The sun does not emit plasma. The only thing the sun is would be the rest of your comment - nuclear fusion. The light is a result of the fusion, just not plasma.

another cool way to make plasma is to take a grape, cut it in half and put it in the microwave under a bowl...because its such a concentrated amount of liquid, and microwaves work off of heating up water particles, it creates a tiny, i mean tiny bit of plasma in the center of the grape.
