sure, when you have the $ and don't have to worry about next month's rent or how to feed your kids, then you want the best care you can get and don't care how much it costs. a few years ago I was out of a job, no insurance and living off my savings when I sprained my ankle. the only reason I went to the ER is I thought there was a broken bone - they charged me $1000 to sit in a room for an hour, wrap it up, and gave me nothing for the pain (which is a different story all together). awful.
Who the hell can afford $50,000 for a hip replacement anyway? The entire US health care system is designed so that you HAVE to get highly expensive insurance or take out a loan. It's not designed for out of pocket payments AT ALL.

sure, when you have the $ and don't have to worry about next month's rent or how to feed your kids, then you want the best care you can get and don't care how much it costs. a few years ago I was out of a job, no insurance and living off my savings when I sprained my ankle. the only reason I went to the ER is I thought there was a broken bone - they charged me $1000 to sit in a room for an hour, wrap it up, and gave me nothing for the pain (which is a different story all together). awful.

If you look at the demographics among all the top universities, Indians comprise 5-15% in medical schools. Health care in India (private sector) is exceptional and comparable to the one here
